Statistics does not back up that claim, this statement can only be made when we fail to land a free agent that we have publicly stated we are targeting and in my opinion irrelevant anyway as no free agent will be the difference between being a top 4 team or a bottom team

Wrong, they went with a independent process to seek out the exact style of coach they believe will embrace a rebuild, develop draftee's and be patient to stay the course, fully understanding the huge challenge and long term nature and accepting the lack of wins that will come in the crux of it (where we are at now) without deviating from the objectives

We are not gambling, we have put a systematic plan for the rebuilding of the whole football department from players, to coaches, to recruitment and are executing according to that plan. I would not use a horse racing metaphor personally, I would rather explain it a housing sense.

The CFC is like an old house that have many reno's over the years to keep it current and livable, some of the reno's were outstanding, but recently this old house has been let out to some undesirable tenants and the club took the decision that for this house to be sound for the next century, that it would be better to tear down the old house and rebuild with a newer more modern and efficient design.

So far we have torn down the old house and laid some foundations in the new house, but from the outside no-one is sure as to what it will look like and if it would be worth the rebuild vs renovation. How can you judge the builder when we have only just started to build? and if we were to change the plans, will the foundations support a different building design or will it all fall over down the track?

If this was your house, would you be prepared to sack the builder this early in the build?

I think you're half right Jim.
If they are going to play this yo yo game then yes but they also need to apply more pressure and play a faster get behind the defender game. Rattens game plan even if dimma is taking credit (out of necessity or from one of his new assistant) .
If they want to play the extra talls then FFS play them structurally linked and with crumbers on every line. (we really need to teach our smalls how to shark a ball)
They can't have lumbering 2m players running up and down the field getting caught out of position constantly. It throws the whole synergy  of the team out and no one plays their role (or can’t play their role) to a high or even effective level.
We need to take the game on through the middle of the ground and have tall focal point and one on one to be effective. We can't wait for everybody to get back in position to attack, that just floods our forward line and we consistently bomb to congestion.
That and poor execution of course.

I like the move of running Jack through the midfield in the two's to build his core fitness and get his hands on the ball.

I also like the move of Kerridge to a wing in space for the switch of play across ground.

I had the pleasure of chatting with LOB at the season launch. He spoke glowingly of Bolts, his teaching methods but also that he’s a man you do not want to cross and that he could kill with a look.

Everything I’ve seen of Bolts tells me he is a leader.

And as for the apples to oranges dismissal of the experience argument. It’s simply proof of how far behind AFL is from other sports in the world.

Thanks Aircav.

The cancer within the club's REBUILD are the moles we have within the club. They call themselves supporters. Its their rubbish and whinging the media feast on.

I bet most of the whingers barracked for Carlton after they became a powerhouse. Jumped on the bandwagon, and now have lost patience, because they are arm chair experts.

Bolton-SOS are a new regime. Cut them some slack. Show some belief. Look for good signs..and the height thing. FFS. The med9ia are now kinder towards our club than some of these so called supporters.

I worked in the Corporate world and I found most really tall men and women at Board level in corporate world were pretenders, lacked substance, and selected because of their size of their body not the size of their brain, and they hid behind that height (and sometimes behind their good looks0, and intimidated....same with middle management. Have a look.

Bolton's size has nothing to do with anything. Such a foolish thing to say.

Good point.

Not sure which of the available smalls do you think we should be playing? DeBois or Polson? Because all the others are either injured or just returning from injury:

Murphy
Docherty
Pickett
Lang
Williamson
Byrne
Cuningham

...and the media think that Crows are depleted having Sloane and Walker missing.

Don't associate the word by just a certain height, it can also be a mobile type of player. You don't need to be a midget or a speedster you need to play a part.
Yes the two you mentioned and we already have Wright, Garlett, Dow, Obrien, Kerridge, Lamb, Silvagni, Thomas and the resting mids also.
You need the right type of player surrounded by other likely players to play their part and have an understanding for the game. If you don't play a certain way by the time you get drafted you have other traits that make you an afl player, after that the rest can be molded and taught. We keep hearing about players that can adapt and play a role that's what coaches are there for. If they haven’t got the understanding then teach them and give them time to understand their role.
The players don’t know what they are doing because the coaches aren’t doing their jobs properly.

It's interesting that Richmond and WCE have the best nett yards gained per game in the comp. They get the footy and move it forward. We have all that backwards and sideways kicking to take away from our total even before we can get into the black with that as a stat.
Also, something I noticed a couple of weeks ago popped up on AFL 360 as well. It was a stat referring to the distance per handball or something similar. Richmond go a lot further per handball than anybody else, which is to say, they get it OUT of congestion into the open better than any other team. Looking at our game last week, it was like pinball with several one or two metre handballs to a player still in the pack. Richmond players know there will be some one running wide and look for him.

possibly the worst post this thread has seen.

the point about bolton's height is: the guy doesn't command respect in the afl bcos he's never played. He doesn't warrant respect bcos physically he's not intimidating. it's a double whammy. talk about the corporate world & make comparisons all you want, but comparing corporate to sports is asinine.

Sports psychology is closely tied to the military and it's core values. Players follow someone they respect. The leaders need to instil belief to get the most out of their charges. this is non-negotaible for success.

It's widely talked about that a physical presence gets a message across (in combative situations, of which contact sports can be considered to be) more successfully than someone who has none. Now someone short like Clarkson, Hardwick or Matthews can overcome that, bcos they have skin in the game. They all played afl and were hard-arsed in their approach. their approach commands them their respect.

we have bolton who could be the greatest guy ever, cares about the genuine welfare of the players and wants to see them be the best they can be on and off the park. All those traits make for an excellent assistant coach, but with no afl playing experience and unable to put genuine fear into players "with his look" bcos it carries no weight.

anyway it's a pointless argument. most here as soon as you have a differing opinion shout you out of the thread.

time will tell, and history will prove bolton didn't cut it. Or that he did, in which case i'll gladly eat humble pie. problem is, history is on my side. no non afl playing coach has ever won a flag, and i'll bet the house and everything in it that bolton won't be the first.

possibly the worst post this thread has seen. Nah. I'm guessing this one will top it.

He doesn't warrant respect bcos physically he's not intimidating. it's a double whammy. talk about the corporate world & make comparisons all you want, but comparing corporate to sports is asinine. Only if you have never been at a high level in both, otherwise it isn't that different

Sports psychology is closely tied to the military and it's core values. You're telling AIR CAV that. So now you've not only an expert in the corporate world and the sports psychology world but you're also an expert on the military?Players follow someone they respect. The leaders need to instil belief to get the most out of their charges. this is non-negotaible for success. If you think that is universal in the military, which you are using as a comparison, you are seriously wrong. As many a WO in the Army would say, we follow our commander out of curiosity to see what he will stuff up next.

It's widely talked about that a physical presence gets a message across Have you ever even heard of Albert Jacka? 'Blind' Hurley? Reg Beasley? (in combative situations, of which contact sports can be considered to be) more successfully than someone who has none. Now someone short like Clarkson, Hardwick or Matthews can overcome that, bcos they have skin in the game. They all played afl and were hard-arsed in their approach. their approach commands them their respect. Robert Muir had those attributes but I'll warrant he couldn't coach

we have bolton who could be the greatest guy ever, cares about the genuine welfare of the players and wants to see them be the best they can be on and off the park. All those traits make for an excellent assistant coach, but with no afl playing experience and unable to put genuine fear into players "with his look" bcos it carries no weight. Which is the oppostite from what the players are saying if we can believe reports

anyway it's a pointless argument. most here as soon as you have a differing opinion shout you out of the thread. And you are shouting louder than anybody

time will tell, and history will prove bolton didn't cut it. Or that he did, in which case i'll gladly eat humble pie. problem is, history is on my side. no non afl playing coach has ever won a flag, and i'll bet the house and everything in it that bolton won't be the first.

You could have just posted,
"It's a pointless argument, time will tell if I am right or wrong" and it would have been a good post.
