On the AFL site today they still list Jacob Hopper from GWS as out of contract.

Just turned 24. He's a contested ball gun.

Worth a loooooog hard look.

Little response to your post Cazz...........i find that amazing............we should be all over this bloke.Strong physical player is exactly the type we need....................rather than the high profile players that seemed to be hyped up around here i for one would be thrilled if we landed the less glamourised players like Hopper and Touk Miller. Both would be sensational for our club.

With Dow and Kennedy improving substantially in recent weeks, Carroll and Kemp showing promise in the VFL and Stocker demonstrating he has got what it takes, I think our future midfield prospects are now starting to look quite promising. I'm also looking forward to watching Philp develop when he returns next year. Obviously it would be nice to land a player like Hopper or Cerra however I think we should be focusing on talls, regardless of whether it be through trading or the national draft. If Charlie can make a convincing comeback towards the end of the year then I think our focus should be on a key defender to replace the 30yo Jones.

Little response because it's close to zero chance of getting him.
Gun player though

and they spent plenty of time developing him. No rush job. Got him primed to play AFL Swans way.

This was the Blues way before the draft system actually. Most of our Premiership stars came through the youth system.

Dont understand why all clubs cant have youth facilities like the Swans. Carlton was the best at it.

The AFL Commission put an end to our Utopic place of work and worship, and we gave them their existence as a foundation club.
Have a look at the respect they show for it.

All teams should be able to develop kids in their own Academy.

I think McGovern could be quite successful in a key defensive post.

Are you trying to find a spot for Gov when Charlie Harry & Tom/Jack all available and playing in the forwardline?

I reckon he'd get monstered by KPF's Charlie Dixon, Hawkins, Lynch, Daniher, Kin bros....the biggest guys are usually KPF's

I guess he's had some practise against Harry McKay to know what to expect. Weiters has and says he's glad Harry is on the same team because he's hard to keep quiet.

190cm Gov's too short for KPD. He'd be giving away between 5-10cm in height, let alone reach.

With a full injury free list, there's going to be some good footballers miss selection altogether. Gov will have to fight for a spot in the 22. He hasn't done himself any favours with coaches and fans and doesn't have any credits to rely on. In fact, despite his incredible leap, speed (when fit) and accurate kicking he's been an expensive failure thus far with Carlton.

Dont see Gov as a starting 22 player but will provide great depth.

Similar to what Josh Jenkins is providing at Geelong and helping their youngsters to tick over those wins - 35th player on the list and wages to suit. Wouldnt rush to delist him.

Has got 2 years left on his 5x800k deal so delisting won’t be an option until end of 2023 season. We’re stuck with the contract and now we’ve got to hope he can somehow muster 15+ games per season for the last two years and provide some value.

Sunken costs. Front end payments in the midst of our rebuild when we didn't have too many on huge salaries other than Gibbs and Murphy, and Gibbs' was also front ended

He's not costing us much anymore, but yes, he does owe us.

hope we get some value from him, otherwise its his loss...sunken costs along with hope he will give us a return on investment

If the Gov fails to deliver in the next 2 years put simply two things

1 worst trade in the last 20 years.
Maybe the Brad Hill trade to the Aints is worse
The timing of it still staggers me
2 I was right
I wonder if this trade is brought up in the external review
It @#$%&! should do
Along with Martin Williams must simply get fit
Do what Bolton from Tigers did
Did extra training with someone
This Russell [REDACTED] comes across as a science control freak
These 3 blokes are on huge coin
Train them like the good old days
Jezza style until they tickle the carrot bag
The 3 of them are gassed after one effort
At least Saad is fit

Salary cap up next year is going to rise from 12.54m to 13.55m

Add to Gov, Murph, Betts, Levi at minimum to be taken off our TPP next couple of years - I hazard to guess keogh is going to be one busy man god bless his cotton socks.

We will have to spend that money and thats alot of money to spend as front end contracts wind down.

Having said that the under 23s that are currently best 25 on the list currently will probably deserve a pay raise though.

Bring in more players or give very large pay rises. Cripps has already made a statement to bring more players to the club and thus the scrutiny on our future recruits will be justified.
