And first up, we have the HS previewing our season.
Forecast is that we win 4 of our first 6 matches, including beating Richmond in Round 1 and Port Adelaide in Round 5 at the MCG (which, I guess is plausible given Voss' inside knowledge).
Gee, if we beat the Tigers in Round 1, Voss the Boss will get an immediate contract extension and elevation into the CFC Hall of Fame!

FWIW, they list our best 22 as:
B: Stocker, Weitering, Newman
HB: Saad, McGovern, Williams
C: Hewett, Sam Walsh, Dow
HF: J.Martin, C. Curnow, Fisher
F: Silvagni, McKay, E. Curnow
Foll: Pittonet Cripps Cerra
INT: De Koning, Young, Setterfield, Newnes
SUB: Kemp
EMG: Plowman, J. Motlop, Owies, Honey
And they note that Docherty comes back in when fit.

Not terrible although I'd include:
Plowman ahead of Young, Kennedy for Setterfield (until Setterfield lifts a long way), and Kemp for Newnes.
And I'd hope that Marchbank, Motlop and Cunningham push their way into the team (as well as Docherty) as the year progresses.
If McGovern can't deliver, then I'd try Silvagni back there, or bring in Young at that point.

Ideally Ed Curnow, Setterfield and Newnes won't be in the team.

Its not terrible, imo its plausible.

I can't help feel more than others that Young is further ahead in his development than some believe. I look back at his game vs Charlie and his last few games at the Doggies. Its not his fault (or Wallis' ) Beveridge over looked him for a shorter more mobile backline. Plowmani at 192 vs Young at 202 would play different roles: Young to take on a KPD or resting ruckman playing 3rd tall imo.

I love that Kemp is in the conversation. I realise Marchbank would just about be an auto selection if fit and in form.

Would prefer Honey and Motlop to Setterfield and Newnes, but realise the latter 2 have better engines.

All depends on Vossy's game plan and our ability to win the midfield battle.

I'm getting excited. Boys back on the track next week.

Fingers crossed Stocker recovers quickly and gets fit for round 1

Do we really know what our game plan will look like?
I think this is going to be very interesting to see.
I know he will demand hardness at the contest.
And presumably, he will aim to tighten up our defence but that is pretty high level.

Does anyone know more about the likely game style?
I'm pretty excited. But then, I'm always pretty excitable at this time of the year - I do look forward to time, hopefully soon, where the off-season is not the most exciting time for Carlton fans!

Hopefully Hansen has the majority of input. Voss strikes me as a good leader/manager but I'm not convinced of his strategic smarts or overall smarts to be honest. If he understands where his strengths and weaknesses lie and allows others to top up the areas of deficiency, it should be a good set up. If ego gets in the way as it often does in AFL football, I wont be so confident.

I'm hoping that would be the main skill he has acquired since his first senior coaching role - how to delegate effectively and wisely.
And how to motivate this generation of players!

So far, I'm liking the haircuts - I know it should have no impact but I just feel that too many of our players have been more concerned about their hair than their form!

This is where I sit with it too.

I’m a bit meh about Voss to be honest, but it could work if the coaching TEAM functions properly.

If the whole club functions as a team we will be even better. I believe we are finally heading in the right direction. Fingers crossed.

Having a double headed monster, which is mobile moreso than gorilla, will be a strength at Vossy's disposal.

Its the method of forward entry which interests me most.

Its going to be hard to overlook the 195cm Kemp.
He's looking fit, mobile and confident....and versatile.

Midfield ready? Depends on how he fairs against the current lot of super fit mids on our list this year.

Hmmm - IIRC you are the poster that is first into the worry room?
Does this mean we have hope or is it part of the annual January - March cycle?

Of course we have a chance. One of 18 sides is going to win the flag.

Expections are high this year as they have been the last couple of years

The issues for me are
The defence
Jones loss is huge. Young is unknown. Mc Govern has shown stuff all. If he plays defence he will need to be more disciplined.

Too many flashy players
We have so many players who can look a million dollars but when it comes to the tough stuff go missing. You can’t get away with that over 22 rounds let alone finals pressure

Lack of on field leadership
Docherty clearly has more important issues to deal with. I don’t rate Cripps as a leader. Too much like one of the boys. Weitering is a better choice with Walsh underneath him

Michael Voss
Carlton as always went for the big name over the small name.
Hopefully Voss learnt a lot under Hinkley.
