Went about how you would have expected had you been realistic. The hope was the Tigers implode but they actually look pretty well organised.
Casboult and Thomas gave us nothing and the kids Macreadie, SPS,Pickett, C.Curnow and JSOS were only involved in bits n pieces.

White and Rowe still error prone and Marchbank was rusty with the ball.

This is how it goes this year. Kick back and enjoy the ride.

I think Cassbolt OK. Kicked well. Marked a few. Dropped a couple. Created two contests when it should have been a very easy mark to the Tigers. Rucked well as the backup.

Thomas, Rowe and White I agree with.

Casboults second half was ok. First was terrible. Beyond bad. Had a goal kicked on him out of the ruck. Got nudged out of marking contests by people half his size. He was terrible and helped the Tigers set up the game. We shouldn't pick him.

Yeah that's fair. His second half was fresher in my mind but you are correct about his first. But based on that you pick him and set the second half as the expectation.

Casboult has been in the system for 8 years he is regarded as one of the best contested marks in the comp .Regarded as a power forward and yet the best backman in the comp manned up a 19 year old kid.
Shows exactly where he is at and what the opposition think of him

If we draft anything but mids/running players for the next 3 years....to quote Terry Wallace....I'll spew up!

I think it was great that Bolton had Weitering run with the best defender in the game.
Now that Weitering has taught Rance everything he knows, I think we should put him back in defence.

Problem with our side is that apart from Simmo, Murphy, Kruezer and Gibbs our other experienced players offer little to nothing to the side.

Going to be difficult this year as we currently don't have a second round draft pick.

As it stands we have pick 1 and our next pick is 37.

If there was a Champion Data statistics for effective handballs to feet we would be numero uno!!!!!! :donk: :donk: :donk:

Unfortunately we still have too many players with poor disposal and decision making.

Very pleased with our youngsters last night.

A lot to get excited about.

Couldn't be too unhappy with that, but gee we got killed at the stoppages, plus too slow in defence when ball hit the ground. White and Thomas to go? Would have liked to see a bit more from our experienced players.

We'll win a few, but it's going to be a long, hard season for the kids. I fear they'll fall away badly towards the end of the year. Roll on 2019, all things being equal (and with luck with injuries) we could be a good side by then. A flag in 2020? There, I've said it.

Don't know what to think of the Tiges, I felt that if we kicked the first goal of the last quarter they may well have started to panic. Ninth again? And Rance is a dirty prick.

Marchbank is a seriously good get. This kid has played a grand total of 7 career games. Not many defenders look that composed after 7 games and coming back from a season long injury.Put into context, he was super last night.
Plowman had a very decent second half.
We have the makings of a very good back line, we just need the midfielders to apply a little more pressure coming the other way so that the boys at the back dont look so exposed.
We need another year or two at the trade table and active in the draft, but certainly the talent on display last night gives some hope.
SOS has already demonstrated he has a much better eye for a player than the previous recruitment team.

They're maybe slightly better than last year, but if you look up "March Premiers" in an encyclopedia you'll see their team photo.

Pretty sad when you have Army in leadership group
Not much for our young player to look up to

We kicked 14 goals. How many times did we do that last year?

My thoughts were the Tigers had a lot of front runners waiting for the turnover. Good teams will smash them.

A forward line of Nahas'

I've slept on last night's serving ...

I'm still not convinced on bolton, ay.

no forward structure, no game plan out of defence, we still drop too many tackles and can dispose the ball. we can't hit the chest of someone from 15m ... it happened all night just like it has for the last decade-plus, and just like it has with every coach we've had since pagan.

too many passengers not rolling up their sleeves and leaving the work for others – Gibbs, Daisy, White, Armfield, Mcgreadie ... list goes on. Cripps was plodding last night. no penetration with his kicks, not getting a chance to put his head over it because he struggled to get to the contest all night.

positives are we have some excellent kids, most of which are still teenagers. pickett & marchbank were good pickups. althugh marchbank's kicking is a question mark.

Richmond up forward reminded me of us when we had the 3 amigos running around setanta. just tackling pressure and harrassment for 4 quarters. it wears other teams down. if they continue to get service thru their mids, they'll be a good team this year.

the faster game around the new 10m rule, really suits them.

I don't care if we have pick 113. No more talls.

Cunningham, Poulsen, Fisher and Lebois up forward developing in the VFL should fix this in time.

Good luck picking quality midfielders at pick 113.

I wouldn't be too excited if I was a Tigers supporter (except re Martin who was awesome and looks in great physical shape & also Prestia who looks like he belongs already).

Saw a few bits and pieces for us but I do worry about Rowe, White and Thomas who obviously will need to be replaced before we can be consistently competitive.
Wright was also a bit dodgy but at least he did some good things to somewhat balance out the bad things.

Good for us:
- Murphy was fantastic
- Kruezer was very good
- Weitering again showed how classy he is (but I still see him as a long term backman)
- Marchbank looks like he will be great (fantastic defensive KP stocks = Weitering, Marchbank, supported by Docherty & Plowman is a solid defensive core)
- SPS - Didn't dominate by any means by geez when he got the ball he looked like C Rioli when he first started in terms of his movements, balance, vision.

Not great:
- Cripps still warming into it. Hope that is the case rather than his back limiting him to this level all year
- White, Rowe - sometimes get the ball well (strong mark, running to good spot) but then stuff it up with a poor decision or terrible execution
- Thomas - not bad once he gets the ball but just doesn't do it often enough or at important contests enough
