Ok, the tributes for Gibbs are now done- Can we get on with trading him now?
Gibbs won't be traded so no point going down that path.
I've written a few posts regarding the benefits of trading Gibbs, and there are many compelling cases both for, and against.
The general consensus is:
- that we should trade him because he will not be playing productively when we are challenging. A fair draft pick for a player of his talent will likely produce a player that will be contributing when we are challenging. It will also give us time to develop that player at the same time as the core group that we are assembling over the next 2-3 drafts.
- that we shouldn't trade Gibbs because he is an elite player and a leader of the club. His absence will adversely effect the development of the current list, and throw young midfielders to the wolves too early in their careers.
While I think we should trade him, I see the arguments against it and they make sense. Either way is a win because both have their strengths and weaknesses. I think trading him is a little riskier but it's also bold and has much more upside.
Saying he won't be traded, however, (so there's no point going down the path) is a strange argument. Do you have a source? Inside information? Psychic abilities? or just don't think the club would do it? I'm just curious.
