Given the amount of R1 draft pick quality on the list now and the solid defence that was developed this season, I'd expect around 10 wins if we have a good run with injuries.
I don't think that's unreasonable.

Thoughts...?

Agree.

As odd as it sounds, I think we'll show further improvement, but finish lower on the ladder. I hate to say it, but I expect we'll be fighting Brisbane to avoid the spoon, with the other "bottom" teams from 2016 all improving more than us (drug cheats, Freo, GC).

I expect Cripps to continue to carry our midfield much earlier/more than he should, which will either make him elite or burn him out. I hope that Gibbs doesn't drop his bundle, and that Murph gets a full season.

Our backline will continue to gel and be our strong point, but like 2016 their workload will take its toll in the end. Weitering may not have it all his own way now that teams know what he's capable of, but he'll fight through it and mature further. I anticipate that Marchbank will show some very good signs, but would be surprised if he plays a full season. In fact (with the possible exception of Palmer) I don't expect any of our new acquisitions to play a full season. Docherty's leadership back here will develop further and I wouldn't be surprised if captaincy looms for 2018.

Forward line will continue to be an issue, but we will see signs for the future. I expect Curnow (barring injury) to play a full season and provide some moments of excitement (maybe even a RS nom), and for McKay to play half the year but to take a bit of time to adjust. Levi will continue to be our main go-to, and frustrate the shit out of us in the process. I don't expect to see Jones play a senior game, with Jaksch maybe getting one last chance to prove himself. I expect Jack to be our leading goalkicker next year.

For other teams I expect that Collingwood and Richmond will drop down the ladder (Port could go either way), and that last year's top 8 teams will remain, except for one of St Kilda/Melbourne replacing Norf.

This all sounds like doom and gloom, and maybe it is. But despite all of this I expect that we will see the group take another step and there will be enough signs to show we're on the right path. Our selections in this draft will also be crucial to see how well these pieces of the puzzle continue to fill. It's just going to be a bumpy, slippery road, and IMO what we achieved in the middle of 2016 may inflate our expectations. But come this time next year the last of the deadwood will be gone, we'll likely have a very high pool of draft picks, and the final remnants of the Malthouse era will be gone.

Well written Don.

This is IMHO.

Defence has improved. Marchbank if he can stay on field will improve dramatically. Yes.

Mid field has improved (assuming Murphy & Smedts & Boekurst can stay fit and Cuningham & Pickett come along). Yes.

Forwards have improved with SOJ and Curnow C getting games from this year. Smedts and Pickett can play here as well. Tick.

Ruck. No.

Depending on injuries 7 - 11 position. So lower possie in the 8 not out of the question.

At one point this year we won six out of seven.

Our list will be better next year. Tuohy is probably the only immediate loss and we regain Murphy and a whole bunch of new recruits and lose a bunch of players that were providing nothing much.

Add to that a coach entering his second year who has a better sense of his players' strengths and weaknesses along with the fact that we're finally on an upswing whilst there are other clubs who are heading in the opposite direction.

Really not sure how that equates to bottom two.

Ball movement.

Nailed the team defense last year, now get them moving the ball like the Hawks.

What do I expect ? When the senior players return for pre season, I expect (hope) Bryce Gibbs to say something along the lines of '' As a professional footballer I signed a 5year contract with CFC. I have every intention of fulfilling that COMMITMENT''.

Ofcourse the problem with this is, expectation and hope are 2 very different things.

I have to agree. We'll overtake Tigers this year.

Finish around 10th -11th I reckon.

Probably lose a couple we should win and win 1 or 2 we should lose. Overall I reckon our list is looking better than 2016.

Not expecting a lot from Harry in 2017. Just hope he doesn't get injured and has a good VFL season. Reckon we will start to get results from 2018 onwards from him.

I expected Hillary to win because she was the obvious winner.
Given Trump got elected it proves that the media and average punters have got no idea of the landscape they comment on.
Perhaps the same with AFL. Remember last year some thought we'd get 1 win....maybe....against Essendon*.

Carlton will trump Richmond Essendon* Collingwood for wins.
WE will have all 4 of our 2015 draftees playing together at times, along with at least 2 from this year.
Carlton will be a new look team if Marchbank Pickett Smedts and Palmer stand up too.

Carlton for finals.
