EXPECT to see some familiar faces - and some relatively fresh ones - back in action this weekend.

Carlton is set to welcome back Jack Carroll, Tom De Koning, Nic Newman and Luke Parks to some form of football this Sunday.

With both AFL and VFL sides to take on Essendon* this week, Director of High Performance Andrew Russell confirmed that the quartet would be available for selection this coming weekend.

It’ll be a long time coming for both De Koning and Newman, with the duo to play their first games of the season. In Newman’s case, it will be his first in nearly 12 months.

“Nic Newman, De Koning, ‘Parksy’ and Jack Carroll all trained today. They’ll train fully on Thursday,” Russell said.

Only Parks is a possibility...unless they've been building DeKoning to jump over Philips, coz Philips will be doing that over Pittonet this week.

Injury news: Curnow on track for 2021 return

An update on the fitness of Charlie Curnow

CHARLIE Curnow continues to make important inroads in his return from a knee injury.

Carlton Director of High Performance Andrew Russell provided a clear update on the health of the forward, who has ramped up his recovery in recent weeks.

A series of knee injuries have prevented Curnow from gracing the football field since the middle of 2019.

Russell said that the Blues would continue to monitor Curnow’s progress in a conservative manner.

He revealed that Curnow had begun to get involved on the track, having returned to running and partaking in kicking alongside his teammates.

“Charlie’s going well. He’s exactly where we expected him to be,” Russell said.

“He’s running, he’s doing agility work and he’s kicking the footy.

“He’s not quite into training yet with the group, but he’s progressing well.”

Russell said that Curnow was on track to return to football in the second half of the 2021 season.

He maintained that the Blues’ staff would determine the best course for Curnow’s long-term health.

“We’ll be guided by Charlie’s body, how he recovers from training sessions and how it adapts from week-to-week as to how quickly we can progress him,” Russell said.

“If all goes well, we’ll have him available later in the season.”
