I was nervous about Walsh coming back too soon.

I was nervous about Cripps after his hamstring.

I don't think this is a coaching group that panics.

So I'm good with it.

if we lose to this stain of a club this weekend, it will be heralded as the start of a fresh beginning at bummer land. if we win, they will be oh, so brave.

i am sick with worry about losing this game. flower the rest of the season, just win this one

Just saw that. WOW big call. All the best to him. He has the talent just needs to stay on the ground

x 2. i dont mind if he has a poor game, i just hope he gets through it. if he gets injured (god forbid) can we send him back on just before the sub gets activated to he can punch stringer into the next century for us?

Wow, I’m very nervous about them rushing Marchbank in, he hasn’t been able to complete a full game yet due to being so fragile.

I guess this also means Durdin will play VFL for sure.

no reason they cant both play? too tall, or too inexperienced?

Anyone expecting this to be an easy win is kidding themselves IMO.
I thought Essendon* were very good in their last game against Port (away). Inaccuracy in the first quarter (0.6) probably cost them the game in the end. They led most of the key stats and they'll get some key players back this week.
A 1 point win will do me nicely.

this..

also think if he is going to re-injury himself, he is as likely to do it in the reserves as he is in the seniors ... so we lose nothing by him playing ...

i hope for the young man he gets through, not expecting miracles, but just like charlie ... slowly build up his confidence and fitness ... if we can add him to our playing stocks when others are coming back into the side, we will only be better for him in the side.

Agree to a point.

They were very competitive in their last game and you'd reckon the frustration among their players will be reaching a tipping point and they'll either totally implode or get a watershed win soon. Also this is a celebration week for the club. And key players are coming back. So it is arguably a recipe for success for them.

But our players just need to focus on bringing our best selves to the game. If we do that we should win.

It'll be another stressful few hours though. Not sure my ticker can handle much more of this.

I think in regards to CM this is a test it and see year for Voss. He is learning about the players. He will give Caleb confidence but if he breaks down again I reckon Voss will within himself and within the inner circle make some sort of decisions longer term. At the end of the day players are like stock. They either deliver a return long term or not.

A bit harsh PC. They are people first. And nowadays thank goodness they are seen in the industry as more than just cattle. But your point of Caleb being fit to play a role for the team is valid.

I was more wondering which other defender they would drop apart from Weitering?

Docherty, Saad, Plowman, Newman, Young and Stocker haven’t been playing badly. Maybe Newman would be the unlucky one?

Caleb just needs to get through the game and play his role adequately. Most players coming back from an ACL take half a season or more to get back to their best. If he can get through this week and the season, his output will really lift next season.
But I don’t think it’s fair to put him in a ‘brittle’ category. He had a freak neck injury that no amount of conditioning could have prevented and he suffered an ACL which many players have done incl several twice. He has not had recurring soft tissue injuries which might indicate a vulnerability with his body or preparation.

So maybe…

In: Kennedy, Martin, Durdin, Marchbank

Out: Weitering, Newness, Motlop, Newman

Kemp for medi sub instead of Carroll.

Adds size and talent overall.

Our current 22 are part of a team that is minus our number 1 ruck, best tall defender in the game, our best back up key defender, Coleman Medallist, a general defender who is rated as elite and McGovern who was our best intercept marking defender. Plus a number of others who still aren't certainties to come in (Including Matt Kennedy).
They can bring their "best selves" but the reality is, quite a number who run out Friday night are not in our best 22.

That's why any win will do me until some of our injured key players return.

Hmmm….

I’ll be extremely surprised if the Sam Durdin
plays Friday…especially now that Caleb is
back…!

it’s not Cranbourne V Tooradin…surely he
has to learn some plays…?

i could be wrong…but just can’t see it…!

kindest regards regards

Rumors that McKay will play Friday night. Marchbank back. Two names I wouldn't have considered a few days ago.
Interested to see side named tomorrow night

You are both right IMO...however, I'm leaning more toward PC on this...even with our list of injuries, my view is that if the players hunt, are resilient and play with a team first intensity and mindset, we will win (THIS IS THE GREAT UNKNOWN)
Some of those words above may seem like 'motherhood' comments but I will give one example...no doubt Ess will come out firing etc. There may be bleak patches during the game even. I am strongly of the opinion that if we don't allow our mindset/roles/objectives/KPIs etc to be compromised and stick it out (contest intensity, no lazy, self-preservatiion football, gut gut gut running), the 22 we put out will beat the 22 they put out

Voss is preaching resilience...that's what wins GFs (or gets you to them)

We've won our games this year largely due to midfield/clearance dominance. We are missing Pitto, but our midfield remains intact (assuming Kennedy) gets up. We should smash them there as we've smashed most other teams. Gives us more than enough opportunity to kick a winning score and deny them enough of it to expose our backline.
Agree it wont be a walk in the park. They'll see us as vulnerable and will set themselves for this one, but we should still win.

We all shat ourselves and thought oh no we're gonna lose vs giants because of Leon Cameron's farewell and we won that relatively comfortably.

We, as a collective (players, fans, everyone involved with the club) need to stop focusing on reasons we might lose and stop this defeatist bs.
