I don’t recall the last time our team physically monstered and into an opponent like I saw last night, surely not this century? It was great to see!

Plowman played with dare and dash, maybe he’s been told to reset his mindset, haven’t seen him play like that for years.

Carroll is a very smart user if the ball, so many smart hand passes that started chains of plays by releasing his teammates, and the commentators never mentioned or acknowledged his touches, it was bizarre!

On Harry’s disallowed mark, I thought the second one was because Cripps kick was touched in the centre?

At the end I thought we lairised too much in the last 0-15 minutes, I hope vossy knocks that out of them.

Im glad a couple of u have made mention of Eleni. She had a horrific umpiring game. Just horrendous. Im all for equal opportunity and all that, but if ur going to give a woman a go at umpiring at the top level, then FFS, make sure they have earnt it and actually know how to umpire!

Let’s leave gender out of it - she’s just not a very good umpire. There’s bad male umpires too.

Agreed. It certainly wasn't my intention to make it a "gender" thing. However, the criticism I made - Ill stand by it, regardless of gender. Yes, there are "male" umpires who are bad as well and I will (and have) called them out for it too...

It is a "gender thing" because like most organisations, the AFL are on a crusade of inclusion and affirmative action. Therefore opportunities are being offered to readdress the imbalance that has existed due to previous male bias. But the initiative should be to increase the pool. It's a great idea to create a pathway into umpiring for everyone. Especially any who are disadvantaged or have been subjected to obstructions into previously male dominated domains.

But when it comes to the elite level (AFL games), pick the best umpires from the pool. Don't sacrifice standards. The IMHO, the AFL is doing that to create role models at the expense of elite performance.
I admire Eleni but at the moment, she is a VFL or NAB league umpire.

But you’re assuming she only gets a game because she’s a woman.

Looks like we're both assuming.

Jack Martin's game was enormous tonight and the other thing I love about Kennedy is his hardness - he sets the standard for body on line. I also TDK just gave everything tonight so well done (cos I was nervous about him as our only ruck). Love our midfield and also I thought with Williams not in our backline actually was better functioning. But then it is Nth Melbourne.

Did anyone else see the behind the play hit on Newnes? Pretty crude on JSOS at one point also.

We did well to hold our composure.

I can't really point at any one player tonight and say they had a bad game. Well done lads! I hope it continues.

All three umpires were poor and obviously she is easier to notice when she makes a mistake: which is often. But that incident was ridiculous that no one stopped the play.
I watched her for a while after that - and she got hit pretty hard - and no one, including any other umpire, trainer or player went to her to check she was ok, even during the next reset after a goal.
Hard not to interpret that as her being held in low regard, including by her peers.
She is most likely rattled by the whole experience which is unlikely to improve her decision making.
I'm not sure she can ever become a really good umpire but it would be great if she did.

Great post " BigG ". An absolute disgrace that not one single sole came to her aid . Whether you love her or hate her i was totally disgusted that a women ( yes , i'm old school where you treat a lady with respect ) was left to fend for herself with no concern whatsoever by anyone . Nah , might be an old fashioned bloke but i cannot cop that .

Yep both were good.
I am starting to think they should just play LOB every week now and reassess at the end of the year.

I thought he was good. I think his disposal makes him a better option than Setterfield.

As a counter argument, I’d remind you that we only play the worst team in the league once.

We played Jack Martin, Silvagni, Carroll and Newnes last night

We are still 2 behind the 2018 St Kilda effort of Jack Steven, Steele, Sinclair, Billings, Lonie and Newnes

But we are also still 15 premierships ahead of them so I guess not so fussed.

I just watched the replay and the hit on JSOS was pretty crude. It was unnecessary and could have injured him.
I noticed very little was made of it by the commentators though.

True.

They were barracking and coaching from the commentators box. So much so that at times they didn't mention the Carlton disposals, connection that led to a goal.

Frustrated coaches? Probably just bias.

Sad to see Gerard stoop so low. He was the best once upon a time.

I would have thought that the game should have been halted at that point - and trainers nominated from the home side (us) go out to check her out.

And it should have been a ball up where the incident happened

Instead North got a goal out of it

Don’t the umpires have their own trainers and medical support?

I rarely worry about the commentators. My default position is that they'll offer very little, but last night was different. Gerard was a disgrace. Very similar to lingy when we played Sydney last year.

Footy emotions are funny.

Last week, when LOB and Plow weren't playing I was cussing some of the effort, or lack of most of the bottom 8, and that was a loss against clearly the No.2 in the AFL. We shake the tree and Plow and LOB come in and we win, against the bottom team, but a 50 point team. We played 4 quarters (sort of). Everything is going well again.

LOB's best game in Navy Blue last night; topped his game vs Saints last year.
I said last week imo Plowman is better that Parks, and Newman and maybe Kemp as the 3rd tall/ intercept depending on what you're trying to cover. Now, we are mising Gov and Marchy. So we live with what we've got. Depth.

Plowman was Aldi different last night. His dash and dare were back. He was a tall wingman as a kid, along with other roles being 190cm+.

Then the effort of Kennedy in the clearances. He was great with Cripps and Walsh in there.

I had him in my best 22 preseason, and I had a go at him a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully BV mentioned his thigh bandages tell a story, coz he was played lame. He's a beauty.

TDK good on you son. Keep it up.

Jack is heart and soul.

BOG Crippa, next The Jeanie Saad, and doc, you legend.

Still thinking about my bottom 6 players. Good overall effort.
