yes this one is quite old and rehashed a few times already. No I am not a Teague plant - I want to see stability onfield and Teague has the best win/loss for the past 10 odd years without a gun midfield.

he has solidified the defence and forward line just needs room to breathe and get the players he wants to mount a serious challenge in the future.

I am anti-circus and this is what this board has provided on field and needs to stop at some point in time.

Happy now?

JSOS was handy absolutely, but at the very least, we knew where the footy was going (and yes, happened to have an extra mid to work with as a result).

Trying to break even with TDK/Pittonet/Casboult isn't going to work.

Pretty sure it's the same poster. Has a good strike rate with club info - comforting to read.

Point is that’s his best position
Inside mid not a third tall
Regardless that he is contesting the hit out
In fact with DeKoning in he would have got higher numbers
It took the heat of Cripps for once and no coincidence he played one of his better games
Newman Owies Stocker have that ability IMO as well
JOS is a smart footballer
He is a good distributor in heavy traffic

You know Walsh, I like Teague and I appreciate your positive contributions here at a time when most of us are feeling despondent about where the club is at.

He’s a very good bloke who gave everything he had as a player (you don’t win a Robert Rose Award without giving it your all) and I was pleased when he was made coach as I hoped he’d bring a hardness to our club that’s been lacking since Greg Williams retired.

And whilst I’m still awaiting the return of that hardness unfortunately it’s not only hardness that’s lacking at our club - there’s also ruthlessness. To Teague’s credit as a human being I just don’t see that as part of his make up. Which makes him a good bloke but not necessarily a great coach. Because every great coach I’ve seen in 51 years on this planet has been ruthless.

I’m also aware that Teague was appointed as caretaker coach on the 3/6/19 and you joined TC five days later.

Anything you want to share about that timing?

I’m guessing your investment is more in the man than the club.

The culture has been shocking in this club for 20 years. 6 coaches haven't changed that. The motivation, drive, hunger, effort etc, nothing has changed with different coaching appointments. How do you not see that? What does that tell you? You can't coach a side with a bad culture. Whatever you try to do the players don't put in the effort to execute it properly. Given we were still in contention and very competitive all year on the scoreboard, if we put in a true effort in all year of course we would play finals. Like i said, how do you not see that. What do you think another coaching change is going to do that the previous 5 or 6 haven't? Have to get to the root of the problem and it isn't coaching. Teague's record is the 2nd best this century by a margin. He took over a side that had won 4 from the previous 43, with some of the most embarrassing losses this club has ever had, including one where a side outscored us 7 goals to 1 in a qtr with 16 men for alot if it.

You're kidding jim

Focus on this year, and you'll get your answers.

Stop trying to make a connection between 2000 and 2021. Its the now we are interested in, not conspiracy theories. You're making excuses. Put the spotlight on our current coach...every other coach has lived with covid and bubbles.

And comparing Teague to the previous unsuccessful Carlton coaches ....why not compare him to other coaches who have won flags, to see the difference between his game plan and there's, even better, make it easier, coaches who haven't won a flag: Rutten, or Fagan, or Leon Cameron, or Goodwin, and look at what their teams are doing THIS year.

Best comparison is Rutten. Took over a team hovering around us, and he's only been in the game 2 years....see the difference?

Teague let the players get ahead of themselves last week. His disclosures after the match were truthful and focussed on the 2021 problem. He doesn't dwell on the past. He's allowed the 2021 players to run the show.

I love you man, but Stop the excuses

Changing the coach won’t suddenly make us a top 4 side. The club has bigger issues. No doubt the last 20 years is still impacting the club. It has a poor and losing culture that stems from that period. The recent decisions in recruiting Betts and prolonging Murphy’s career, is a clear indication we have lost our way.

Saying that, Teague is out of his depth and should be replaced.

I wonder if the alternative board challenges is muddying the waters with this news, hmmm.

It will obviously happen, but how better to further undermine the board by leaking fake news?

On the flip side, I wish it was true, no point delaying the inevitable. Would be great way to give Murphy a send off.

C'mon man... how hard is it to see you need end to end crisp ball movement to win games in modern football. You need ball users in the back half but are rendered useless if they are unable to harass and tackle thats why Newman is good value and in front of SPS by a country mile.

Lose clearances heavily and you are giving away a dozen of easy inside 50s.... either win or breakeven or find players that can win clearances and then use the ball correctly- its not rocket science.

I think Newman has done ok and I’ve never mentioned him. Also, I agree but the players I mentioned have been disappointing with the ball in hand and that is when they get it, because not often enough.

Also, why haven’t we run Gibbons and Fogarty thru the middle more. Which we don’t rotate enough, but I’m getting tired of going around in circles. You have your thoughts and I have mine.

Let’s see how it all unfolds. I have to get up for work tomorrow. Until another day.

Newman is getting on.

He's been a good servant, but lost form this year, where his kicking was a shadow of what it once was. He was dropped and a late reprieve for the Adelaide game saw him as the 23rd man. Lucky for him Murphy only lasted 10 minutes and Newman came on and played in a winning team. He, along with 2 other senior defenders have had the fumbles this year.

Injury toll has seen Williamson be recalled despite no form in the VFL and Newman has kept his spot. he hasn't been that good.

Last 2 weeks, some of his kicking has been terrible. Media highlighted him last week. His passes to the forward line this weekend, like Williamson's in the first half missed easy targets, which could have been shots at goal. Newman was one of our best because he defended and used his body and fist, but his kicking is not what it once was. Nowhere near it. He was an amazing kick at Sydney as a kid, and then came to carlton and was kicking some big goals from HB, especially last year vs his old club kicking 3. The accuracy is not that great anymore. Nowdays, he puts his boot into it to clear the area.

Don't rely on Newman to provide crisp ball movement to win games in modern football as he ages. Newman will be 28 next year. He will be depth at most next year imo. He's just a bit better than SPS and few of the average kicks in our team. He wouldn't be getting a game in the top 10 teams imo. Hey, I'm glad we've got him, but I'm not counting on him in the future.

Yes he has. Difference between back six and defensive transition. You couldnt even tell the difference between HFF and wing. You shouldn't talk.

Yep, and a shithouse game plan finds a way to have 7 kicked on Jacob Weitering

In fairness that didn't happen. Weitering was moved off Larkey fairly early on.

Yep. But he had 4 kicked on him for the day.

Point taken but It really doesn’t matter who they were kicked on. With the ease the ball came in he could have been on Steve silvagni and he would have kicked a bag. The point is we have no defensive structure whatsoever and our backline gets thrown under the bus as a result
