The list decisions made the first and second year Malthouse was at Carlton were very bad.
I don't mind that we lost a good player but we should have busted up the whole list at the end of 2012 and started what we are now doing years earlier.

Say what you like. Malthouse turned over 12 per year during his tenure. He started rebuilding at carlton. Pity about the recruiting department

Oh that's not so bad then.

We lost the best small forward in the AFL for nothing, another small forward who kicked 3 goals against us last week for next to nothing, a player who won a B&F at his new club for next to nothing and traded in some rubbish.
But at least we turned over 12 players.

Lets not forget he also sacked one of the best assistant coaches in the system. All so he could bring in his mates to coach and play for us. What's more, we paid millions of dollars for those wonderful decisions.
Yes, its all the recruiting departments fault. Get your head out of your arse.

.... And still paying, as the rubbish brought in was not only on big $$$ but also long contracts ;)

That's the major pain factor for the Carlton football club
If you think the the difference in Carlton being a finals side is in betts Garlett Waite robinson and daisy not being recruited, you are deluded and in need of pinning the club's failings on 1 person

Recruitment hasn't been much good. We all know that.

Can you admit that Malthouse was shit for us as well?

Malthouse is 10% of the cause of our predicament.
The Ratten era is 90% of the cause. There was no whole
Of club approach. Nothing was built for the future.

I'd go 50/50 actually.

I'd argue that the rot began when Ratts was coach, we built everything around Judd, and had Wayne Hughes. Even when we were flying for a time you could see there was little under the surface when things started to go south (ie Judd's failing body).

Mick was our Hiroshima moment. The single event so destructive that it warranted a cultural change.

I honestly don't know if we'd have seen the club's seismic turnaround if we kept the Ratts/Sticks regime and bobbed mid-table like Richmond for a few years. And for that, part of me is happy that we brought in Mick to bring us to such a low that even the most close-minded of our power brokers had to pay attention.

As Pearl Jam sings the song, rearview mirror....
Learn to move on with the whole, Ratten, Malthouse etc, who gives a fuc$!!!!!!!!.
Its all about the future........
Devon Smith, Mitch McGovern or John Patton would be handy though.

Agreed, but I do think it's important or us to learn from ALL our mistakes, not just the Mick-related

You're dreaming.

Don is being nice when he says its 50/50.

We may have been on the way down when Malthouse was appointed, but he set us back years.

The AFL website has an article today on our uncontracted players, 27 in total.
Some priority signings are C. Curnow and Harry McKay.
We really do not want other clubs circling again and trying to poach some of our young players.
Many will not be offered new contracts so I would think that at least half of these will be required.
Players included are;
Armfield
Boekhurst
Buckley
Casboult
E. Curnow
C. Curnow
Jaksch
Jones
Kreuzer
Lamb
McKay
Phillips
Rowe
Simpson
Sumner
Thomas
White
Wright.
Graham
Byrne

Other than McKay and Curnow, no hurry to sign any of the others. Doubt other teams would be circling for them.

Of the others likely to stay are (10)
Levi Casboult (free agent)
Charlie Curnow
Ed Curnow
Kristian Jaksch
Matthew Kreuzer (free agent)
Andrew Phillips
Sam Rowe
Kade Simpson (free agent)
Matthew Wright
Ciaran Byrne

Casboult and Jaksch very borderline. No trade currency though. Levi I imagine is an unrestricted free agent. Both might survive simply due to having too many spots to fill in one draft.

Likely to go (9)
Dennis Armfield (free agent)
Blaine Boekhorst
Dylan Buckley
Liam Jones
Jed Lamb
Liam Sumner
Dale Thomas (option for 2018)
Simon White (free agent)
Nick Graham

White borderline could stay if he manages to sustain his reasonable form. If he gets pushed out but someone younger and stays out then he wont be around. Sumner would have to impress in the reserves to stay on. Can't see him getting a lot of games unless two of Wright, Pickett and C. Curnow get injured.

Agree with most of those, at this stage I would think White will be re-signed. Early to say at this stage but I think there will be quite few nervous players.

I suspect SOS has been deliberate in holding off offering new contracts at this stage, given the CBA hasn't been finalised.
