I think the club is trying to find a spot for Lance (rather than poor coaching) because Lance hurts us when they have the ball. He is not alone in this but he is a culprit.

When Lance moved back and Fev was used as a decoy and Fish came back the forward line worked the best it had since the wizard cup. Can we have Fish Waite Lance Fev and Deluca in the forward line? I think not.

I think though the club want Fish there (contested mark) De Luca (assist in rucking and can bust open packs) Fev ( kicks goals) Waite (gives us mobility and can kick goals and can mark running back when there is a turnover)

So Lance is the man liable to be moved. I do not think this is poor coaching, I think this is searching for team balance.

Surely they must be planning on moving him back forward Dannyboy? I don't see the point in playing a guy who earns 400k per year as a loose man in defence.

I'm a huge fan of Fisher though who is the best mark at the club and should play forward.

Lance smarter than Brown??.....what have you based that on....? Not results obviously.....Whitnalls footy smarts are overated IMHO and he is light years away from being anywhere near Brown as a footballer...when Lance is smart enough to play as a midfielder like Brown did ..let me know
Lance isnt even a CHF these days..we have to hide him down back, find a easy place for our 400K a year superstar CHF...why is that?
Why have we recruited Josh Kennedy?.....I see no difference in how Lance plays down back and how Cloke plays..its just costs us double the money for his so called footy smarts.....the only smart thing about Lance is how he has fooled so many people for so long and milked his reputation for being a so called smart player...

You let yourself down with the remark about skin folds. Did you read the bit where I said I'd have Brown in my team in a second, who wouldn't? I don't believe smarts meant that Brown could play in the middle, Brown shows more bash and crash than smarts. We recruited Josh Kennedy because he's going to be a good player?? I'm not sure you stop recruiting for a position because you have a player in it? e.g. we don't need Murphy because we have Bentick.

I don't think we've tried to hide Lance down back, I think we've had to play him down there because of our porous defence and donkey's like Livo have photos of someone on the match committee.

You underestimate Brown and imply because he is a physical player(bash and crash) he isnt smart...thats incorrect...he is better than that...and Brisbane will probably make the very dumb Jonothan Brown captain when Voss retires...I guess you think Barry Hall is a dumb player in comparison to Lance as well...Barry being a well known bash and crash meathead..

You also failed to address the issue of Lance and marking the footy..he doesnt take overhead marks at all and you know it but wont admit it..Richo who you slagged and Anthony Rocca would both take more overheads than Lance..
Josh Kennedy was recruited as a CHF and because he has good work ethic and leadership potential.....two facets of the game that Lance doesnt have..we can play games but you know as well as I that Kennedy is our next CHF because Lance cant cut it and perform in a Brown or Tredrae type fashion.... and those two attributes I mentioned are part of the reason why Lance wont play CHF once Kennedy is fit and firing.

Murphy and Bentick are different types of players...Bentick is a bluecollar extractor in the Ratten mode.....Murphy is a Blue Chip player who is capable in that area but is also a creative player in the Luke Ball mode.....

If I let myself down with skinfold comments you joined me with your Livo outburst..Livo is no superstar but he doesnt get paid like one either, Livo does give you 100% effort though... dont disagree that Lance was tried down back to shore up the defense, but at times he was sent down there to try and get a kick because he wasnt getting too many up forward or taking too many marks...he also was used as a spare man often without an opponent so we could limit the damage...

Rerad my post Billy.
I'm not saying I'm more clever because I've seen more training, I'm saying that I'm basing my opinion on 200 odd training sessions plus games.
Lance would be in the poorest 5 kicks at the club.
I didnt suddenly realise that yesterday.

You are right, just because I watch a lot of training doesnt make me an expert but I didnt think I claimed to be. :?

I'm not weighing into the arguement because it's not all that gripping.

I was watching a game from 2005, or was it 2004? anyway, Whitnall kicked brilliantly to set up Kouta for an important goal. Vision, awareness and execution were all spot on. If that's in the bottom 5 at the Club, we're heading in the right direction.

Yes I remember David Clarke hitting Riccardi with a spearing left foot grass burner.
Vision, awareness and execution were all spot on.
Why did we get rid of him? :?

Heres a challenge Verbs, tell me 5 players at Carlton with poorer footskills than Whitnall.

Depends what criteria you use.

Davies missed some shockers from 20 out, but slotted some miracle goals.

Predergast's passes, particularly under pressure can be very poor. Has booted some huge golas though.

Walker's kicking under pressure was poor at times. As was Houlihan on quite a few occasions coming out of defence. But they are still pretty good when they get it right.

Wiggins always cops a badgering.

As does Sporn

Results are what matters, and if Whitnall is in the bottom 5, then we're doing fine.

but I was watching my son the other day and he kicked a brilliant goal. 8)

Oohh...claws are out. What a surprise!!

BTW BV, if you break the code of conduct, the moderators have a chat to you, if you don't, they don't. It's really quite simple. I'm sure you understand how it works. Now, off you go and talk to the people who can take it when they give it out. You have been warned!

I tend to disagree actually. The way the game was played in the 70's would not favour Lance because it was a lot about 1-on-1's, contested situations with your immediate opponent, kick the ball as long as you could and just move it forward.

As we know, Lance sucks at 1-on-1 contests, especially if he's not on the move already.

I agree with the game in that if he played up forward it would be close to goals.

but why should he play close to goals???

cos hes slow?

Like we have a FF better than him..

why do we need him if his only spot at the club is back up FF?
