Did anyone else hear SEN on Drive last night talking of predictions?

The panel; essentially David Schwarz and Liam Pickering had Carlton as Wooden Spooners this year as "we've lost a lot of leadership"....?....Campo a leader?

Bugger me if they're picking Essendon* and Collingwood as big improvers!

WHY????

Then the public start ringing in and they nearly all had Carlton on the bottom.

This is all good stuff .....underestimate us....bring it on!

I'm doing the wrong thing by publicising this crap; but there it is.

Schwarz also said he thought Denis would be the first Coach sacked.

We started 2005 poorly, had an ordinary mid-season, ended the year on a succession of lows and won the wooden spoon as a result. Of the teams above us, Collingwood had loads of injuries in '05 and Hawthorn is most likely on a steeper upwards curve than we are.

I honestly can't see any reason why anyone wouldn't pick us to finish 16th this year. Because I can't justify any of the other 15 teams (barring massive injuries) having more reason to finish bottom than us.

Of course, that doesn't mean I don't hate outsiders picking us for 16th though

:x

Fev, Waite, Kouta, Eddie, Lance, Harttlet (potential), Kennedy (potential), Carlos.

That forward lines shits all over Collongwoods. Might not have the star value of Rocca and Tarrant but it has options, mobility, pressure, etc.

Every year the media say that last years wooden spooner are most likely to win this years wooden spoon. It happened with Richmond the year before us but they surprised.

I am not saying that we arent going to get the spoon but what you have outlined is just easy to say.

If you think about it all football supporters outside of Carlton would see-
In - McLaren, Saddington, bunch of kids 2-3 years away
Out- Camporeale, Morrell, Johnson, Norman, Bowyer

I listed those last 4 as at least they are seen to be useful, just not probbaly AFL standard. So from someone elses point of view we look worse off.

Every list will hope to improve from the natural improvement in the players on their list and that is what we have to hope for.

I think that in general; the general footy public including the media; loves seeing us on the bottom and struggling and don't want it to end.

They don't want to see another Carlton dynasty....ever again.

SEN also mentioned that we'd done "nothing to speak of" as far as recruiting for this season....I think we've done well.

Hopefully; I'll be ringing them later in the season and asking them...."What was that prediction again?"

Agree with that PK. Also, there is always at least 1 or 2 clubs who surprise and have bad seasons. I reckon we could realistically win 6-8 games next year. Might only put us around 14th, but should avoid the spoon.

Listened to it over the net . Find it hard to see how The Ox had the crows at 15.

But if you listen to most reasoning they do have a point where is the improvement going to come from . Most players play their best footy between the age of 23-27 we have close to 20 players on our list in that age group. Some of these blokes will really have to step up this year as they are no longer youngsters .

Waite turns 23 - houlihan -24 - Fevola 25 - Deluca 24 - Bryan - 24 - Ohailphin- 23 - thorton -24 - davies 23 - livo 24 and even longmuir 27 ( older than whitnal) - these blokes have to take the next step and start showing that leadership that everyone keeps harping about.

It is difficult to see where we can improve this year we cant expect a hand full of kids to provide this improvement

Interesting, Warbs. I am thinking that these people may regret their choices, and not just because of us. If they think Collingwood and Essendon* are going to be the big improvers, they are kidding themselves. It won't take a lot to put them in spoon territory, especially Essendon*.
It would please me indeed if Pagan can print off this "discussion" and present it to these guys at the end of the 2006 season, when he asks for an apology.

no surprises. two wooden spoons in 4 years.
and you would expect the team with the worst list in the league to come last.

Blues won't win the spoon. 2004 will be a better comparison of our performance this year with our key personal not carrying injuries through the season and a group of youngsters about to take on the big time in Murphy, Bower, Hartlett, Russell, Simmo, Bentick, Walker and Betts.

The same Ox who nominated John Baird as his big improver of 2006.

John Baird was delisted in October and will be playing SANFL.
He should be called The Oaf, not The Ox.
It's more applicable.

Yeah. Schwartz wouldn't know a tram was up him unless you rang the bell.
