Incredibly frustrating that we turn up every week trying to implement the same game plan that we can’t do well.

In the past you could at least expect the coach to decide to go man on man, or a different set up at stoppages, or an extra man in defense or a kick out strategy depending on the opposition.

Our plan seems to just confuse players and rob them of the ability to play with any natural instinct.

Mids, mids, and more mids. Cannot draft anything else in this year's draft. And make me big, able to stick tackles, and good kicks.

Pros:

Lamb and Cripps.
Some flashes from Harry and Fisher.
O'Shea was reasonable.
Murphy's 2nd half.
At least we gave Graham an opportunity to actually play midfield.

Cons:

Defensive set ups. Opposition was scoring as easily as earlier in the year.
Just got smashed around the clearances by the bigger bodies.
Ridiculous umpiring inconsistency in marking contests.
Kerridge's turnovers were back to their horrendous worst.

Very good first quarter, but fell to pieces after that.

My thoughts
- Cripps is the leader of this team. Proved it again today.
- Until guys like O’Shea, Mullett, Kerridge, Rowe and Jones are in the 2’s as “senior support”, it’ll be a rough ride. These are the “25+” brigade that scribes use to prove we’re not as young as we say we are.
- Whoever is in charge of our defensive structures (whether it’s Bolts or our defensive coach) shouldn’t be.
- We need our best 22 fit and consistently playing together to be competitive. When was the last time this happened?
- Today our guys dropped their heads when things started going badly, which of late hasn’t been happening. Is it the week we’ve had? The coach not communicating? Lack of on field leadership? No simple solution here.
- We were fielding our worst team for a long time, Melbourne their strongest in decades.
- Again, Dees we’re always going to come out firing for this one. They rate themselves more by what they do against poor opposition, than decent opposition, which history has shown time and again.

Today was a shit day, and ends a shit week. We were ripe for the picking and Melbourne are a team only too happy to knock someone while they were down.

People are more than welcome to shake their fists at clouds and stomp their feet, but I truly believe we’re on the best path and in the best hands (for the most part). Today was another massive pothole but the road goes on.

Yep.
Learn some lessons, get some good players back and forget about that one.
Our kids were found out by the conditions. Footy is often a game of momentum. Kreuzer (twice) and Cripps missing sitters are killers. The kids can be excused but some of our senior players were poor today. Murphy, Kreuzer, Rowe. We needed them to stand up and they weren't able to.

What was Murphy's injury that had him off the field early? The foot again? He didn't look right when he came back on

Bolton: I’m glad it’s a six-day break. The Geelong game can’t come quick enough.
Bolton: I’ve asked my players and coaches to confront this game and reflect on it very strongly.
Bolton: We are not going to let a young group use injuries as an excuse.
Bolton: It was a really disappointing performance, particularly the second half. We won’t sweep it under the carpet.
Bolton: Murphy has a niggle, but he got through. We’ll re-assess him during the week.
Bolton: These losses are going to happen in our phase of development, but we can’t accept them.
Bolton: Hopefully both Curnows return next week. I like what Cuningham did in the VFL yesterday, and Phillips was good too.
Bolton: It was a disappointing game for Kerr, but I liked some of his lead-ups and he doesn’t get pushed off the ball easily. There were some positives.

Pro: donstuie getting champed by a super flog in the match day thread. Was funny. That's about it.

Con: it's a small thing but I'm not a fan of the getting into the face of the oppo every time we kick a goal. Obviously it is pretty rare but it just looks shit. There are other ways to show intent.

I chuckled too, probably for different reasons though.
