Next year is the year to be saving bucks for Walshy.

Perhaps we use some of the Levi/ Murph savings to front load a few next year.

I doubt we'd get Luke Parker, but if we did and got Cerra too, there goes $1.3 of that $1.6...a saving of $300 into the Walsh fund.

It was always going to get tight.

I guess Newnes would be another $450+

From The Age.....

Salary cap space after 2021

HAVES (with room): Essendon*, Hawthorn, North Melbourne, Adelaide, Port Adelaide.

HAVE-NOTS: Richmond, West Coast, Collingwood, Melbourne, Fremantle, Geelong, Gold Coast, Greater Western Sydney.

SOME WRIGGLE ROOM: Carlton, Western Bulldogs, Brisbane Lions.

UNCLEAR: St Kilda, Sydney

Player payments, including ASAs, are $13,165,950 in 2021, a cut of 9 per cent due to the pandemic. Player payments for 2022 are slated to be $14,769,322 if there are no cuts. All subject to the current contracts and without factoring in recruiting at season’s end or re-negotiations.

Carlton have some space, having banked money under the rules (which allow clubs to spend more than the salary cap if they underspend in the two previous seasons), but have to re-sign skipper Patrick Cripps and emerging forward Harry McKay and allow some room for Sam Walsh post-2022.

Regards Cazzesman

Easy done.
If you can get Parker for $650x4 you'd take it every day of the week, but surely that's optimistic?
If it's ballpark-true that his management is asking $700x4 to stay a Swan, I'm thinking we'd have to offer a chunk more than that to get him.

Well if the Swans balk at that then count me in. He is just what we need to get some onfield leadership and the standards raised. Ave 27.5 Poss over 22 games this year. One of the ultimate professionals.

From footywire stats......

● Ranked 7th in Total Contested Possessions
● Ranked 8th in Total Clearances
● Ranked 8th in Total Stoppage Clearances

He is super resilient, rarely missing through injury.

Throw him into the midfield with Cerra and things are looking up.

If we take the media reports on face value, both Martin and McGovern were brought into the club on grossly inflated deals AND we still underspent.

I suppose it’s possible, since they’re unlikely to get a job elsewhere, that we could extend their term for a lower average? Martin would be less likely to cop that, given he took both the rough end of the pineapple and the shit end of the stick when the cap was slashed.

It’s also possible that Walsh would accept a lower deal if there is immediate success in the new coach’s term - say, something around $800k for a period that runs up to RFA. The leverage here would be the ‘sweetener’ in the deal.

In that scenario, I think we could squeeze a guy like Parker in… however, it’s also possible that a rejuvenated Cripps is the Parker that we already have.

If I were walsh I'd be looking seriously at leaving Carlton.

The bloke has been busting a nut since he walked in and is about to have his 3rd senior coach in just his 4th season.

Our club appears a very toxic organization from the outside looking in.

Someone like Riccardi from GWS should be relatively cheap
Might allow us to move McGovern back & at very least would add depth to our forever injured key forwards

True, he is cheap but probably because he's below average for kicks, handballs, tackles, disposals, marks.
Not really ideal

So, a more durable version of McGovern?

Yes.

Moneyball player imo.

Only 21yo and has been mixing it with senior bodies at times with aplomb

He’s our best player and you are encouraging him to leave. #$&@ I’m so glad you are Carlton supporter.

Gotta admire your honesty. Let’s hope he doesn’t read TC.

But why stop with Walsh. Why not encourage Weits and McKay to leave? In for a penny in for pound my dear old mum says. :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

Worth noting that the stats engine that every club plugs into has him grouped as a midfielder/forward, which is the wrong index imo.

Not encouraging simply looking at the state of play.

We've won more spoons than any other club the last 20 years, and we don't seem to be the sort of place that can work it all out.

Particularly being a Geelong boy. They have won 3 flags since he was born and have played finals pretty much every year.

Perhaps he wants to play for Carlton and signed a contract extension for the same reason you support the club......he has made a connection.

Obviously Eddie isn’t listening to the ‘majority’ of the social media supporters. Sorry Eddie we need another rebuild.

If we can’t get Parker , then we should be going after Cam Guthrie , UFA and wants 4 years ,
Plus hewett from the swans and Cerra !!

I think the greatest hurdle to overcome with guys like Parker & Guthrie is that they have sacrificed their earnings over the years to bring blue-chip players into their clubs.

I don’t think we would get away with similar money plus one year.

I suspect both clubs will give them the longer term deals that they’re after, probably back-ended, given the salaries that are due to come off their books.
