Agree that we should not make any knee jerk reactions.
Not should we allow ourselves to be panicked by the risk of losing the messiah coach to a rival.
But I hope the process includes an assessment of Teague after the season IF we win 6 or more games for the year (which I thought was minimum bar at the beginning of the year but 5 wins a good achievement from 1-10 when he took over).
He has more experience than, say Rhys Shaw, and has coached his own team.
BUT we’d need to see more wins and, even more than that, clear and deep evidence from the 11 matches that he is the guy, beyond the honeymoon period.

As conveniently pointed out in this article this morning;

https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-07-02/ ... be-careful

It's not to say Teague isn't our man, but historically it is more likely that the change was made for instant wins, morale and membership sales (and we did trade our 1st pick away too). The question is and in Teague's own words when the "I'm just having fun" stops and it's time to get serious about a finals push, does his style, game plan, tactics and ability get us there?

This is why the club still needs to follow the process and not make an emotional knee jerk decision because everyone is having fun, that doesn't win premierships.
That article doesn't know whether it's coming or going. G Thomas wasn't successful but N Craig was? Is he saying without a flag caretakers have been failures?
The facts he presents shows a positive in appointing caretakers

Well I think that is obvious, no flag = no success at the end of the day. We haven't spent the last 3 and a half seasons of hurt making a team that will be perennial finalists without the silver.
The only positive I read in caretakers, is in the short term and do we need that again? Hardly the foundations of a powerhouse club, this is why we need to follow the process with the romantics of an ex Carlton player at the helm put to one side.

Edit: I just read the caption for the photo (which I don't normally do) and see what you mean about confusing. Not sure if that was Barrett or AFL.com

Does this mean you're putting a line through Mick McGuane?

Hahaha.......make that a solid line, he's probably best suited to the EDFL.

Major buzz kill too. Geez man - 4/43 and now 2/3 ... let us enjoy the moment!

If he could've been bothered to do some research it would've been interesting to examine the win-loss ratio of coaches appointed on passion vs those appointed via "the process". I'm not so convinced that the latter approach is the be-all that the suits seem to think it is.

I like processes. I like to be across the issue and work out where we're at. Let's tee up a meeting and workshop it further.

I agree some more numbers would've been good to properly compare. But in our own recent history of promoted coaches, Brittan didn't work, Ratten didn't have the team and the board wanted more than finals and Barker had the worst team we've ever had. This could just be bad luck, either way due diligence is required at this point of the rebuild.

Credit to Teague & co for finding something that worked with 21 men. We fair dinkum thrashed them after 1/4 time... but, what they had drawn up for 22 men couldn't manufacture a goal in 30min.

That initial plan had our best midfielder in a tagging role. Against the Doggies, we couldn't get anything going until the spare found an opponent in the midfield.

Someone in that group of coaches needs to put on their big boy pants, or kindly GTFO of the box.

We actually dominated the first part of the first quarter just couldn’t get reward on the scoreboard ...

I reckon Teaguey is the breath of fresh air these guys needed. There's no school teacher like cliches - as passionate as Bolts was - it s just laid back but dead honest from Dave. But supporting the laid back stuff is moments of real certainty and confidence "we've done the work....we are ready....we are out to win every game....can't wait to see these guys put 4 quarters together....I'm excited".

Gee whiz

Yeah. It's great to look forward to games instead of dread them.

You know what shits me? The 'process'. You know what shits me more? People who have to go through a 'process' of box-ticking rather than trusting intuition and instincts.

If those in charge have to go through a 'process' with Teague after watching him for 3 months then they have no right to fill the position they're in.

We went through the same process that delivered a coach with a win rate of 9.3%.

That's my rant :smoking: .
