I am so excited and worried.

Don't think we can win the game but I want to see some spark and some toughness.

Why can't we win?

We're not that good, but why is Richmond being pumped up so much?

I think we'll see similar to round 1 last season, hopefully we take our chances this time.

Round 1 AFL teams: Carlton expected to debut Sam Petrevski-Seton and Harrison Macreadie

CARLTON is expected to blood two debutants for its season-opening clash with Richmond on Thursday night, with Sam Petrevski-Seton and surprise inclusion Harrison Macreadie set to line up for the Blues.

The pair are likely to be joined by all four of the club’s off-season recruits, with Caleb Marchbank, Jarrod Pickett, Billie Smedts and Rhys Palmer also primed to feature.

Classy midfielder Petrevski-Seton was the club’s first selection at last year’s national draft at Pick 6, while defender Macreadie was claimed with Pick 47.

Petrevski-Seton has proved his fitness after injuring his quad in February and, despite not playing any of the side’s pre-season fixtures, will likely make his debut after impressing the coaching staff in a secret intra-club match held over the weekend.

Given the above it seems that (hopefully) people will get their wishes and not see Daisy and White on the teamsheet.

That will be awesome. But it is in fact three debutants when you include Pickett.

Hard to see White getting a game if Macreadie debuts. I'd been thinking White may play a shutdown role on Rance while Weitering plays back but maybe not now.

Yep that annoyed me.

Marchbank is seen as a flanker/back pocket more so than a key position player and Plowman is more of a 3rd tall so basically they are saying that Weitering will play forward.

Plowman Rowe Marchbank
Docherty Macreadie Simpson

A forward line of

Pickett Weitering Wright
Silvagni Casboult SPS

Palmer on the bench.

Looks about right going by that article, the only problem is Richmond play a fairly short forward line with usually only two talls up there. We could be shown up for speed, especially if we push high up the ground like we were doing last year.

Good call.

You would expect players to move around though. Plowman and Marchbank can play on smaller types or at least that's what the club will be thinking.

Just to kick off the season...
Great clip from Geno Auriemma about teaching the players how to think for themselves in the heat of battle... I reckon this is where Bolton is coming from too (the first 40secs is the crux of it, the rest if you have 5mins...)

If they play a lot of youngsters it will be in line with the PR emanating from the club all summer, that 2017 might not be a fruitful year in terms of wins and losses. That is all fine with me, as I am a believer if you are rebuilding you have to get games into your youth as soon as possible, and in particular if you have elite prospects they should play. Looks like Macreadie, Pickett, Marchbank and Petrevski-Seton are viewed as elite young prospects.

Short and sharp session today with a squad of 27 players trading. Good voice and got a sense they are in serious mode.

Didn't see LeBois and SPS looks sharp, confident, silky and ready to play. Mac readied had a grin and was like a jumping bean so maybe he's in contention.

Kicking to goal was good from everywhere and Charlie was snapping accurately from outside 50. He's a freak. Talked to him and he's so lay back and not worried about tomorrow whatsoever.

SOJ kicking was average and he was smiling a fair bit. Hope he sharpens up.

Training was just a loosened so nothing else to take from training but couldn't help admire the skills of Pickett who I thought was LeBois early in the piece.

First time I've actually stood next to Marchbank and Plowman who were right next to Rowe. No doubt they have the size for KP, and they are so athletic. I saw a resemblance with SOS when he was young but faster. Max readied is as tall but more HBF size or 3rd tall. He moves well too. Rowe has more size for one on one contests against gorillas but with the speed our big boys seem to have it looks like team defence could be a way to go against gorillas. A bit risky if opposing coach tries to isolate a Marchbank against Hawkins, but Tigers don't have a Hawkins...but they will rest Nankervis forward no doubt.

I think we will pick a quicker team than last time we met. Palmer and Smedts looked good with their snaps to goal, but who knows what they do in game pressure.

Pickett.

Didn't see Cunners or fisher nor Sumner and White was a bit serious even when all the players went over to sign autographs.

Couldn't help myself, and dropped another k in the shop. It's my sons birthday tomorrow and he wants nothin but his namesake....Carlton.

Come on Carlton, do it for Carlton.

I hop we win. If we go harder for longer and close the oppositions space we can win this.

The speedy Castagna has been upgraded for Richmond as well. A big concern is when players like Grigg, Morris, Conca and Hunt look for Riewoldt like they do 99% of the time with their kicking skills it's bound to go flying 50 metres above his head. If we have four talls in the back line we might get burnt off by Rioli, Edwards, Butler and Castagna.

In all seriousness though, it's Richmond. Apply relentless pressure to them, they go to pieces and so does Hardwick's hopeless game plan. Let them off the leash a bit and they have a lot of players that can cut you to shreds. They are capable of imploding or beating anyone in the league.

Coach says 5 or 6 youngsters aged 19-20 to maybe play.

Marchbank
Pickett
Weitering
Silvagni
Petrevski-Seton
Macreadie
Curnow

That's seven.
So if it is 6 one misses out.
Given the talk about Macreadie being in I am assuming Petrevski-Seton won't play unless 5-6 becomes 7.
