Plenty of positives from the game. We are a bottom 2 side but more likely staring down the barrel of another wooden spoon everyone needs to put things in perspective.

All the kids showed something.

Marchbank massive tick

Macredie bargain at his pick

SPS showed he has the tools to be a gun

Weitering!!

Murphy and Kreuzer back to their best which is hard for people to acknowledge on here.

Forward line!! We nearly hit the 100pt mark.

Giving our draft picks a go instead of the recycled players that have shown nothing last year and preseason.

Cons

Armfield has look shot this year still to many players like White Rowe THOMAS!! in the side that need to be filtered out. Rowe should only play if their is a match up for him but he will end up playing every game if fit.

Defending - yes we know the backline is to tall but would rather Macredie get games at the expense of White.

Our ability to shut down the oppositions best players so if you play Supercoach captain whoever is the best player playing us for the round!!

Interestingly 132 points is the most conceded by Carlton since Bolton joined.

It is a very important point given we started the BB rebuild from team defence first.

We did show some good signs, especially the kids and scoring 14 goals, which should've been 17, goes to show we took our focus off team defence.

Plus watching 3 defenders go up simultaneously to spoil showed we are not cohesive down back...and I wonder what the secretive planning was for during the off season.

The Carlton Show ep6 - https://audioboom.com/posts/5753863-the ... ode-6-2017

It's actually not bad.

It's not a CFC initiative and pretty similar to TC discussion.

Sorry but without context that means very little, Sin City.
Were we being lazy?
Did we turn the ball over and the Richmond players trailing the ball struck it lucky?
I'm sure I could find numerous occasions in the game where we outnumbered the tigers. I think our work rate and effort was OK on Thursday. Its our execution and skill that let us down.

The desire level between the 2 teams was polls apart. Richmond wanted the win and without knowing the stats, they would have won about 90% of 50/50 contests. Hunted in numbers, worked well together to clear the contests and pressured us from all angels. I can't say we did any of that.

I don't agree Surrey I didn't see it as lack of effort

Lost game because of skill errors and decision making errors and when you give it back in the corridor and all of your team are out of position then you are going to be scored heavily against

Can't give the ball back that often and win an AFL game

How many goals did we conced where our defender fumbled the ball in their goal square and they kicked the goal

Also when we have patches of dominance we don't put scoreboard pressure on the opposition

Per the Carlton show Our experienced top 10, went at 65% efficiency. Richmonds went at 82%. We only laid 22 tackles in the first half. Stats don't mean everything but our midfield just isn't good enough and especially not deep enough to compete at AFL level. We are 5 quality midfielders short. Gibbs and Murphy to be replaced plus 3 more. Two years of drafting just to get the right players on the list and 1 to 2 more of development. 2020 is the earliest we will ascend the ladder

You are correct, we are in as big a hole as Melbourne were

Agree with all that Frank - except the effort. Richmond hunted and hit every contest with intent and with a pack mentality. We did our usual half baked effort with a little pretend as usual. Gibbs is the only person who laid some real tackles with intent all night. He gets some negativity from supporters and sometimes deservedly, but he was genuine in his desire to win the contest and 1 of the rare ones. We have lacked a real want to win for years and are just going through motions. The day we lay multiple gang tackles with continuous intent, will be the day I believe we are fair dinkum again. Last Thursday night was same old crap and I refuse to pretend its acceptable.
