Hopefully Tuohy stays loyal and gives back something to the club that has invested so much in him.

Given he'll be a delisted free agent soon enough that's unlikely.

If he does go I hope we get bloody good compensation!

What is that?

Nth won't give up their first pick, so it would only be a pick in the 30s.

I could imagine a three way deal with GWS involved.

GWS have picks 8 16 17 and two others in the 20s. They are a juggernaut. We need to somehow get pick 17 back from them and even one of those picks in the 20s.

Clear we won't give up much more than a 2nd rounder for March bank, so bringing Nth and Touhy in might work.

I love Touhy and would hate to see him go BUT we have to trade into the draft and Gibbs is untouchable.

I guess Gibbs has made himself untouchable this year, but we should listen to what Adelaide has to offer.

As I said earlier, I think anyone born in the 80s should be looked at for a trade, they will not be there when the whips are cracking and they will be at the peak of their value this and next year.

Touhy fits that criteria and in all honesty, his position is not that hard to fill

Think its more of a case of him being shopped as we don't have many players of value out of contract. Carlton haven't put a serious contract offer in front of him yet.
North gave up a first rounder for Anderson last year. Reckon we could very well convince them to give us one for Tuohy

Nah Nth have already stated that they are starting a re-build- they won't give up their first round pick.

Back to list management

we need to be very careful not to time our run for premiership glory too early. Everybody will be coming 2nd to GWS for the next 3-4 years. We should be timing our window for 2020 and beyond.

Hence we should not be concerned about who is playing well now and trying to load up with draft picks over the next 2 years.

We should be looking to improve our list for next year and then every year thereafter, not looking at off loading anyone we can gain picks for. The idea you can control what is going to happen 4 years from now is fanciful. Drafting as everyone knows is an inexact science with no guarantees, the draft and AFL fixture are comprimised adding further uncertainities and on top of that are the known unknowns of injuries and players leaving. Even if we are not going to win the premiership next year I want to go to games feeling we have a chance of winning, not hoping to win and it will all come good in 4-5 years.

I like the Turtle's idea better.

GWS will be a power house for more than the next 3-4 years. As they are losing players clubs are giving them early draft picks so the influx of top line players never stops. Add to this the obscenely generous concessions from the AFL in terms of the "academy" they will be unstoppable for many many years to come.

I agree, which is why everyone needs to get some of their draft picks from this year.... trade them for players that need to play in premierships in the next three years. Limit their supply of 18-19 year olds now.

So, I guess the next evolution in the game is pre-emptive defensive strategies off the field. Now we have the backs, forwards, mids, talls, and off-field defenders...
