Today I attended a talk by Ken Sheldon, number five for our Carlton Blues, when our on ballers and small forwards were known as the 'mosquito fleet'. (where that name comes from I do not know), but those bursts in the third quarter were legendary.

Ken was looking as fit as when he played and gave a great talk about the need for more younger players to come through our list, as well as how our club's culture used to be back in the champagne era of premierships in the 70's and eighties..

In presence at the talk were five carlton great - Geoff Southby 20, Percy Jones 28, David 'SWAN' McKay 43, Jimmy Buckley 16 and our indigenous great Syd Jackson 5. All of whom I had the pleasure to speak to.

As an elder Uncle Syd Jackson has agreed to read my film on our Indigenous Aboriginal people and those of us who care for our Indigenous Aboriginal people.

If anyone can make it tot talk at Percy by a footballing great it is well worth the effort for only $35.

If anyone has any questions regarding today's luncheon I would be most willing to answer.

79V.

How did you know it was on? Is this a regular thing? Totally missed any promo.
Happy to sneak down if I can, but these days it needs to be slotted into my diary in advance otherwise I have no hope of remembering :(

Ken is one of the better blokes you will ever meet. Chip off the old block.

bBillc3 the luncheons with past famous football identity's are held of a friday lunch. On Friday 31st of March Kevin Sheedy is the guest speaker, I know he's not a Carlton legend but I have had the pleasure of meeting Kevin Sheedy and he is a fascinating speaker.

As far as advertising goes it's a sign on the door of Percy's Pub - The North Fitzroy Arms - you can give the pub a call on 94864501. Hope to see you there.

At this stage Syd Jackson is not a speaker, but he was enjoying the company and catching up with old friends.

robertbb my film is about aboriginal culture following the journey of Iluka a young girl, it is a feature, I'm currently arranging a team of Indigenous Aboriginal and multi-cultural writers to write the final draft, as a whitefella there are things I cant write about - at this stage 'Our Progressive Corroboree - Our Meeting Place' is still on paper but not yet on celluloid.! :thanks:

This sounds awesome. I have an interest in this stuff - if you can remember, would love to get a PM (or see a thread) on it so I can check it out :-)

Yep, and I think you will find Percy Jones will take the credit for it.
Even now, his Dad refers to him as ''Bom'', his nieces and nephews, ''Uncle Bom''.
