Lets not fall into the trap of getting getting the short term fix.
Keep collecting the top quality otherwise we're not going high enough to win a flag.
If you just want to play a few finals over the next 3 years then trade for picks and players.
I want the cup....

Plus, I don't want Adelaide anywhere near number 1 just to spite them.

They have never done us any favours...why should we in return?

"Suffer in ya jocks"

If Adelaide get pick 1 and pick Lukosius then I don't mind. I don't rate him as highly as the next 4 picks.
Rankine is the best player in the draft. As long as Adelaide don't get him and we get some good draft picks for the No. 1, I will be satisfied.

If we could somehow trade pick 1 and still get Rankine it would be sensational.

I just posted this in the Bolton thread but it probably is more appropriate in here.

A good read.

A sensible post at last.

I tell you WA, if we trade that #1 pick for a deal that involves a current player I'm going to do the proverbial spew up. I could live with a two for one, so long it includes something in the top #5, otherwise tell 'em to piss off.

Four picks under 30, (incl the PP), four more kids from the draft.

I can easily see six wins next near, ten or more the year after that. More importantly I could see ten of the top dozen in our B&F being 24 or under. That's a club on track not to just sneak into the eight, but to be able to do some serious damage for six to eight years. That's building a team

Interesting that they all basically say the same thing in principle, but vary slightly in their thoughts on what to do next.

The only one with the slightest bit of drama was "The Diehard", but even that was pretty measured, if not a bit heartbroken.

But overall, a far cry from the alarmist bullshit that gets written up every day.

Good article.

Maybe they've been told enough is enough with the Carlton vitriol

Best part was the jab at STK for going to bottom of ladder but failing to draft any stand out guns. Billings is good but not “build a club around” good like a Charlie or Crippa

I would only swap pick 1 if we can get a ready made a grader and a top 5 pick. Otherwise keep it and get a huge talent to the club for the next 14 years.

If Adelaide completed some trades which landed them a top 5 pick then they could on trade that to us and an a grader for pick 1. Pick 1 is gold and is what everyone wants. But we have it.

Are you talking about the media or the pages of Carlton fan sites?

I think Pelchen forgot we had Docherty on the list when he said we have 2 stars.

Docherty's a good player, but I don't think he's in the "star" class - certainly not with Cripps, (now), and Charlie, (future).

Oddly enough, as good as the so-called top six (in this year's draft) are, I reckon there's a legitimate reason to not draft each if them with pick one (for CFC anyhow) :

Walsh - skinny runt who could take years to bulk up and doesn't kick enough goals

Rankine - is a small forward and who in their right mind uses pick 1 on a small forward

Max King - ACL

Ben King - talls are less likely than mids to make the grade IMO

LuciousLips - flight risk

Smith - perhaps lacks the tricks in-ckose that Walsh has

In saying all that I am a fan of Ben King as he really attacks the ball in the air and plays both ends, and I like Smith too because of his aggression, speed and good kicking skills. Potentially picks 5 and 6 gets you both of these lads

More a case I think of variations in how we define "star".
