Seasons cooked. It’s all about next year and beyond. Play the kids. Keep TDK in. Play him over Pittonet if Harry comes back. He’s the future. Bring in Dow, let’s get a look at Honey, hopefully Stocker is back soon. We need to keep bringing through youth

Freo and GC next 2. Very winnable. Actually, have to be won.

Yeah but not doing any damage this season. It’s still all about development. Too many missed opportunities already

While it's there you keep going. Making it, or working hard to make it will do more for development than anything else. Nothing like a lesson of what's required for the big time.

Wait until it's out of the question before giving others a run.

Disagree. For the first time this season, I’m at the point where I’d rather play Dow or Stocker over a Murphy or Newnes. It might hurt us short term, but these guys need game time to develop. We’re too far off the pace with the current lineup. Improvement has to come from underneath.

Playing TDK is the perfect example

I love Cripps and he is a good leader but I could have puked when he took the one hander and walked back to his mark smiling. He hasn’t kicked straight all year and I would have bet my house he was going to miss again. He is a legend but he’s clearly never heard the term “captains goal”.

Pfft. Overrated, and protected. Has a 'free pass' for picking up the ball then dropping it cold. Always 'play on'. Sh8ts me to tears.

Bit harsh?
Looked to me like the free was paid as Murphy played on.. And advantage was called as he was being tackled...

Agree. Fair chance he gets suspended, yet no game day free kick. The umpiring across all games is becoming a real embarrassment for the game. No consistency with holding the ball. Just appeal every time you tackle someone and then hope you win the lottery and get the free kick. Feel sorry for the players trying to navigate what they can and can’t get away with once they take possession.

Pros:

1st half.
Tackling was good. Defensive running looked better than last week.
Fisher and Jones.
Thought most players contributed.
Nice to see games put into guys like De Koning and Cottrell.

Cons:

Was always going to be hard to kick enough score with Harry, Charlie, McGovern and Cuningham missing. And then losing Martin early. Makes last week's effort even more costly.
Another 5 goal burst from the opposition.
Typical parochial home-ground umpiring. Particularly inconsistent with the holding the balls in the forward arcs.
That surface is like the early days of Etihad. Way too hard. 2 players in 2 weeks going down with calf injuries.
Not getting enough out of our best players.

The WA biased umpiring has been a genuine issue for years

I have no doubt it gifts them games

Natanui should have pinged a few times with no comment from the star struck commentators

And when only 4-5 clubs get to play in front of home crowds, it becomes an even bigger advantage.

Everyone gets a trophy. Or should that be no accountability? Or even better, no criticism and no consequence? Welcome to the Lefts idea of sport. You know, like lockdowns, one size fits all. Can't officially say anything bad about an umpire. This will result in FINES! (sound familiar?) Especially when you wrap it up in the cloak of ....feelings. Oh poor umpires, lets all feel good and let them do as they please without scrutiny. See where this leads? Probably not, but lets all take the knee in solidarity , group think and feelings. Who cares if state Premiers lie, umpires cheat, as long as where in this together, like a collective hive mind, so no one stands up for fear of being fined for disobeying the rules. Rules? Oh the one for them and one's for others? Where you lay a tackle in the forward 50 and its deemed a ball up, and lay a tackle down the other end and its holding the ball? Oh yeah, thems tha rulez!

Maybe football should just get it over with already. We all go to the game, bend the knee to whatever feel good cause is the flavor of the month. Both teams win, we all get trophies, everyone leaves the game happy. No one is scrutinized, no criticism and most certainly no consequences, unless of coarse you step out of group think, like say anything bad about an umpire, then you can look forward to a nice massive fine. Now just shut up, pay your membership and pay homage with your dollars to our glorious advertisers.

More pissed off than last week, umpires so blatant in their bias, our mids and their coaches.
I knew we were going to loose last week but we had the !@#$^& game and threw it away, even with those cheating pricks.
We need to make a stand and demand answers this simply cannot continue.

Absolutely blatant and gets “play on”? HTF did Curnow go to ground? HTB is officially a joke

We pointed out the obvious about cripps a couple of weeks ago and they decided to punish us now, we needed to walk off half way through the game and make a statement.

The umpires have been shit all year. Ths was just another confusing game for everybody, including the commentators.
We had some big positives out of the game.
TDK should play every week from now on. His timing was a bit out but he showed plenty. There is room for him and Pitto. One of McGovern or Harry always seems to be missing anyway.
Cottrell looks like he will be OK when he gets the feel of it.
Kennedy has great hands.
Fisher back in the team even though he only had a few touches made them count.
Jones was dominant apart from on mistake.

I hope Cripps is either exhausted or injured. I am convinced his weight loss has affected his stamina and his ability to break free. I certainly hope he hasn't checked out.
If Teague keeps playing SPS in the back half he is blind or stubborn. The kid isn't an inside or naturally defensive player and tonight showed why again. He gets tackled too easily looking for an option and if he gets pinged, it's a scoring opportunity. He is a gifted player but his gifts relate to time and space.
Levi has been off target for about three weeks now. That first shot was as bad as ever he has been.
We are a better team with Harry in, even if he gets most of his marks in the back half. Levi was swamped every time we went to him, which was every long bomb.

I expected to lose. I didn't expect to be pissed off with the second half effort.
The tactic of bombing it long is not working. WCE takes more marks than any other team so challenging them to a marking competition was not very sensible or original.
We played one and a half quarters of footy before collapsing in the usual fashion. It's bloody obvious that we zone up too high in defence and are susceptible to a team running the ball through the ground and scoring out the back.

Teams like WCE and Collingwood that play chippy chippy in defence waiting for the zone to break down are all very well but I'm guessing there were at least ten marks paid to WCE tonight that went ten - 12 metres. The umpires are beyond criticism but this is one of the easiest things for them to sort out and they are incapable of it.

Sliding doors moment ....

19 points up
Ball gets kicked across goal and Cripps running the same way puts the arms out but can't catch it (would have been 15m out)
Following on from that TDK tackles Nit Nat and holding the ball NOT paid (again about 20m out)
We could have gone 25 points and who knows .........
Anyway it was Ball Up followed by a free kick to them and Game Over (they kick the next 5 ........ etc etc ....)

..... and then they call us Brave

Others won't hear of it but plenty of examples today of what posters have written about MM all season. Highlighted text says what has been happening all year. Like the pocket lint part.

Yeah but he had 23 touches they'll say...
Well 14 were handballs, only 8 contested and he had the least amount of metres gained by any midfielder on the ground.
Cripps spent most of the first half at full forward and had more metres gained.
Leadership

Very good first half.
Effort was there all day, even when they got away from us.
Good to see Fish back - clean and skilful which we’ve missed. Must play the rest of the year.
TDK showed there’s a lot to work with - just needs some time at the level to adjust to the pace and physicality.
Cottrell had a go and again showed enough to persist with.
Jones very good bounce back after poor game last week.

Cons:
Another failure to stop momentum in that third quarter.
Midfield beaten again. Not surprising against IMO the best midfield in the comp. Need to find another mature A grade mid - Kelly, Wines, Zac Williams can do it too.
Martin injury - not sure the severity but presumably missed games.
Really ruing the Melbourne and Hawthorn failures. If we’d won just one, then we’d be 5-5 and in it up to our eyeballs. Instead, we’re 4-6 and no chance of finals.

Win the Melbourne and Port games, one being a shit loss the other we were in front when the siren went, and we're 6-4.

Inconsistency in-game has really hurt us this year.
