Whatley’s turnaround in his attitude to Carlton in one week is Brian Cook - the obsequious prick doesn’t want to cut off any relationship that may cost him a story down the track.

My advice, Des, is to sit back and enjoy the off-season while Voss and Co get to work.
If you - like me - find it difficult to switch off, focus on the trading/drafting and hearing about how we are 'flying' on the training track and never been fitter/stronger etc...
Then, get back into it for Round 1 next year and, as we start to win more than we lose, I think your dislike of Voss will start to subside...
Hang in there

Thanks. I’ll try my best!

I wasnt sure about him either, but he starts off having denied the immortal enemies Collingwood 1 and Essendon** 2 flags as a player (obviously as part of a team).

Then you watch videos like this, and you go, he had some serious talent, and was hard as nails.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bizIJRKG_-U

Unfortunately that talent won't help him in the coaches box.

Nice to read all the positivity and dare I say it, almost 'love' in the air for Voss.

When's Walshy back from the Gulag to give us his views? :yikes: :yikes:

Or has he been traded for a late 5th round pick and joined the 'Punt Road End'? :sly: :sly:

Regards Cazzesman

Walshy the poster has joined Richmond and changed his name to TL( Teague lover )

I like this appointment. Tough bastard is Voss but according to Sayers he also has high EQ . That's a strong skillset in modern footy as he will be able to drive strong standards but also he will be able to hug the boys that need a hug.
Hopefully we can get some strong assistants around him.

It's actually an inspiring choice...why?

Because the easy solution would've been to look at his past and get all gun shy

The difficult solution is to look deeply at the man, his experiences, his growth, beliefs, values, ideas, success environment he came from, new learnings etc etc. and take the chance that his coaching is ready to be taken to a new level

And as somebody else pointed out which I also mentioned earlier in the week...he comes with Parko and Diesel's blessing...That's enough for me

Watch our 2022!!!!

Why? I asked

"Because only once you've figured out why your first attempt didn't work, have you grasped what is required. The next attempt should be bang on point. v2.0 is always bette than v1.0 (or even 1.1 service pack 12)".

What followed was hard yards of reflection, dissection and a second attempt that ultimately got the desired outcome.

He's done the reflection and the dissection at a club with a fantastic culture and has learned from a master in Ken Hinkley. He can only be better for it.

Wishing Vossy all the best in his role as head coach v2.0.

Amazing post. Thanks for sharing robbie.

The same applies to what Sayers has just done too.

Notice how important having the Review during the year is now. Now we have an outcome: v2.0...or reset!

I'm glad Sayers had the balls to go through with it rather than die wondering, and trying to make changes in November, December...ie too late for 2022.

I'm pretty sure players are going to be far more intimidated getting the 'Glare' from Vossy, more than they ever did from Teaguey.

Imagine fronting up to explain your late night drinking during rehab to Voss, Scarlett and Ayres.

Frightening.

Is Ayres coming on board Cazz?
I reckon he will be brilliant...have banged on about it for weeks with my mates

No idea but I did hear a rumour that he was at Icon Park a few weeks back once the selection process was in full swing. Personally I just don’t see how you go wrong with Ayres on board.

I heard him interviewed on SEN recently and he rocked. How he managed to keep Port Melbourne so, so competitive over such a long period, as a stand alone club speaks volumes for his standing as Coach and mentor of young men.

I talk about Neil Balme all the time and Ayres is that same worldly, level head in a crisis character. Within football circles you never hear a bad word about him. He is spoken about glowingly by important people.

I'd be rapt if he came on board. I'm a big rap for him and Andy Collins, and the Hawks took Andy already.

This would be an awesome get. Great sounding board for Voss, and a wealth of knowledge

How is it inspiring outside of the novelty of having a new coach. You can have all that but means nothing if you struggle in the coaches box. We had to rummage through the $2 bin to find the last experienced coach. His winning record is worse than Teague's and he set Brisbane back years. He may be better this time round but why risk it? I would've taken the easy solution and looked for an upgrade, which is what you do if you change coach. It's not about the easy solution it's about picking the right person. You just don't take that risk.

He may well be better and the Board may be lauded for their foresight but if this one fails the Board will struggle to survive. Only hindsight will tell us that but we don't have that.

You asked so I gave my reason...lol.

Anyway, all aboard the Vossy bus. Can only support. Have to get behind him.

He would make an OUTSTANDING Football Mgr...apart from his glowing AFL CV, I'm guessing, as a VFL coach, he needed to undertake so many other roles that can't be afforded due to budgetary constraints

Also as a senior assistant...the guy lives and breathes football and also comes from a culture of success

FFS Blues, get GARY AYRES'S on the line and give him a job now

I'm sure with everything going on in the world today, you'll muster the strength, stoicism, grit and resilience required to 'support', despite the trauma of having Voss appointed

I don't know what Michael Voss will be like as OUR coach. I do know he is one of the best AFL players in history. He was hard, never seemed to compromise, did not shirk a contest, was physical, but maybe most importantly was a team player that never accepted anything below best effort, nor did he give it.

Now IF he can translate all of that into his coaching, get our team on the page, add a consistent reliable game plan which instills clear plans for both our defense and attack, can identify AND implement each player into their CORRECT and most damaging position and give them some continuity in that role/position, instill a never say die attitude on the field AND provide some decent winning ways, this guy maybe the best thing that has happened to our club!

No pressure. Its a lot to ask, but sorry I've heard the "I will do this and bring this" etc mantra for decades, and the most recent celebration of premiership success was over 20 years ago and you can bet 80K members plus countless supporters are crying out for on field success again. I know I am.

Good luck Michael Voss!

Also, it would be refreshing to see the majority of Carlton supporters get around this guy and give him a chance. 3 years is not long. Lets try not to hang him after a handful of games....

Finally, bring us Lappin and Scarlett as Assistant coaches please!

As a sidelight , how composed and assured did Brian Cook look . His calmness was in a funny way frightening . This is the real deal . It aint a false dawn .

Just finished listening to Voss in some of the interviews today … one thing I’m certain of is if you do not go in when it’s your turn chase tackle smother … you will not get a game under this man …
