It's true, you can make it work. but you need elite mids locking down that neutral forward of centre zone, along with some elite forward pockets harassing & creating defensive pressure.

in our set up, 2 key forwards and more foot speed is a better balance. swapping a key for someone quick, would benefit us much more.

Polson (imo) made a big impact on the weekend. lots of second efforts and creating pressure. He chipped in with a nice goal and had a few goal assists too. I wonder if garlett would be good in that role? garlett and polson crumbing around harry and gov, with charlie playing higher up the park (forward wing?)

I think you touch on a key point about our midfield. I think it’s less about the 3 big forwards and the smalls at their feet and more about the zone the midfielders create. Even when the smalls are putting on a heap of pressure, Port seemed to find a safe outlet to bring the ball out of their defence. I think that’s a midfield issue and something that can be fixed through training and experience. The 3 talls can work, but it depends on the midfield unit more than perhaps a smaller forward line would.

I hope not. I'd like to see Kennedy come in. Push Murphy forward. We need a bit more pace and smarts at ground level up forward.
McKay and McGovern can do the heavy lifting.

Agree...
Also loved Polson (but I'm a fan)... And wandering why we think Garlett is a defender....
Anyway... This week we need to run run run... At Marvel, clean conditions, we should be able to use speed and skills to our advantage

Go Blues

I'm not going to get to see this game as i will be in New York but having seen the swans live at Marvel in round 1 and their effort at home last week this is one we should win, we have been much better than them. A loss here will be down to mental/effort issues.

Plowman Jones Newman
Marchbank Weitering Simpson
Walsh Cripps SPS
Garlett McGovern Fisher
Silvagni Mackay Polson

Phillips Curnow Dow

Setterfield Murphy Thomas Kennedy

I've dropped Fasolo because he has had very little impact, yes kicked a couple and done some good 1%ers and tackles but nowhere near enough.

I've also dropped Gibbons because whilst he tries i dont think his impact is high either and i want to see Garlett forward, realistically Gibbons probably stays and Garlett gets dropped

Charlie out injured.

In: Marchbank, Kennedy , Silvagni

Marchbank kind of makes us too tall down back but he is too good to leave out if fit and Plowman can play small (ish)

Also moved Curnow back to the middle.

Marchbank and Weitering in the backline together don’t work.

Marchbank forward to replace Charlie then to the wing

I’d love to know Weiters stats with and without Marchbank

Marchbank is a bit of a conundrum (in a good way), can he play forward?

Our options would seem to be:

O'Brien: Add some run to the side, possibly looking to exploit Sydney's lack of pace.
Kennedy: Mid-field chop-out. Cripps can then head forward more often to change the mix.
Silvagni: Replaces Curnow forward, but can play mid to give Cripps a rest. Sydney isn't especially quick, so his pace wouldn't hurt too badly on the Marvel deck.
Marchbank: Tall utility. Bit of a risk here. He's a classy player, but hasn't played for some time and the defence is actually playing okay. Can he go forward?
Casboult: As a back-up ruck more than as a forward. Allows McKay to play forward 100% of the game.

Need to add some speed.
Swans look very slow.

Leg speed isn't as important as speed and accuracy of ball movement.

I hope this week on the track the players back themselves and have the courage to gain metres with fast, penetrating and accurate ball movement. That's what pressures and breaks an opposition.

It's either him or Jones who should play the zoning off 3rd man up in defence.

Eventually I'd hope Macreadie replaces Liam.

I reckon Marchbank gets a few weeks in the VFL (when their season finally starts) to build up some match fitness before he comes back in.

.

It is for the huge part of the game when we don't have the ball. Chasing opposition players with the ball or getting numbers back into defence, leg speed makes a huge difference.

Just got a call from the Membership department - he strongly suggested that Marchy and Kennedy will be the ins this week

And then he sold me a raffle ticket for $200 :)

Clever man

This!
And for four quarters.
That's all we can ask for. if they do that and lose, so be it but if they win, even better.

I saw Charlie at the club today ... he looked fine to me ... no signs of discomfort ...
