Between 2000 and 2004 RL spent time as the Carlton VFL Coach. Mrs Caz and I were well and truly up to our neck in the Blues back then and rarely missed an AFL or VFL game. We were real diehards in them there days.

At every VFL game we sat directly infront of the VFL Coaches box with a single pane of glass separating us from the wisdom of RL. Around 2002 Waity was a gangly yearling who could do the brilliant and the unthinkable, all within 3 steps.

Hearing RL give him a spray over the ph was some of the funniest stuff I have ever heard.

It seemed that about every 5th ph call to the bench was..........'Get Waity on the phone." When a forlorn Waity trudged off and finally picked up the phone I would put my bino's on him across the ground. Watching his reaction to RL's words behind me was absolute Gold. To Waity's credit he sucked it up and got on with it each and every time.

If I had a $1 for every time RL grabbed up the phone to the Runner and would start with.......TELL WAITY!!!!!!!

We all thought Pagan would give the club a foot up the backside but alas we were stone motherless broke and broken as a Club.

Ratts was going to be the Savior but he did not have the background experience he now has. Ratts had no 'Off' button and I think he often put people on edge with his 'passion and one track mind.' He could never relax into it.

Malthouse................was Malthouse..................I could understand players not wanting to play for him. Not much gray with Mick. You either Love him or Hate him. He just wasn't Carlton enough when things went wrong. Zero support in the background when the deals are done.

Bolts got smashed by over expectation from those in the back room. They just didn't have the patience to wait. I think deep, deep down when it really counted, the players found it hard to relate to him as he had not played at the level. Just my take and those of a few others I know.

Ross Lyon might just be the Battle Hardened Warrior we need. Nothing he hasn't seen 100 times and he can read the writing on the wall at light speed. SOS is his bestie so he will know the politics (admittedly from a bias perspective). He just needs to surround himself with like minded souls. I know nothing about Dean Soloman but from what I read he might be a good fit under Ross somewhere.

If RL got the gig I wouldn't mind seeing if Brendan Goddard has any interest in being involved somewhere. His dislike for losing is legendary and his ability to call out slackers is on the same scale.

Clarkson might be a better choice but RL will be fun, fun, fun. Interesting times ahead for the pea hearts if he gets the gig.

Regards Cazzesman

Hi Cazz yes those were the days and always thought that RL was the making of Waitey albeit provided the tough love
Was at training one day not sure whether anyone else was there where RL told waitey that he was like a wild f……. Brumby and he wanted more draught horse than brumby :smoking:
To his credit Waitey was a good player and had a long career but was always flighty from the start to finish of his career I think he was less flighty than he might have been because of RL
RL was very keen to have him be able to play forward and back and to use his athleticism as a weapon

Who’s dipping into their pockets to pay the tax once Teague et al are paid out & Ross comes on board?

Ok...left field lightbulb moment

Has anybody heard from Asp since Walsh took centre stage here on TC?

Asp loathes Dow...maybe Dow is the captain of that 'pea hearted' midfield in Walsh's eyes

Walsh also displays alot of Asp-ness in his posts

As for Ross coming back to the Blues - the guy is broken goods.... what new and fresh is he going to bring to the table other than getting sacked two years later.

We are deep into St Kilda territory and nosediving fast

I'd be happy with Ross Lyon as coach. To me he generally gets the most out of the list at his disposal. Poor goalkicking cost him the 2009 flag with the Saints and possibly again with Freo in 2013.
If anyone can stop these 5+ goal defensive lapses it is Lyon.

He will definitely stop 5+ goal lapses no doubt about it. But are we going to score any goals?

His gameplan isnt much different to Bolton's. I'm not zealot about it... but Ross is the past need to look to the future and stick to it.

Well Voss and Ross sure sound like a cute couple.

18 men behind the ball and hope for the best yay.

You're right. We should put 18 men forward of the ball and hope for the best.

That's much better. Toot @#$%&! toot.

At least making an attempt to win a game not attempt not to lose.

All top teams in Europe play attractive attacking football. Geelong won't win the flag because they're too vanilla... Demons much better chance as they move the ball and attack.

Geelong is not going to win the flag on the big dance against teams with fresh ideas they will get pelted - Geelong is too vanilla.

The bad man was what we used to call him as a term of endearment
He was a great character loved the board politics
Desperately disappointed that we didn’t get Buddy Franklin down at PP

See what the herald sun said though is that Adam Cerra prefers Justin Longmuirs laid back coaching style instead of the intensity of Ross Lyon. Geez our players are in for a rude awakening then and will sook off. That’s my concern. Anyone think this is true?

Honestly I don’t care , there are many Cerra out there ,,,

There isn’t many RL out there and he will weed out the mentally fragile and you know any 22 going out there to play under his tenure , is going out there to kill for each other

Now for a Moment imagine that ...

We saw how much they wanted to kill for each other in Ross's last two years at the Dockers where he got sacked.

Sure, one is a young talented coach with a depleted list and the other a supposingly experienced coach that has never won a flag and been sacked.
