just reading about the mess over at north. 30 million in a "war chest" to spend. offering massive overs on all kinds of elite players, and being turned down methodically, one-by-one by all of them. De goey taking a $3.6million pay cut to stay with the pies? is that good or bad? loyalty from de goey is good, but it's bad for league wide parity, yeah?
imo, that there is a current problem with the AFL. teams trying to get into the elite end of the comp, are routinely shutout from that happening.
all this doesn't bode terribly well for us and our aspirations of landing an elite mid or really, two... in their minds coming over here in the prime of their career to be bashed from pillar to post (see Judd, Chris) and probably not even play finals footy is a massive ask.
Exactly, clubs that are tier 3 will never land an A grade midfielder through trading. Carlton was effectively the last club to do it with Judd on the back of Pratt power, Carlton’s reputation etc.
Since then, the competition has changed- 18 teams, an AFL designer free agency, trading for draft picks, no priority picks etc. Their policies have contributed to this mess etc.
Judd was effectively the last A grade player to go from a tier 1 club to a tier 3 club. There is more chance of me going to the moon than Carlton recruiting Rory Sloane, Shiel, etc
Dane Beams going from Collingwood to Brisbane is one. What do you want the AFL to do about free agency??
