That's why they have won flags and that's what ruthless and successful clubs do. Move forward with youth and invest in them and you might actually be surprised at how they go with some OPPORTUNITY and faith.
We on the other hand reward Murphy, Betts and most likely Simpson with another year.
That's what we do at the boys club.

100% agree

Hawthorn just gets it done

We on the other hand make outlandish statements about how we are cooking and we’re baaack after beating the Gold Coast. Smacks of desperation.

We went too far the other way after Elliot. All about apeasement and treading warily and just expecting things to happen

Usually when Hawthorn tell someone to retire there's a gun player ready to come in ,,,,

We really have [REDACTED] up the last 3rd of this season.

After all the positivism of this year with Betts' return to Club Carlton, Teague Train looking so promising, expecting the kids to show growth after a full preseason with Russell, and Russell setting the expectation that we will finish off with strong legs towards the back half of the season, things could get even worse.

If we lose against the Lions we end the year 7 wins and 10 losses. The judgement of carlton's year, and the list, and the coach, and the oldies, will be seere and all positiveness a total waste.

If we lose

Effendon* come out swinging and beat Dees = we drop to 13th

Suns win their next 2 against Pies and Hawks = we drop to 14th

Leaves us 5th from the bottom = disastrous year given all the promises and optimism.

It aint gunna be good. Better win Blues if you don't want the heat on you for the rest of the summer and all of reseason.

Boys, you've made your own bed.

Hey, Mr Nice guy ...oi...Teaguey... its time to HTFU.

Making space !!!! OMG

Oh no...you mean we are not the Destination club

All this negative media of the last few weeks directed at Teague and Carlton in general is not going to make us very attractive.

So we’re all just going to ignore that Hawthorn have also re-signed a 38 year old Shaun Burgoyne with the intention of carrying him to 400 games?

There are club culture and performance considerations to be made at this time of year. We’ve been willing to move on players who weren’t playing important roles on the field (Kreuzer 2020) or who weren’t improving club culture (Thomas 2019). The Hawks aren’t doing anything special by retiring 2 players who are no longer in their best 22.

Went back to the press conference after the match think he was spot on
Said let fans down by performance
Need to be more ruthless
Need to be able to play 4 quarters
What we need to do to become a good team
There are reasons why we aren’t a top 8 team but 12/13 th on the ladder
Thought it was pretty good

It feels like we get scored on through rebounds from our forward half quite a bit and there seems to be 2 reasons for it:
1: poor kicking efficiency leading to turnovers. Turn the ball over when all our players are moving forward or trying to get to their defensive position, and you’re going to get scored on going the other way.
2: poor positioning and 2-way running from our running players (small forwards, mids and rebounding backs).

Some tweaks in those areas (and I understand they are significant flaws) and I actually think we have a real team on our hands.

Yep, a few tweaks should do it....

A game plan that is founded on attack first and foremost is doomed to fail.

Carlton don't have a defensive identity. Just a moderately unique attacking style that looks good some weeks then is easily shut down once opposition coaches figure it out.

Then there is no defensive philosophy to fall back on.

Look at the Tigers. It starts and ends with defense.

The Hawks are shit. Yesterday's heroes and totally irrelevant when discussing footy in 2020.

He shouldn't be. Those same players (and others) basically went on strike in the last few weeks of the Bolton era and then conjured up the Teague Train solution like the Emperor's new clothes

Correct, because Bolton focused on developing the younger players because the older players weren’t going to get any better or take us to our next flag

Stevie Wonder can see we aren’t going anywhere on the back of our veterans, yet Teague thinks otherwise, and has abandoned the development of whatever young talent we have

Giving games to young players when they aren't ready or deserving does way more harm than good.

Diesel even referenced Paddy Dow getting games when he didn't earn them as damaging to his development as he doesn't play with the intensity required for AFL level.

This is a hard year for new coaches as there is no lower level where you can get a good gauge of wether players are ready for AFL or play them back into form.

I give all first year coaches as get out of jail card this year, but he better have them playing with better cohesion and intensity this time next year.

Longmuir, Nicks seem to be doing ok, Teague had half a season head start (actually longer) on the new coaches

I don’t think Diesel was talking about the Paddy Dow of 18 months ago... Dow was the best performed mid out of the top ten in his draft year, and doing pretty well; SPS and Fish were doing well in the midfield too. Dow started going backwards with the change of coach, who banished the youngsters from the middle.

I don’t think E Curnow and Murphy are going to get any better as mids or play leading roles for where we want to get to... let’s develop our young mids

I also think SPS, Dow and Fish are better movers, and have higher ceilings as mids than Setterfield

So moving on Kruezer and Thomas don’t qualify?

And who's to say the younger players aren't getting pissed off with it?

Getting bored in the hub playing FIFA and fortnite while senior players have hardly been managed at all in a compacted season with travelling, short breaks etc.

This is pertinent.
It's something I said before we went into the WA hub.
Fisher was playing practice games while Murphy was stinking it up in the seniors.
Well fisher got his chance but not as a mid and Murphy has finished off the season better than he started it but there are kids like Kennedy wondering why MvGovern is playing after he (Kennedy) payed several better than serviceable games on the trot before missing out.
The reality is many of our kids havn't had a good look at it and so we don't know who is going to make it but Owies, for example has been kicking goals and eddie hasn't....
