Apparently club didnt want him back during Ratten's time at the helm.

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/anthony-koutoufides-on-struggling-with-life-after-football-and-not-being-welcomed-back-to-carlton/news-story/e2328fdfc02ea0eedca6cbda9136039a

Anybody have the 'late mail' on why Kouta wasnt welcomed back as a former champ?

Not everyone is owed career in coaching at the club they played for.

Kouta was well looked after as a player so not sure why he's whingeing in the press.

They just didn't need him back as a coach. No other club needed him either.

I am sure he is welcome.

The club already had Jason Johnson to make souvlakis, so Kouta was surplus to needs.

He revealed he had attempted to return to the club in a coaching role when premiership teammate Brett Ratten headed up the Blues, only to be knocked back.

“Some players are fortunate in that they end up back at their footy club and I was never that lucky,” Koutoufides said.

“I mean, the footy club never asked me back — I tried to get back in there — and no disrespect to the club but they didn’t want me there for whatever reason.

“So I probably felt there was something there that sort of said ‘wow, this footy club that I loved and admired and spent the years of 14 all the way to 34 and was in their junior development teams and squads’ I felt a little bit disheartened, I guess, that they didn’t want me to go back.

“But that’s part of life and it probably gave me a little bit more drive to find something to go out and achieve.”

So not being asked to coach = being blacklisted?

Kouta's never been the sharpest tool in the shed, but this is just idiocy.

We will watch the show tonight and the comment will just fly by. It is a nothing story.

Let's not eat our own. Kouta is a champ.

Champion footballer like many of his era but the culture of the club at the time was old school toxic.

The fact that he still seems to think that you're somehow entitled to a position because of your past history is enough evidence that the powers that be made the right decision.

The staggering thing is that Carlton under Kernahan didn't do it.

He went on to say that he totally understood why he didn't end up coaching for us.

He said it himself. He was at the club from 14 to 34 and knew nothing else. Adulation and adoration for his whole young adult life. Can understand that he thought this would just continue. He knew nothing else and could do nothing else. The football world had never said no to him ever. As GWS said it is surprising that Kernahan and co didn't just automatically bring him on in.
What the @#$%&! do I do now? The Souvlaki hut was an unmitigated disaster and would have bankrupted him. He scrambled around for a few radio gigs but it didn't last. Some advertising endorsements but not much. Personal group training at 6am in the middle of winter. @#$%&! me
It was a big fall for Kouta. Kouta and his family are just the best, lovely decent people, but their very lavish lifestyle for many years took a huge hit and it must have been and probably still is hard to take. Not alone in that. Lots of former champion sportsmen in his boat
We know he'll always be revered by us and the club and he shouldn't ever think for a minute and I'm sure he doesn't that he won't always be welcome.
Love ya Kouta.

Watch the interview and hear the comments in context before slagging him off.
He didn't say anything about being 'blacklisted' or that the Club owed him anything.
