Vanilla football will never win flags.

Win plenty of games but never flags

Port play a hard pressing game so should beat Bulldogs.

Going to be a good GF if it ends up Melbourne v Port. I had tipped Port before tonight but tonight is causing a severe re-think.

Be tough to pick come down to injuries and who misses out as structures go out of the window.

Steven May subbed off with a hammy won't help the Dees.

Seems I hit a nerve. Haha

TBH cant travel 5km and cant have people over and cant go out - besides its Friday night.

Yourself? Or are you too inept to discuss stuff even in a banter manner so you attack the man instead?

Go do somersaults.

He has 15 days to recover. Thanks to McGowan there is no footy next week.

The HUN is predicting a Cook/Clarkson combo. I didn't read the article.

No. I have come here about 4 times today. Spent a total of about 5 mins here. Everytime I look at TC I just see Walsh Walsh Walsh. Hence I ask if you have a life. Clearly you don't.

I am just grateful to learn about the professionalism in 4th division German soccer. Makes me feel my century in the YDCA semi-finals actually DID mean something.

It’s not Walsh’s fault that this place resembles the archetypal Western Ghost town with the cliche tumbleweeds rolling down the street.

I find it quite amusing to follow the poll at the top of this thread - it seems to follow the latest predictions rather than who people think should be coach.

Basically after Clarkson and Lyon were gone, it was trending towards Scott but now that Pyke is heading betting, it has shifted towards him. Off a low base, I realise. but it’s been like this ever since the poll went up. Whoever the media think is favourite, we seem to mirror in the poll.

Perhaps we should have two polls: Who we think SHOULD be coach. And who we think WILL be coach.
(Which is kind of how we run the pre-match thread re player selection… )

If the Pyke rumours are true it also means the leak of report findings from late July look reasonably close:

“…the current coach contenders are: Lyon - though there is serious concern over how he left Freo. Big concerns about what this does for Carlton Respects. Very unlikely he gets the job Leppitsch - the Board did not like his public comments when we stuffed up by making two offers. Also not good at Lions. Very unlikely. Pyke - very well liked by the review team and Horse at Swans has said he is the best assistant he has ever had. This will mean Eddie does not assistant coach next year as there is no love lost there but this is not seen as a bad thing as players have had too much sway Scott - the most likely pick. AFL wants us to take him. Solid guy. Did well with North. Query whether he can bring the gun assistants that Lyon could - that is the only knock.”

Geelong got smacked the way we got beaten heavily this year.

Couldn't get their hands on the ball at the coalface.

There's a lesson in that. You need a top ruck, and you need a midfield that bats deep because even towards the end with their best out of the middle the likes of Bradshaw, viney and Langdon were getting the job done with Jackson rucking even when gain, Oliver and petracca were on the bench.

Oh, and 2 years probably isn't enough time to judge a coach. We probably would have sacked goodwin anticipating us to be better because they hit the draft hard back in 2009 taking trengrove and Scully, and had taken watts at pick 1 a year earlier (gawn was acquired in this draft too). Jesse hogan not long after. Theyve had plenty of talent come and go at Melbourne. 2014 to 2016 roos did their "66 game rebuild" and then goodwin started coaching in 2017. Made finals in 2018, made some big moves going after lever and may who tool a couple of years to get right, missed finals a year later and now look at them. Premiers elect, and im not sure the bulldogs could best them if they make it. Power might, but you can't argue that Melbourne haven't been the best side all season. Apparently the only side to have been in the top 4 all year. Thats impressive in itself.

Oh, guess who lost to Collingwood... yep, Melbourne. Just goes to show some of the stuff that fans throw out there is emotive and not truly worth looking st as yardsticks. The afl is a very even competition particularly in the sides that finish between 6 and 12 and the sides that made up the 8 had a glorious run with injuries this season whilst the ones that fell out had players out of form, injured etc.

Anyway let's hope we can stop this endless sacking cycle and start backing coaches in, because that's the only way we are going to stop the players from having too much influence at the club which will set us up in the longer term.
