Just wondering if there have been any whispers as to how we will treat the Wizard Cup this year?
Obviously there was a strong desire to do well last year - but has the experience of winning put us off? Will this year be more about experimenting with kids and getting game time into Russell, Hartlett, and Murphy? Or will we be likely to take it pretty seriously again to get some confidence into the lads and establish a Pagan-preferred style of gameplan?
For those without access to Carlton's inner sanctum - how would you like to see us treat the competition this year?

i think it would be silly to go all out again and let the other teams have us worked out by round 1

For a club that has won 21 1/2 games in 4 years I think it would be silly to do anything other than try to win everything we possibly can Shag. If we get worked out then we get worked out - the good teams have multiple plans or a skill level to cover a simple single plan.

I don't think we have a choice but to play the younger players for game experience. They'll be trying 100% to keep their senior spots so you can say that Carlton in effect will be going 100% at winning the NAB cup again.

I hope not. I think the best thing for the Carlton Football Club is to go about it's business quietly and sneak under the guards of everyone. We need no attention thats why players like Lance and Fev should pull there heads in and fight for this club not create any negative attention or any attention cause its not neaded.
We are a sleeping giant and we will slowly awake.

Very seriously. Why wouldn't you? I would rather try to win the Wizard Cup and then finsh last at the end of the home and away season than get knocked out in the first round, only to still finish last anyway!

Every extra, high intensity game that these young kids can get is what we need....EXPERIENCE!!

One day, a few of the young guys who played in the winning Wizard Cup Grand final of 2005 will go on record as saying how that experience was invaluable for them. Especially so if they are to play any finals football soon.......

Why wouold you want to lay low? To hide our game plan?? TO maybe win an extra game or two? Waste of time. We need a winning culture. Perfect Practice makes for Perfect Play...

I was rapt to see us win it last year - finshing last hasn't detracted from that at all. And I will be rapt again if we can do it this year. Not that I expect us to......

I will be happy to see Russell, Hartlett, Setanta, Murphy et al get some game time under the belts to use the Pre season comp as a springboard to long AFL careers...

I just wish it started soon.........

There's only two team trophies on offer each year - as if you wouldn't give both of 'em a red hot go!

I think the Wizard Cup is an interclub match played over at Collingwood this year.

As for the NAB Cup - Surely they are going to see what our youth is capable of this year FFS

Are our finances so good that we can afford to knock back another $250,000 :?:

We should go all out win to it again and if more people sign up as members as a result then it's worth it! And Lance is looking like he's primed for another great pre-season. 8)

We will try to win the NAB Cup. It is the best way to get match experience into our youngsters.......But if we lose or get knocked out early I do not think it will worry to many

Depends on whose up and running and ready to go fitness-wise. No-one will be risked but I would love to see a little more youth in the line-up - eg Blackwell, Murphy, Hartlett, and Setanta.

From the various training reports, the players (senior regulars) in danger of not being available seem to be:

Fev
Waite
Walker
Kennedy
J Smith

I also reckon that we will take the NAB Cup very seriously.
[1] We need the money - badly.
[2] Our youngsters need experience under pressure.
[3] We get to play in predictable places, instead of all over the planet.

Confidence.
We will achieve nothing if we cannot establish "sustainable" confidence in our ability to win.
There's only one way to get it. Wins and more wins.

Every game we approach we must go 100% to win.

200k would be nice again, but i'd rather see us go into the season as a smokey. If pagan shows he's not a one-trick-pony in terms of gameplan then id be happy for us to win again...

Surely playing good opposition on prime time TV at a good venue is better than running the risk of injuries playing practise games on sub standard grounds at nar nar goon
