I think Martin plays for sure - he's got that little bit of see you next tuesday that Voss will love.

A little birdie told him Sam Walsh is back at FULL Training tomorrow.

Just over 4 weeks ago Sam Walsh said he was aiming to be ready for round 1.

If Sam Walsh and Docherty can rise from the dead we are going to give the Tigers a Samashing!!!

I have full confidence in our medical staff that they'll make the right call. Gasp

I'm feeling bullish about this match and the whole season. I don't know if i'm an optimistic fan or a seasoned watcher of the game. Either way I can't get over my nerves and excitement. In the end it's about wins and losses, but all I want is a team that is competive week in week out. If we do this we'll win enough matches to play finals, which is all one can ask considering our recent history. It takes two teams to make a great contest and it starts with the Tigers on Thursday night. Go Blues!

Agree 79.
If we play like we have in the preseason games - effort, desire, run and pressure - we will win more than we lose this year.
Can't wait.

It starts at the contest, and that's expected every quarter of every week. Non negotiable.

If Carlton can bring that mantra every minute....we will make finals.

Our contested beasts in Cripps and Kennedy are finally being played correctly and more importantly allowed to play their way. Having these 2 in there showed during the PS games how important it is for us. I think Voss identified or even knew our issues before he even started and went about fixing it with the inside beasts and the outside runners setting up and then executing correctly. I've loved what I've see with our setups and clearances so far. Far cry from previous years.

Ruck: Pittonet

Fwd/Mid: Martin, Fogarty, Motlop, Ed Curnow
Fwd: McKay, Charlie Curnow, Silvagni, Durdin

Ed might be a touch underdone, but he is a seasoned professional that can go at the push of a button. Ideal for the sub role.

O’Brien if Walsh doesn’t come up.

Blues by 1,000,000. Teague to get sacked from the Sunday juniors as well.

Motlop to play if Durdin doesn't come up.
I don't really rate Newman, but they talk about his leadership in the backline.
Docherty and Walsh to come into the side within two rounds, but... I can see Docherty possibly being named the sub.
This is pretty much identical to the team I'd go with. The only change I'd make is to switch Docherty into the 22 and Kemp to sub.

Carlton’s multi-pronged attack of athletic tall targets gives them a rare weapon and point of difference on the competition which will form part of the Blues’ regaining respect this year, says captain Paddy Cripps.

The return of Charlie Curnow and the emerging talent of young high-flyer Tom De Koning joining Coleman medallist Harry McKay gives the Blues a threatening forward half.

Curnow is one of the most athletic and exciting forwards in the competition but has been wracked by knee injuries, limiting him to just 15 games in the past three years. He didn’t play at all in 2020 but came back to play the last four games of last year and has had a strong summer.

“It’s a luxury and we just want to keep them out there,” Cripps said, adding the forward mix was potent not only for tall players but the pressure and fast small forwards.

“We have a lot of different weapons up there, them two (McKay and Curnow) and the way Tom De Koning played the other night, he brought it to ground, with his presence the way he was jumping - if the roof was shut he would have hit it.

“Charlie is a good story. He has had a tough couple of years, but one thing we have seen from him over pre-season is he hasn’t lost any athletic ability. It’s always something he has to manage through his career, but I am excited to see him have a really good year.

“You talk about the whole forward mix. I think the whole centre-forward mix we have a lot of different dynamics. You throw Zachy Fischer, Jackie Martin in there, Matty Owies and Corey Durdin at their feet with their pressure. We feel like we have a lot of different weapons and it is up to us mids to get it down there and let them go to work.”

I don't think Tom DeKoning is out of the picture for round 1.

Some think he's underdone and wont be selected.

His minor hicup during the preseason was removing a small blood clot from his shoulder.
Up to that point he had done a huge preseason, and played 4 quarters in last week's game vs Dees and 4 quarters the previous week in the ressies.
He looked alright to me last week jumping like Bosustow in the first and right through till the last when he marked that beauty.

DeKoning is the future, and from what Cripps suggests, he's the present.

How can we leave this bloke out from our forwardline and ruck?

I'm sure the AFL community will see us differently by midway this season, let alone after round 1

I'd play him. I like the combination of Pittonet/TDK as they are so different. TDK is also dangerous up forward and creates a contest. Great now we have Durdin Fisher Owies Martin and maybe Motlop up there around the packs. Also, takes pressure of McKay & Charlie as key forwards. I see a lot of positives in playing him plus he will get better and better and become a top end player if he can stay fit and get games

Best forward line we have had in years

Brad Lloyd: "Sam Walsh won't play Round 1. Our timeline hasn't changed with him in regards to missing the first month of the season. He's rehabbing really well."

Lloyd on Sam Docherty's chances of playing in Round 1: "He's a chance, for sure. He'll be in the selection mix. He was thrilled and the club was thrilled with his VFL game last week. He's pretty much ready to go."

Happy about both of those comments. I want Walsh back ASAP but only when he absolutely ready.
Docherty sounds ready. Last year, he seemed to have lost his touch and fumbled a fair bit. Hopefully he has fixed that!

Docherty played really well in the first half of round 1 last year, then got his shoulder smashed. He shouldn't have played on, but did, all strapped up, and that didn't work out well for him or his reputation.

I don't think its fair to pigeon hole Docherty as "unreliable" because of the year he had in covid affected 2021 whilst he obviously played with busted shoulders and testicular cancer too.

He has credits in the bank. All Australian before his first ACL, and judging him on his performance thus far since praccy games started, including intraclub, he hasn't put a foot wrong. 39 possessions last week in a weak Reserves team. I can't believe some supporters have written him off let alone have the likes of Williamson, Plowman, Newnes and Newman ahead of him in their best 22.

Having 3 important Trades in Docherty Williams and Saad responsible for ground ball in the backline, with Weitering Oscar and Gov/Kemp controlling the skies....we are blessed, and imo formidable, even with Jones leaving a hole. Team Defence and midfield support will make us one of the best defensive teams in the comp:

Saints kicked 8 goals for the match.
Demons had only kicked 4 goals to half time when we had 80% of our best team on the field.

I'm torn. On the one hand to be confident of a round 1 win is an indicator that you are clearly not a Carlton supporter. How could anyone have any real confidence after the last 20 years.
On the other hand ill placed hope is actually the tell tale sign of a true blue.
You are trying to mess with my mind...
