Mitchell is good and is playing well
I see great upside in SPS in any case and are happy we got him and hopefully will show what a great decision it was to acquire him over the years
Early days people here queried why we took Cripps originally
Courted Mitchell previously didn't want to come apparently so no point worrying about it

Also we could have burned more than that pick on OMeara happy again we didn't go down that road either

We're going to have to find more picks if we're to replace the guys who should be moved on. Casboult leaving might get us back into the second round.

SOS still has a lot of work ahead of him....

Good list ABNS. But I can't see Kerridge, Simpson, Pickett or Lamb not being on the list next year.

Simpson still in our best 8 players
Kerridge is one of the few that can get it 30 times a game
Pickett has another year on his deal
Lamb has been pretty good this year (best small fwd after wright).
And we will have delisted at least 6 players

Club not sure on casbolt. Don't want to pay him $600k+ over 3/4 years but my sense is they would be happy to pay him $500k or less on a 2 year deal.

Yeah, I agree odds are that Kerridge, Lamb & Pickett will be there next year. Perhaps instead of "lineball" I should have said "on their last chance next year". Thomas is another in that category I suppose - I'm fairly confident he will get a new incentive based contract (1 year with an option?).

Simmo might go around again, or he might decide that it's better to get out a year too early than a year too late....

If you review our list management over the past 5 years, we haven't delisted a contracted player. Not sure if this is something that the players association has had an influence on across the league, or if it's just a Carlton specific thing, but Kerridge and Pickett are safe based on having contracts for next year.

Their are 11 players on the probable list. We delisted 12 last year. What's everyone's thoughts on how many will go this year? You'd have to think that the probable list is going to be largely correct, so that's somewhere around 10 - 12 players to be delisted this year...

There will be a deal done. In is not in Carlton's interest to make this a career ending injury. We sent him back out there when his knee was already shot and it caused further injury.

Nonsense, that will have no bearing whatsoever and nor should it.

Two more drafts left in this rebuild??

Not a lot of margin for error.

Last night was yet another case in point as to why we need to build our midfield capability. Whether by the draft or trading.

If we get the picks, trading and FA spot on. Realistically, probably 3 drafts to allow for a few misses.

Of the fabled 66 game rebuild, don't we only have this and next year's draft?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Please.

66 games is not guaranteed. It's based on what media say, not based on your selections, then your development. I think at minimum, we have two more drafts, FA, and trading periods if we get the selections right and are to see quantum improvement on field.

I'm hoping we go to the draft with our first pick. I know that Kelly and others are possibly available but I just feel we are not ready for that yet.

A 66 game rebuild means 4 drafts and pushing for finals in 2019, making finals 2020. The time to make judgements on the whole rebuild is second half of 2019 with final decisions in 2020

Isn't that somewhere between a 77 to a 110 game rebuild?

If Casboult leaves, who plays second ruck? Kreuzer has shown through his entire career that he plays best when he plays 80% ruck time, so we can't play a second ruckman alongside him (e.g. Phillips). McKay you would imagine will become the forward/second ruckman, but he may be a couple of years from being able to do that week in, week out. There doesn't seem to be anyone else on the list who could play that role. I think the risk of losing Casboult is greater for his role as second ruck than it is as a forward.

Options for a forward/second ruck to bring in cheaply for short term, until McKay develops and He Who Shall Not Be Named comes on board (not arguing their merits, just who is around and might be gettable cheaply):

- Tippett
- Sam Reid (free agent)
- Pederson
- Could Goldstein play as a forward?

Anyone else?

Liam Jones plays second ruck.
Most teams are using a mid 190cm second ruck who plays mostly forward.
We use Jones to go with that player. Moving from defence to ruck.
Kreuzer is either off or forward.
Weitering or someone else depending on match ups goes back to cover Jones.
More flexibility, more run.

Asos is a warrior. He could be the modern second ruck without sacrificing a position on the ground. Others could also pick up the slack when k is having a breather. Chuck in the fed line. Jones too.

Smart thinking choo.

As an example, he who loves himself Daniher plays 2nd ruck for the cheats now. Put the beast up against him 2nd ruck.

Would make Levi redundant and open a spot on the forward line for at least one of McKay; Kerr; the younger SOS, without it being top heavy.

AFL 2017 Round 18 - Brisbane v Carlton

Carlton's Matthew Kreuzer is close to signing a contract extension with Carlton

Blues mid running out of time to return

MATTHEW Kreuzer is poised to re-sign with Carlton in a deal that is expected to bind the in-form ruckman to the Blues for at least two more years.

Kreuzer is due to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, but has already satisfied a trigger clause in his existing contract to play on at Ikon Park in 2018.

The 28-year-old's management and Carlton, however, have been working on a longer-term deal over the past month. It's believed the new contract will run for two or three years, which would keep Kreuzer at the club until the end of 2019 or 2020.

It's understood those negotiations should be finalised soon, with both parties confident a new deal will be announced before the end of the season.

Kreuzer has had no interest in testing the free agency market this year and seems almost certain to finish his career a one-club player. He was linked to a move to Collingwood when he was last a free agent in 2015, but ultimately re-signed with the Blues for two years.

Kreuzer's importance to Carlton has never been more evident than this season.
