Kezza,
I understand where you are coming from but, if we can land say pick 14 to 18, why would we not take it??
Otherwise he stays..
We need another first round pick..

What if we don't get a good pick for him? What if North do a Richmond and try to stitch us up during the trade period. He is out of contract so we don't hold all the aces, we might lose him for a pick in the 30's, will we all be happy then?
I am getting so sick of every year yet another decent player leaves our club, our player retention is pretty poor, worse than Brisbane's.

Agree Kezza trade has to be to our favour and really beneficial - I agree should have stuck it to the Tiges last year but y in the long run Tigers prevaricating last year did nothing for them - yarran didn't play a single game - might never play for them and Cunningham looks the goods - don't worry the tigers are in a world of pain and are ripe for the picking I reckon - hopefully we can stitch them up with a low ball Lennon trade - who from my mail hates them

You must know Lennon is that right? I know his family and they were not happy last year which is why I found it a bit strange that he did re-sign.
With out of contract players there is no guarantee that we will get the pick we want for Tuohy.
It would just be nice to have a year when players are lining up to sign new contracts and other players are wanting to come to us for reasons other than not getting games at their previous club.

Seriously though, are you denying that Casboult frequently takes too long to make a decision and then frequently misses targets with his short kicks? I mean, I know he only accumulates about 2 possessions a game so it's easy to miss, but my abiding memory of his play on the flanks is very much as mentioned.

Sorry for the delay but I have been busy traveling around checking out Mayan pyramids, cenotes and proper Mexican food, and other stuff you do when you are retired and living in paradise.

Yes

When the Marchbank deal goes through, I'm curious how we'll set up in defence next year, if all of Weitering, Plowman, Rowe and Marchbank are available. I wonder if Marchbank has the athleticism and flexibility to play on smaller forwards (like say a Dylan Grimes).

Flexibility of playing Weitering forward at times

Bingo!

...or Marchbank.

Wonder what happens if Jaksch (realising its make or break in 2017) has a break out year in defence?
You wouldn't think he's a chance given the addition of Marchbank to fill last spot for talls in backline, but I guess that depends on how quickly Marchbank recovers from shoulder.

...what role beckons for Glass-McAsker? Depth perhaps for when Rowe retires?

Glass-McAsker is the only one with real size about him once Rowe goes. Worth keeping to see how he goes.

As for the defensive set-up any one of Marchbank, Weitering or Rowe could be played forward, perhaps Rowe as a 2nd ruck if we don't want to play both Kreuzer and Phillips given neither gives much up forward.

With a few trades, pick 5 and potential improving players, my best "22".
Simpson Weitering Plowman
Docherty Marchbank Byrne
Cuningham Cripps Kerridge
SOJ Casboult Honeychurch
CCurnow Stewart McKay
Phillips Murphy Gibbs
Anyone from; Wright ECurnow Brodie (pick 5)
Sumner Lamb Kreuzer Pick 25ish for Tuohy.
Have left out Tuohy, reckon he will leave, if not straight into the squad, ahead of Lamb or Sumner.
In's; Marchbank, Stewart, pick 25ish for Tuohy and Honeychurch.
Out's; pick 23, pick 39 and Tuohy.

SOJ 191cm.
CCurnow 191cm.
Wow.....
According to most, both could play as mids...
Casboult, Stewart and McKay are the talls, with one ruckman also.
Outside speed with Cuningham and Honeychurch.
Marchbank and Weitering can rotate either end.
Still lack another two classy quick skilful mids..

Imagine that ... having enough talls to give us options!

At the riskof appearing glib, the dangers of posting best 22 teams six months from the start of the season are now self evident.

I'll assume the worst re trades and our list to post a potential best 22 for round one 2018...

Buckley Plowman Jaksch
Docherty Weitering Byrne
Cunningham Cripps Boakhurst
Kerridge C.Curnow Silvagni
Sumner McKay Taranto
Kreuzer Curnow Murphy

Int: Venables Lyon Murdoch Gallucci

66 game rebuild just became 88 or 110 games.

Get comfortable being uncomfortable.

I can see at least two messiahs in that group!

McArthy was one.

Ranting never even got a game with the Ants!
