And again, the comment was made that Anthony goes missing in big games and I pointed to the biggest game of his career where he was close to BOG. BV was right about Anthony's importance to the Pies. Do you think it is a coincidence that the two years Anthony has been out injured, the Pies have finished on the bottom? Anthony's problems with fitness were true around 1998 or so, but you don't rotate between CHF and Ruck at 194cms if you don't have a good engine.

FJ

Hey Fj,

Yeah, I'm the fool, you start banging on about Sav?? I think I know who the fool is. If you meant Anthony, and you reckon top 10 or 15 of all time then that is just plain wrong. 100% incorrect.

And as for them being bogans, come on, take a look at the family, not saying anything about them as people, they are probably wonderful people, but they cannot hise the fact they are bogans.

One big game performance doesn't make you a champion, sun even shines on a dogs arse some days. Show me the amount of times the guy has missed simple set shots from inside 50 and at straight angles when his team really needed him.

I'm not sure his engine has improved that much? As I said, one big chase and he's hunched over gasping for air, they say that all the time off from the achilles injury and now he may be fit so we'll see then.

I think you'll find FJ that he was referring to the Cloke family as the biggest bogan family going around.....and he would be correct...Fancy having to deal with Damir Cloke come contract time when he threatens to take away Travis to another club if they don't re sign Cameron and Jason...

Bainuzz..I made the point that Rocca takes more overhead marks....you admit Lance isnt a great mark, lousy trainer..apart from his so called footy smarts what are we getting for our 400K or should that be what have we been getting for our 500K a year?.
I know you dont like the Brown/Tredrae comparison and obviously the Barry Hall one isnt a favourite either...I'll make it easy for you...Pavlich and Scott Lucas...tell me why Lance is so much better than them as a CHF and player and what we are getting extra for our money...or are they out of the box as well??

Verbs..grass greener?...good teams have a good CHF..we had one in Kernahan...why do the pro Lance group get so defensive when he is compared with players on similar money playing in the same position...whats wrong with a direct comparison?

You make a fair point Elwood. I'd like to separate the money thing for a minute though. I think when Lance was 17 or 18 and holding down CHF I'm not surprised he was signed to a big contract, who wouldn't have signed him up at the time? Pavlich came along after Lance and yeah who wouldn't have Pavlich, he's a great player, but just how do we get him?? Someone the committee at Carlton have resisted the chance to get rid of Lance for many years, they must know his value to the team? Is he earning his $400 k, maybe not, but what manager on behalf of their player will say, you know what, you're right, he's been a bit below par in a few area, slash his pay by 50%.

Lucas is an interesting one, the guy is hated by his own fans, well most of them anyway, and always seems to play well when I see him, very one sided, and not sure he is as quick on the uptake as our Lance, but still under rated.

I didn't say he couldn't take a mark or was a lousy trainer, you did, I said he probably isn't the best in the league at either of those things. For our $400 k I reckon we are getting a guy who is a general in the forward line, can read the play very well, and if we had a decent midfield would probably take alot more marks and set up alot more goals. I think the guy has been forced to play in a crap team for many years and shouldn't be subject to the amount of individual scrutiny that he comes under.

Apologies to everyone -- I promise this is the last I will post in defence of the Roccas -- but to respond to Bainuzz's suggestion that I'm the fool for suggesting that Sav will go down as one of top 10-15 full forwards of all time, for a full forward the stats don't lie.

I don't disagree about Sav?? I never did, the whole discussion has been about Anthony, why don't people READ before (over) reacting. If we are talking about Sav I still think top 10-15 full forwards of all time is a bit lofty, he's been a great goal scorer though, no doubt.

Using Sav's stats to back up his Anthony Rocca is better argument LMAO. This thread is too funny. I heard that Chris Tarrant never misses kicking for goal at training. That makes him the best kick in the competition. Who cares about what he does on the ground, it's training that matters.

The irony is noone on here owes up to being Lances relative.

And training is important The Game.. if it were not important there wouldne be any training.....

But thats where some people fall down isnt it???

they are unwilling to prepare themselves as best they can.. because theyre soft.

The other thing that that does is it rubs off on everyone else.

Then before you know it you have a bunch of Lances/Campos running around all trying to be loose man in defence after they return from the fat farm....

Next thing you know the club is last........

Same amount of times as Jonathan Brown I believe.

So zero yeah? Fancy using Rocca as an example. Maybe he is one of those training track stars so we don't get to see what you do.

I'm sure there is some logic in there.
I'm obviously not looking hard enough.

Dont get to see what who does?

The Game, I only responded to a comment about Sav because if you scroll back in the thread, I thought someone was insuiting he was a bogan and shit. If I was mistaken in my understanding, I apologize. As came to light in another thread relating to DOA and his relationship with AW, some people post some offensive stuff about people on the assumption that none of the regular posters have a personal connection to that person in question. When the argument turned to using labels like "bogan and shit", I felt that I should respond. Nowhere do I suggest that Sav's goal kicking record justifies Anthony's output or capability as a player.

Easy for you to hurl abuse behind a computer screen. Try saying it to their face.
