The Blues will look to pass on Geelong's future first round pick to GWS for Caleb Marchbank in a standalone trade that means they will not need to wait on receiving pick 13 from Adelaide for Bryce Gibbs in order to do the deal.

The Blues and Crows were in a stalemate over Gibbs with Carlton insisting on two first round picks for the player who has three years to run on his contract. Carlton indicated last night it was more likely that Gibbs would remain at Princes Park.

Carlton will trade picks 45 and 55 for Jarrod Pickett and the Giants' pick 58. Pickett was pick 4 in the 2014 draft but has not played a senior AFL game at the Giants in two seasons.

If this is how it went down (including Gibbs), it would leave us with 5 (Taranto/Brodie/AInsworth/Petrevski-Seton), 13 (Florent/Powell-Pepper/Drew), 25 (Berry/Venables/Gallucci) and 55 this year. Add Marchbank, Pickett, Smedts and any other steak knives that might come our way.
Good point. We get Murphy, Curnow and Silvagni, none of whom we had last year. Maybe Mackay. Anyway, it's all nugatory now.

Next year you'd also expect we'll have (minimum, and taking Academy/FS into account) 3, 18, 22 as a starting point.

Would this be a win?

I would hope to improve slightly on this year's result, although there has been some hectic stuff happening below us.

I would hope to finish 11-13, which would give us a first pick of 7. By the time GWS and GCS jump over us with academy picks again, that will be around selection 9.

I think the bottom of the ladder will be interesting next year. No standout wooden spoon for example.

I am not sure how you expect us to improve on this years result without Gibbs. Our depth in the midfield is shallow and that will not imrove in the short term so without him we will struggle.

So far we have lost 6 players from primary list, Smith, Dick, Foster, Jamison, 1AW and Tuohy

Vs

Possible 10 inclusions being 4 new players Marchbank, Palmer, Pickett and Smedt plus picks 5, 25, 48, 63, 66 & 70

So that is possibly another 4 delistings without any rookie upgrades.

Who goes?

By my reckoning, those in limbo are...

Graham
Whiley
Rowe
Everitt
DVR
Tutt
Buckley

I think Buckley Everitt and Rowe would be retained, but who knows...

Actually I think Rowe played enough games to trigger another year anyway...?

Without scooping you Rexy

Rowe did reach triggers and has a contract for next year on that basis

I would have thought Everitt is a certainty to go. Not because of talent levels. But he's off contract. And clearly the MC had lost patience by the end of the year with his willingness to commit to team football. I would think Tutt would be next to go. Then probably DVR. I think Jones is a fair chance of being delisted (even with a year to go on his contract). So that makes 4.

But I agree that Whiley and Graham are in the gun. Although with our thin midfield stocks, they've got a better chance of staying.

I think Rowe and Buckley would be safe.

Gorringe, Jaksch and Boekhorst would probably be the next group at risk. (Love to see at least 2 of these really prove themselves next year.)

And then there's the senior group in Thomas, White, Armfield and Casboult, who may be on thin ice at the end of 2017. And Simmo and Wright won't go on forever either.

We've making considerable progress with out list. But it looks like we've still got a fair way to go.

Reckon we should get rid of all of them except Rowe and Buckley

Going by a quick Friday arvo count, I think we now have 19 first round draft picks on our list. GWS have 16 (I'm not counting underage recruits)

Surprised Buckley is still out of contract. He was good when fit this year.

I did too.

He's quick and ballsy.

I think he can mature and improve.

Just has to take some of the riskier stuff out of his game but that might be his bag which looks good when it comes off.

Keeper imo.

I think its between Everitt and Graham if we upgrade Sheehan.
I think if we do get a DFA, like Barlow its both gawn.

Question is if there's room in our 2016 TPP to delist contracted players for 2017 instead of uncontracted.

Ie is Everitt better than Gorringe or Jaksch or Jones or White or Rowe?

Agree ABNS, Not sure I can see anything different. Also add rookies Gowers and Sheehan (he has to be elevated? Can't see it)
Must say that the 66 game rebuild that many were poo pooing is very much on track. Potential wise, there's plenty. If I was a young coach or a discredited CEO trying to prove something, I couldn't have asked for a better set up so far.

This is an important consideration and will come into play. I wrote something similar in Everitt's thread regarding Gorringe.

The exception, IMO is Buckley who should get a one year deal, maybe with trigger options.

Other than sub standard recruiting and poor development
