Teague who has control of our horrible forward line, why not the only success in Dale Amos?

This was my thought.
Teague is in charge of and presumably has set up the least-functional forward setup in the competition.
If that is his level of footy smarts, I can't see a Norf style turnaround in fortunes any time soon.
he has 2 weeks to show us what he is worth.

Personally I would like Ratts back.

Clarkson might like a change and I imagine if he came over we would become an instant destination club BUT we would have to throw the kitchen sink at him and give him a long term contract to go with it. Might be too risky.

Find me one person who can coach our forward line. Near impossible. Did a great job as forward coach at Adelaide though. So much so he was the sole reason McGovern came here. Did a damn good job as coacb of our NBs getting a pretty ordinary side to consecutive Grand Finals.

Obviously on the poll you'd look at Clarko first but he won't come. So if we go an established coach it's Ratten or a rookie coach Caracella. Anyone who went Voss has a very short memory.

Roos & Clarkson have already been approached and offered big $. They're not interested.

Is the Longmuir in the poll meant to be Longmire? & why's there no option for Lyon?

I get this feeling that Luke Hodge could be the next big thing in football coaching. I don't think he needs an apprenticeship. He is unique.

I thought Campo did a real good job holding Adelaide together after their coach Walsh was murdered by his son.
Worth a chat.

I have yet to decide who my preference for the senior coach job.

So many options.
Experienced coach vs assistant coach
All options for coach have positives and negatives.

I have my bias position:
LYon too defensive
Clarkson average without Hodge Mitchell & Lewis.
Ratten been there done that
Scott angry ant, and discarded for a reason.

All assistant coaches are all unknown and therefore inexperienced
Bolton had 100% win rate as acting coach of Hawks, albeit only 5 games.
Makes Bolton more qualified than current assistants when he was selected as coach.

What I do know is the future coach knows he has a rebuilt list.
Carlton is not a start up.

Most of the list is under 24yo.
Just needs topping up with senior bodies

Trade or Free Agency, doesn't matter. It will happen.
North did it with Scott at the helm, but injury got the better of them.
Remember them winning first 11 games of the season.
They topped up with Waite and Higgins.

Carlton is a destination club for any coach.
60,000 members.
Cripps Docherty as captains.
20 young 1st round players.

Licking lips. Flag for the taking.

I read this without looking at the poster. Then I thought,
"I wonder who wrote this?"

As usual a well argued post, Bondi.

I absolutely want us to win flags and soon but for the sake of the club maybe we need a coach (experienced or not) who will let our players loose?

Carlton supporters have been through a fairly tumultuous last 20 years.

Maybe we should hire a coach who can let our kids run free and crazy and play like an indigenous NT team?

Maybe if we just remove the shackles the talent that is there (or not there) will be evident.

Organisations and companies and teams often become great when they do things that the others aren’t doing.

Maybe this is the moment when we decide to drop the defensive mindset and go all out attack.

There’ll be people who say that’s no way to win a premiership and we remember the Geelong sides of the early 90s and it didn’t work for them but maybe the way to get ahead of the curve is to actually be ahead of the curve.

The AFL has become so sterile and bland over the last few years. For that I blame Roos and Lyon and all the other flowers who shut down creativity. Why you’d want one of them coaching you is beyond me.

If we want to be cutting edge then why not try something completely radical.

And if it doesn’t work and we don’t win a flag then at least we’ll have shitloads of joyous moments and a highlights reel worth watching and the knowledge that as a club we tried to shake up a very risk averse competition.

Time to inject a little Eddie Betts back into the DNA of the club.

Time to get positive.

Jeez, there's some good stuff on here today.
Another great post.

I hope people don't forget that Ratts has been through a hell of a lot since he left Carlton. Been through hell.

Not sure that he would even put his hand up for a tough gig like carlton.

Given what he has gone through do you think he would give a shit about the pressure of being a CFC coach or even if he got sacked?

Would be happy with any of those, but of the 3 I would go with Basset who worked wonders at Norwood at SANFL level (back to back premierships) before moving to Port Power as an assistant. Won't get many votes on this forum because he is in the wrong state and not high profile like some others, but he can coach and has played AFL football as a dour defender at the Crows.
I hope that we never go down that path ever again after the Britain and Bolton experiences. Not keen on any failed former AFL coaches other than Ratten, who compared to our recent coaches did not fail. We made the finals under him and he has since worked with Clarkson.

I have a feeling it will be Scott, I would be surprisingly ok with that.

They did alright last year and he has coached them to finals. He’s young, experienced and he looks super keen to continue his career. He’s a safe bet IMO.

I don’t want Voss or Ratten and I don’t want an untried coach and theres no chance in hell we will be able to poach a successful coach who is currently coaching. 0%.

My choice - Dale Amos

Would love to get Roos but I think that he has had enough of coaching. My vote went to Basset, but would be happy with Ratts as well.

Clarkson ... but i just dont think it will happen.

I am really warming to Ratts ... on so many levels. Always had the thought that he was shafted .. took us to a prelim, in sydney that we lost by 2 points? not sure how you go from that ... to getting sacked etc..

Considering everything else, i think he ticks all the boxes.

We played three Elimination Finals and one Semi Final under Ratts for a total of one Elimination Final win.

All on the back of Chris Judd.

If people are fed up with Bolts management speak then I’m not sure returning to Ratt’s stats is what we really want.

1 player does not make the difference ... see Patrick Cripps.

Ratts had a shocking list ... absolutely dreadful.

Has only received praise since leaving.

Other than Clarkson ... the best choice by a long long way.

We have history regarding re-employing a sacked coach, who went on to win another premiership. David Parkin

Please, can we put the Roos suggestions in the wheelie bin. How many times has he said he's out of coaching period ? I for one would like a coach who actually wants the job. Not someone who has to be talked into it. Final word on Roos, pretty sure he spends about half the year in Hawaii. Why give that up ?
