Was that the game when Miller destroyed us? Need to do something about him
Does Gorringe get another arse-tatt if it happens again?

The Suns tend to start most seasons ok, they beat the Eagles in round 1 and then lost to the Demons by 2 goals.

Need to control Miller.

Agree. He put his running skills to good use and presented when we were out on our feet. Doubt he'll be dropped but I did find myself groaning (probably unfairly) when he got the ball a lot...

His tackling went backwards today, but he is playing his role well.

Eagles aren’t worth celebrating a win against at present.

Saad, Dow, Stocker, Motlop & Fogarty are ready enough.

Kemp won’t be far away. Obviously still getting his head around the tweener role Vossy is after. Big ask for a young player to be a little bit of everything.

Carlton's issues in the past have been between the ears, regardless of personnel
Today's lacklustre scare will have everyone on edge all week with the coaches ramming down their throats all the areas for improvement
No cockiness, no lairising, no drinking their own bathwater on the training track...fix up all the mistakes from today with a different mindset and the 4 points next week are ours for the taking

GWS put a hard tag on Miller - he only had 17 disposals for the game. Went a long way to setting up the win.

Not sure it would be a good idea to go head to head with him. Maybe send Hewett to him.

My bottom 6 vs Hawks in order were:

Boyd, Plowman, TDK, Fisher, Durdin, LOB.

Players who should come into team next week:

IN: Saad and Martin.
OUT: Boyd, Fisher (sub)

If Oscar is fit, he takes Young's role and Young pushes out Plowman.

IN: McDonald
OUT: Plowman

Dow knocking on door but midfield group keeping him out.
He's getting 30 possessions every week playing as the No.1 inside mid.
Dow is not a wingman. He's an inside mid.
If he could read the play well he'd also be an outside mid.

4-0 is what we are after going up there. Period. 4 points.

Going from past weeks I do not think there will be much change. Saad for Boyd and if Pittonet misses then Martin comes in to enable JSOS to be second ruck. This assumes there are no other forced changes.

Jack Martin is too good not to be playing. While Owies has done nothing wrong I’d be swapping them for next week.

Young stays, thought he looked good first up.

Martin should have played one or two quarters in the vfl, he’s only played two to three minutes of footy in the three weeks before the GC match.

Need to go a bit smaller and have more pressure up forward especially in Queensland where the forecast is for it to be wet

B: Docherty Young McDonald/Plowman
HB: Williams Weitering Saad
C: Setterfield Cripps O'Brien
HF: Martin Curnow Fisher
F: Silvagni McKay Durdin
Foll: TDK or Pittonet Hewett Walsh
Int: Cerra Kennedy Owies Newman (Dow)

Tempting to bring in Motlop and Stocker will need another week or so

Forwards have to be able to hunt & from what I’ve seen, Owies is pretty limited in that regard.
Forwards also have to kill. Fisher’s first option is a sideways kick. His second is a backwards handball.

Martin, Fogarty, Motlop & Durdin should be the first choice group of smalls. Martin isn’t exactly small at 186, but I’m talking that high half forward role that has the extra task of allowing the wings creep in to pressure the contest. They have to be skilful & damaging on the ball - someone that defenders will have to keep an arm across.

Fogarty is the most vulnerable of the group, being just a wee bit undersized for the high half forward role, but Cuningham, Philp & Honey are out of the picture so far. Fogarty is at least fit & brings footy smarts to the job.

Owies was better than Fisher from the eye test.

Stats agree too.

Just sayin'. I'm not too precious on either.

Martin is too good to be left out!

Looks like it's going to be very wet. Forecast is showing 10-20mm Friday and Saturday and 20-40mm on gameday.

We looked to tall up forward yesterday and Hawthorn waltzed it out way too easily. Given this and the forecast I reckon we ditch a ruckman and go with JSOS as the relief ruck, or even Young if their tall forwards aren't worrying us. TDK would be the one to go, but Pittonet may be out with the back injury.

We've got enough tall targets up forward with Charlie, Harry, JSOS, and Martin is very strong overhead for his height.

So I'd go with:
Martin for TDK/Pitto
Saad for Boyd
Motlop for Owies
Dow for O'Brien.

I know O'Brien is outside and Dow is inside but I'd be keen to give Dow a go in the role and see how he goes. He will offer more strength in the contest and more speed which we lack. He can also rotate on ball and give Cerra and Walsh spells on the wing

What we want is for Port to beat Melbourne in Adelaide, Geelong to beat Brisbane in Geelong then we beat the GC to move to the top of the ladder!

Yeah and the downward spiral began when we were beaten up and humiliated by a juiced-up bunch of druggies that we had absolutely pantsed in an Elimination Final only 3 games prior.

Don't underestimate the psychological damage that did to the team and the coaching staff. We were full of confidence until that point and then lost the plot.....
