I don't think Stocker has been amazing, his kicking has been iffy. I think he just needs some continuity. Had his injury, played one game then missed two weeks with the shoulder, then had the bye not long after.

I hope they put Stocker back into the midfield in the 2s. That’s why SOS drafted him and I reckon his best spot
So you don't want to see Stocker play.
He would be sitting behind Dow and Setterfield and soon Cunningham and possibly Hayes and Cotrell who are looking to get into the midfield

I want players played in their right spots like they are doing with Dow. If he is good enough (I believe he is) he will play. I really believe he could be a star in the midfield. I don't believe he is a defender and at the moment he can't get a game there even with Williams missing

Nothing like depth and competition for spots to make a side better

Happy with Boyd. I rate the youngster. Provides genuine zip and is a true competitor.

I like Stocker too but Boyd deserves the go and he has lots of runs on the board in 2022. Kid can play. Stands out in rhe VFL like dogs balls.

I agree. Like to see him get a good run at it

don't quite get it though given we have just lost to Collingwood - who aren't that great.
We better be on our game!

That's how it works.
"We're much better, we'll smash them"

If we lose?
"These players are @#$%&! useless, this club will never change"
It's one extreme or the other.

I sat in front of a supporter last week who worked through those extremes multiple times over and over for 4 quarters. Drove me @#$%&! nuts…

Surprised Newnes didnt get dropped after his shocker last week. In the first half he turned over the ball nearly every time he got it.

As much as I'd love to see us totally smash them, I don't expect us to do that tonight.
As others have said, they'll* see this as their* grand final and will come out breathing fire.
All their club greats have been ripping into them the past 2 weeks. Just read Terry Daniher gate crashed a team meeting the other day to give them a rev up.
Having said, they are 2-9 for a reason and we are 8-3 for a reason.
We are a better team with a lot more on the line.
It wont be easy and will likely be close for most of the match, but I fully expect us to pull away and win anywhere between 3 and 6 goals.
Despite our injuries, losing is unacceptable. We have enough on field talent to get the job done.

So they are treating this like it is there GrandFinal...................Faaark i find that weird . A midseason game and they are near the bottom and treating it like a GF . How faaarking delusional are they ? for us its no more than hopefully a stepping stone to the GF . Nah , faaark them and there carry on , just get on with business Blues . I"m totally sick of those drop punt Essendon* media lackey's . Put 'em in there place Blues .

As it has been a fortnight maybe they've already played the GF out in their heads

Voss' reaction when asked about Dow's game wasn't a great endorsement. He may well find himself on the trade table. Voss was one of the great midfielders. He probably backs himself to know midfield talent.

To be fair when we were crap we always treated the Essendon** game like a Grand Final. I remember one of our 2 wins in 2018 was against this mob. We clearly celebrated like we won the flag too as we lost by over 100 points the next week.

It’s a big test for us as like last against Collingwood , on paper, we should win.

It’s nice to have a midfield that should easily out muscle one of the most over rated midfields in the comp.

And with all the hype and the expected “line in the sand” talk, it will be a good test of our ability to stand up to some heat.

I’m confident we can.

I think the side listed is better balanced than in the past weeks. Harry returning and the addition of Martin makes our forward line an enormous challenge for any team. Win the midfield and give the forwards enough supply, we win. The addition of Boyd (I admit I did not see it coming), adds pace and run from defence.

I'm calling BS, he had more than one turnover in the first qtr. Maybe i am counting the fumbles that turned the ball over the statisticians dont, or running past the ball etc.

I thought Newnes has played every game he's played this year really well. Interesting how we all see things differently.

Only one that counts is Voss.

Voss selected Newnes the minute he was available, and slotted him straight into the team.
It was publicly stated he was managed due to illness, but some posters thought he deserved to be dropped, and there was no way he would be selected against the Pies.

I can see exactly why Newnes is selected ahead of many other faves: Tough, endurance, skills, and he holds jis ground...and when he tackles....Dow, Cottrell, LOB, Fogarty, Setterfield, Carroll have nothing on him.

Voss picks players on form who are performing the role VOSS wants them to play. Simple, and so it should be even if this or next year are Newnes last.
