Melbourne's weather for Sunday could also have a bearing on final selection

Melbourne area: Cloudy. High (80%) chance of showers (3 - 6 mm), most likely in the morning and afternoon. Winds southeasterly 15 to 25 km/h turning southerly during the morning.

In today's Herald Sun there's an article titled " Hawks shun Cripps obsession".

Hawks coach highlights "...but you look at a guy like Kennedy, who goes completely under the radar, and he's been super for (Carlton) since the end of last year and the start of this year...then Cerra comes back in this week, and they get back Walsh".

"Its not as if they're this one big monster player of a team. They've got a multi talented team, and they've got A graders on every line"

With Cripps form at present, injury free, I say tag Cripps at your peril Hawks. He will still break tackles and or get his arms free to give off the handball to a free player.

It all starts with Pittonet and TDK in the ruck. They have to give us the advantage.

cheers Jez. Saves me the trouble, but I can't help myself with synoptic maps.

3-6mm, isn't much by east coast standards, but the game is outdoors on the G and the southerly turning 25 kms could mean marking may be difficult.

Durdin, Owies, Fisher to run amok.

Docherty, Saad, Williams to mop up and run ball out.

Midfielders Cripps, Walsh, Hewett, Cerra, Kennedy to link between the arcs and kick a few themselves.

Harry and Charlie will still kick a goal or two each.

Our backline led by Weitering, accompanied by Docherty, Saad and Williams is as good starting 4 as anyone's,

Carlton by 40 points

Bring in Young to replace OMac.
Swing SOS back to fill Gov’s role (he can read the play really well).
Smaller, intensely tackling forward line but with TDK slipping in intermittently.
Martin, Cerra, Young in for Gov, OMac & Fogarty.
Plowman or Parks as the sub.

Yeah I’ve noticed JSOS slipping into the backline more than a few times over the last few weeks so you could be right on this one.

I posted during the off season before we saw McGovern play a game in the backline that Marchbank is my No 1 contender for the 3rd tall post in defense. But given he wont be available, I stated I'd have Jack ahead of Plowman for the 3rd tall role, and Kemp! even against the resting ruckman. This was after Jones left a hole for Oscar or Young to fill.

Still a possibility given we have TDK to play as the 3rd tall in the forwardline if conditions suit.

The only thing we have to do in our forward line is stop Sicily from marking the ball in our foward line ... the rest will look after itself.

I think Hawks are too tall in their backline. Our smalls know how and do crash into the bodies of taller opponents to halve the contest.

I haven't been this cocky since Judd years...before drugged up Effendope players took out 4 of our players in the first quarter of that round 3 or 4 game back in the day.

Garnteed loss on the weekend. No doubt.

Why?

Because McGovern isn't playing?

Mate, he's the 5th Beatle. We are not a one man band, and he doesn't play drums, lead guitar, bass or rhythm. He's a role player.

Ball isn't going to be in a defense that much if you have faith in our midfield group. If not, I see where you're coming from.

Bring on the shitty weather, I say. If not for negating Hawthorn's height advantage, then at least so you Melburnians can get a taste of Sydney 2022. :D

I wish we were only getting 3-6mm.

I'm on the coast, and it might be sunny for 5 minutes, then a deluge follows for 15 mins, followed by cloud and wind ... I guess that's abit like Melbourne.

Would losing be a fitting send off for Murph?

Ha ha

Or perhaps flip it around….couldn’t winning be an appropriate send off

Thanks for retiring Murph

I take it that you're no longer in Bondi, Bondi?
I think I saw you say that you've been to the matches and going this week?

Anyway... we are weaker than we might like in defence but our mids have been particularly strong so far. If they continue this, then the Hawks should be under immense pressure when they go forward which should mitigate our defensive weakness. Having said that, as others have said, with Weitering and Doc running the backline and Saad and Williams there too, it is not exactly a rubbish defensive unit.

If we are fair dinkum, this should be a solid win for us. If we can beat the Bulldogs without Cerra, Martin and our Coach, we should be ok without OMac and Gov.

I'm confident Young will be an improvement over Oscar. Parkes is probably the closest like-for-like to Gov but we'll see who they go with.

Everyone selected for Sunday's game, has shown good form, including Young and Plowman in the Ressies, as have our bottom 6 players: LOB, Newman, Setterfield, Owies, Fisher and Fogarty. You knoiw what they say about the bottom 6? Hence our 2 good wins.

Still in Bondi, but prefer staying in Maroubra. :sly:
I couldn't get to games last coupla covid years for obvious reasons.
But now we have vaccines and wings...and good reason to watch Carlton other than blind loyalty...enjoy the ride.

Obvious team correctly picked for the opposition.
No excuses.
