Heaps of revisionist waffle in here but I'd be happy with the club going to the draft with pick 5 or 6 & not overpay for Cerra - both from a salary cap and draft capital perspective

Also happy to get Cerra at the right price but I would be keen to stay in this years first round. Perhaps we can split picks?

FWIW Not sure who in this thread said Cerra was overrated but turn it up - the kid is silk.

Midfield should be the priority along with another quality lockdown defender and some ruck depth.

Yes but our time for gambling is over.

We have to get these next few years right - Winning a flag.

Take Cerra, just do it. The lad might not be diesel but we would not have won ‘95 without him. We need to cash in now!

Let's not forget we'll be picking from a draft that's had 2 full seasons of extremely limited football.
As we've seen many times, it's extremely risky to pick players based on their Under 16 form. (SPS?)

He might not be Diesel in '95, but he might be Camporeale.

The only thing ‘under 16’ about Samo’s pre-draft form was his age. Trading him out before applying the blow torch would be a mistake.

Lyon has been scathing towards him in his media role, yet he’s the one fringe player he would want to keep the most. He’s a bellwether.

if we recruit cerra instead of going to the draft , it would be like the past land big NAME,havent we learned from martin ,gov, williams and judd . Saints and hawks gave away picks for name players how did that work out for those clubs. Only reason why hawks are going well lately is because all there LATE PICKS are stepping up, worpel p51.kossie.p71 foe example

So what do you suggest the club to do?

imo need to bolster the midfeld with quality now that Weits - Harry etc are entering their mid 20s. Going to draft and waiting for them to develop could be too late.

This is probably one draft I wouldnt mind us not being in. The covid restrictions has to have meant scouting talent has been minimal, so it could be a crap shoot to find a player in there.

We have a good amount of young players on the list, so topping up this year wouldn't offend me greatly.

Getting it wrong and over paying for B graders will offend me.

Im looking at our list, and I think we should be trading for players this year.

There's plenty of youth, and I was looking at our list, with Murphy Eddie and Levi going we get significantly younger on average age.

Ed being the next old man.

i fully agree

we need a kpd. if jones or weiters go down, there is no one to replace them

Agree with that we need to find a Sam Collins type , hopefully talia could be worth a shot if he salary isn’t to steep

A mature age ruck/forward who can replace Levi as a back up option to Pittonet while TDK is developing. I don’t imagine Mirkov will be ready for a year or two. We might be looking at Oscar McDonald for that role, but I wonder if there are any free agents or state league players who fit the bill? Would Josh Jenkins be worth considering for a one year deal (rookie list?). Having him in the VFL team should make our younger players stand a little taller and he would be handy insurance in case Pittonet loses form/fitness. And I wonder how Kreuzer’s body is feeling after a year off?

In the national draft, our priorities should be a midfielder with acceleration who kicks the ball well and a developing key defender.
