we regather and move forward.

I dunno BG72. I never realised before that we've been shit for years and that this fact excludes me from being able to take any enjoyment until we're winning every week. But this thread has really opened my eyes!

Despite the loss and some questionable umpiring decisions I actually quite enjoyed the game.
It's been good to see the effort and endeavour back the last two weeks.
We made Sydney work hard which to be honest I didn't expect.

x2.

well crikey. blow me down with a kookaburra feather.
I'm so depressed now.
This is total crap.
that makes all that effort today a complete waste of time.
we still didn't win.

ok folks - I expect apologies not a banning :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

lol

I know where you are coming from MF and I acknowledge the "honourable losses" are the lower bar. BB gets it.

thanks - the club is in a dangerous position - yes the effort is there but we lose

when we won 6 on the trott this year - supporters at the ground were carrying on as if we won a Grand Final

i remember being a Carlton supporter for 30 years when as a supporter - we would expect to win and we do not accept any losses

I want to get back to that culture

20 years of failure is now rubbing off onto everyone as a culture of failure...

Had we won 6 on the trot I certainly would have been going on like we had won a GF

If you listen to the presser in full you will know BB's statement around honourable losses being a self fulfilling prophesy started with him saying we should recognise and encourage and enjoy the growth of individuals and the growth of the team. Sadly that's the part some of you seem to be skipping/forgetting. Maybe you aren't but you are so quick and strong with your opinion about a culture of failure that you are throwing a wet blanket on the enjoyment of the growth which BB says we should enjoy. You can be correct and still a negative focused killjoy. There are always positives and negatives and life sucks when you don't acknowledge both equally.

Bolton said to feel proud but not satisfied.

You're preoccupied with being dissatisfied and missing the other half of the equation.

Well said Crippa. Context has no place when some words on paper seem to support the point one is making.

But you know what? If people want to stay miserable and angry until we're holding #17 aloft, that's their prerogative. It's just that they're going to be miserable and angry for a LONG time to come. So I say good luck with that.

Buddy and the extra moneys in the swans salary cap was probably the difference.

Was watching the game thinking what a shitty spectacle this product of a game is. Playing against a team with a greater salary cap who signed the marquee player in the league, on a different sized ground where they structure their gameplay to, listening to douche commentators like Watson, that other Essendon* guy and basil, while the umpires pay crappy frees due to the over abundance of rule changes and different interpretations....just thinking that this league is crap.

Nothing to do with the blues and the fantastic effort they put in, very proud of the whole team.

But man what a sham of a league

What a difference a week makes when it comes to umpiring. Why wasn't that rushed behind paid against the swans....no difference to the one paid last week.

Simple, the umpires hate Carlton

First game at the SCG. Crowd felt so unnatural & manufactured. Only time they pay attention is when someone scores.

Great effort by the blues and the youngsters....but for pretty much the second consecutive year, carlton games are the only AFL I watch....so when I tune in I just find it more and more ridiculous the way the game is changing, and how much worse it is becoming, as I'm not being acclimated to it watching numerous games.

I don't care about any aspect of the sport anymore aside from Carlton. It's crap on so many levels it's exhausting to even think about ranting about it.

Pros:

Another excellent performance against good opposition.
Midfield group were outstanding against one of the best groups in the competition. Gibbs, Cripps and Curnow were outstanding. Encouraging performance from Graham.
Kreuzer's best game for a while.
Loved how dangerous Charlie looked in forward marking contests. With a bit more experience and strength and confidence could have taken 4-5 contested marks in the forward 50.
Goalkicking.
Weitering's 2nd half.
Thought Buckley had a good 1st half in midfield.

Cons:

Charlie's injury.

I agree. Wright's wasn't a free. He staged. I'm still not sure that Phillips' was a free. It looked like he was pushing back to bring his opponent to ground. I thought Kreuzer was a little unlucky, as it wasn't really a tackle even though he took the ball on the full at the ruck contest. Casboult may have been unlucky late in the game. But there was no replay, so who would know. And SOJ was a little lucky to get that free kick goal. But it was probably evened up earlier in the game when George Hewitt did the same thing.

To finish ahead on the free kick count at an interstate venue is a terrific result.

To have gone to the matches week in and out during the years the boys lost by 60 points would be considered a decent loss, today was a great result as the whole year has been when looked at in context.

We used to see the blues get thrashed regularly by 90 - 120 points remember. I certainly do, I was there.

Here there is the nucleus of a good team and game plan. So the team didn't win but it pushed one of the best sides to their limit on their home ground.

As has been said, bit of decent drafting and trading for another couple of years and
