I don't give a shit if Garry Glitter is a full forward but we are winning. Surely you barrack for the club and even if there's someone you don't like, if they win that's all that matters?

I don't think it's even a rational debate, we won ten games, and I enjoyed every one of them, I wouldn't have enjoyed seeing us get humped more back then. Have I enjoyed it since, um, let me think, @#$%&! no, of course not. But is this a tank v no tank argument? I don't know what it is, this thread is drowning in zen like hanfuls of Mr Miyagi Shit in one hand and Deldio and Franklin wishes in the other.

I agree with Sumo, and am right now standing on my desk at work thumping the roof chanting "SUMO, SUMO, SUMO".

Barrack for the club when they are on the field and hope they win, not for the extra ten spots in the draft a loss that week mught bring.

Thank goodness there are few rational people posting to this thread, otherwise this site could more appropriately be titled TC "TANKING CARLTON".

OK, so Franklin and Delidio are not in Navy Blue, but Russell, Hartlett, Betts and Aisake are. It remains to be seen what sort of careers these talented youngsters can manufacture.

I wonder if Synbad will be back at this site eating humble pie when Hartlett is giving Franklin a bath and Russell is trouncing Delidio. I doubt it. He will be banging on about something else that's wrong with Carlton and probably still looking for easy fixes and scapegoats.

It's Carlton's high standards and their never say die attitude that will do more to mould champion players than tanking and raiding drafts. Just look at Fremantle. I would not be surprised if the Saints fail to win a Premiership with their current crop. I'd back the Swans to beat them every time. And as for Collingwood..... I'll leave you to join the dots!

Freebie picks is fine ... but i hated watching us later in the year and knowing that a win was worse for us in the long term than a loss ... but hasn't the change in the PP rules meant that we can't qualify for a priority pick next year as we won more that 4 games this year?

If that is the case then this extra pick stuff is a non-issue. We can't change that we won 10 games in 2004 - in hindsight it may have done us no favour but we can't do anything about that now.

With the talk of next years draft being a 'bumper crop' then maybe it is not as important to finish last (as it was this year), as we can be assurred of a quality kid anywhere in the top 10.

I'd love deledio in our side, but unless he walks from the Tiges it isn't gonna happen. As we started to embrace the system the AFL have gone and changed it, i'm hoping that from this year on i can just go back to enjoying watching the footy - win, lose or draw - sit back and enjoy the journey until we are a power again

I'm under the impression that any club can get a PP next year at the start of round 2 (ie after every club has had their first pick) if they win 4 games or less.

You get a PP before round 1 if you finish winning 4 games or less 2 years running (so no club is eligible for that next year)

To continually bag players for being overpaid, making mistakes, being fat, losing games etc gets boring & just doesn’t make sense to me. Sure there are times when you’ve just had a gut full of one bad loss after another, bad press or the club seemingly doing nothing to stem the decline in our most famous & high achieving navy blue. But if you’re only prepared to sit back & bag players/performances, hoping for high draft picks & a return to power, then there will be a lot of good times, good wins & heartbreak that will be missed along the way, & lets face it, isn’t the whole host of emotions experienced what supporting a team is about. Bagging the players/club & waiting 10/15/20 years for a couple of top 4 finishes & maybe a premiership isn’t my idea of fun or success. Remember ’93, geez there were some duds in that side (some that wouldn’t get a game today), but it’s easier to support a side that’s winning.

Awhile ago I was playing cricket for a club that went through a few years of mediocre performances for various reasons. After a while, the constant bitching of the committee, supporters & sponsors gets you down & you begin to resent them. It wasn’t like we weren’t trying to win, everybody in the side was having a crack, we just weren’t good enough at that stage.

I don’t know what its like to play in front of 50,000 people or understand the pressures involved in playing AFL, but, I do know what it’s like to play in an under performing team, bust a gut & get accused of not trying.

I think I’m just going to support the players we have & enjoy the ride. I’ll place my faith in the players continually developing their skills & the recruiting staff getting it right so I can then bask in the glory of our success & find my arrogance again.

Of course you dont know what its like to play in front of 50,ooo supporters.. thats for the elite, professional athletes... who are scrutinised.
Noone gives a toss when you head off to the pub and get blind after a game...
None cares what you do.. youre a weekend hobbyist....
...... youre trying to compare 1993 to 2006.....
I love the apples and oranges scenarios we get in here from some lala landers.

Supporting the club???

Hell yeah!!!im supporting the club!!!!.. i dont mind seeing them doing something properly to become great again.. over having a perpetual percentage of 70% and getting thumped every second week because we have...
Fat players...
Players that dont care and dont have standards...
and not enough talent...

Wake up!!! its not sunday ,morning at the park.. the tv stations gave the AFL $780 million because its an alite professional sport.. which requires elite professionals in it.. or we will be on Foxtel forever and slipping to a nothing club!!!!

words put in mouth

I didn't mention the draft at all. Im not aiming for an earlyish pick next season as a priority... I'm aiming for growth. I'd prefer to see Murphy in winning teams than Chambers, because that'll mean our "winning" will be more prolific in 3 years time (in all likelihood).

Thats what I'm talking about.
