Pros:

1st half.
The big boys. Charlie and Harry were terrific. Weiters best game for the year. SOJ was influential. Young impressed me.
Centre clearances. Cripps and Hewett again.
Docherty.
Durdin.
Liked Setterfield's 1st half.

Cons:

Faded again.
Butchered the ball going forward after quarter time.
Too many broken tackles.
There's a lot of rebound against us, when we're playing Harry, Charlie, TDK and SOJ in the same forwardline. I like that we're getting games into TDK, but reckon we would have been far better balanced with Martin down there instead.

Hawks we’re dropping numbers back from the midfield to fill in the gaps. Resulted in so many clangers by our players.

Tackling was something I noticed too. So many broken tackles, but even worse we were out of the contest as we went to ground for many of them.

We've won 5/12 quarters…

R1 (Richmond) — 25pt win
❌ Q1 -20pts
✅ Q2 +28
❌ Q3 -14
✅ Q4 +40

R2 (Bulldogs) — 12pt win
✅ Q1 +7
✅ Q2 +24
❌ Q3 -13
❌ Q4 -6

R3 (Hawthorn) — 1pt win
✅ Q1 +34
❌ Q2 -4
❌ Q3 -13
❌ Q4 -16

We’re capable of piling on big scores in a quarter, but not yet able to show solid consistency over a full game.

Ladder looks good, but let’s not get carried away just yet.

The return of the premiership quarter!

I think the real problem after the first quarter is that our tall forwards didn’t at least halve the contests, the small had no opportunities because the ball just didn’t come to ground.

First quarter - domination

From there we folded, got challenged, held on and won by a point. Ill take it. PRICELESS.

I'll disagree somewhat with Weiters. On a number of occasions he had an opportunity to take the front spot, mark and create. He chose to punch, which typically went to a hawks player and resulted in momentum swinging goals.

Our small forwards, were largely ineffective. Did not see them front and center in the forward line anywhere near enough. Not sure where they were?

Zac Williams has been basically ordinary, horrible. He didn't change today. So far a BUST recruit IMO.

Lewis Young - a very good debut. We could have something with him.

Durdin, I think has something. Good skills and awareness. Needs more game time IMO.

JSOS does so much which he does not get enough credit for. Both him and the Doc were awesome.

Another good game from Kennedy. What a turnaround. More to come with him Im sure.

Again I'll take the win noting there is ALOT of improvement in this team to come.

Agree, tdk in particular was outmarked from the front position. Must bring it to ground as a minimum

Williams was pretty good today I thought. Dropped a couple of marks but aggressively moved the ball out of defence.

In the second half we fell back into old habits. We forgot about run, forward handballs and resorted to bombing the ball haphazardly into the forward line. I don't know whether it was panic or pressure but there was no composure. Hawks looked good because of this. We made them look much better than what they are. Coaches need to deal with this immediately. The bombing was so bad it felt like we were back in the Madhouse days.

Are you sure about that? I thought we wiped the floor with most teams. I do remember two car crash losses in a row to Sydney and st kilda I think it was, but I’m pretty sure we bossed most games

I'm still in Cloud Blue.
So glad to win.

Thank you Jack Silvagni...eye test told me and many others you were massive today

Docherty cool under pressure...must have got 30 possessions.

Weitering was colossal.

3 experienced heads Weiters Doch and Williams carried that backling

Hewett...tough as a cats head.

Kennedy again a great game.

We won...that's all that matters right this minute

Martin should have done more  should've played.

Missed the miraculous play of Saad.

When we are hot we are on fire.

Bring on the Suns, we love fire.

3/4 time we're 3 goals up. I was thinking the way this is going we could be in trouble here, maybe even get done. When Hawthorn hit the front I thought, right what have you got ?
I reckon last years side after being overtaken would have lost that game by 4 goals.
This bunch hung in, fought back, found a way. There's the difference right there.

Credit to them.

Well we absolutely flogged Hawthorn that year. The one point win over West Coast though has always stuck with me.

Yeah me too. I thought he was much better. Coming off a low base but.

After the fact I think a tough win like that will be better for the team than had they cruised to a 5 goal victory.
EAD Hawthorn.

Agree. Forget what he cost. He's best 22.

Thought he fumbled a bit, and some of his kickes were too rushed, but thankfully he played in defence along with Docherty and Weitering back there. Plowman, Boyd and Young didn't provide any drive from defense imo, whereas the 3 mainstays did.

Close games against Essendon* (8) & Geelong (3)… the Richmond game was within a kick at 3/4 time as well.

A wins a win is a win. And we WON!. Too much negativity here which has me thinking expectations here are being set too high. The coaching group has only been together 6 months. We are progressing nicely and even my whipping boy LOB has improved - although I still shake my head a lot. Not sure why people are getting stuck into Fisher, does his part; he was the one who got the ball to Jack for the winning goal. We certainly missed Saads run from defence and struggled to negate the extra man in defence that Hawthorn used after quarter time, hence their ability to run the ball out of defence. I thought our midfield was a bit off during the game.
