Expected to get thrashed and in the end could have won this.
Great effort, just had that lapse in the 3rd quarter.
The usual players were good again today, Gibbs would have shut a few people up.
Disappointed yet proud.
Any news on Charlie?

Charlie was brilliant whilst on. While he didn't mark too many, the way he launches at the footy and drags opponents with him while doing so is exciting. Just imagine when he matures.

Still cannot believe the Philips (our best ruck at the moment), Wright and Casboult decisions in the last quarter. Some poise and luck and we would have done the unthinkable.

Our 1-1 defending continues to impress me.

I know where you are coming from MF and I acknowledge the "honourable losses" are the lower bar. BB gets it.

Ripping effort.

89 tackles - is that a club record?

thanks - the club is in a dangerous position - yes the effort is there but we lose

when we won 6 on the trott this year - supporters at the ground were carrying on as if we won a Grand Final

i remember being a Carlton supporter for 30 years when as a supporter - we would expect to win and we do not accept any losses

I want to get back to that culture

20 years of failure is now rubbing off onto everyone as a culture of failure...

I agree with what MF is getting at. I think Bolts expresses it better ;-)

As was mentioned earlier, Brendon Bolton is by far our best recruit. Key elements are changing.

Fair call ..... Nick might be walking a thin line, but he just needs more opportunities to improve his game.
And .... The Bokwurst has some serious talent hidden in there somewhere. I'm sure he just needs time to realize how good he is.

Loved today's effort.

10 tackles for Graham. 40 between him, Cripps, Gibbs and Curnow. 113 possession between the awesome foursome. You'd be nuts to break up that quartet. With Murphy missing Gibbs, Cripps, Curnow, Graham is it.

I hate losses of any description more than anyone, but I have to say that was relatively satisfying to watch.

Positives for me:

Boekhorst's chase on Richards? or whoever it was, was an outstanding thing to remember from this game. I absolutely loved that endeavour.

That and the intensive tackling and pressure demonstrates that with enough defensive pressure you can turn a game.

I was looking for leaders other than Gibbs, Simpson and Cripps and I saw it emphatically with Sam Docherty. He was prepared to run through the midfield/high risk - twice - to try and win the game. I really respected that.

Another positive was the steal that Cripps got in the 2nd quarter that set up a goal. Very clever.

Negative:
I really hate corralling type of defensive action. There was a time in the 2nd quarter when Weitering had the chance to attack a player that got the ball a second before him, but instead he went for the corralling option (ie protect the space) (as he didn't want to get run around). I would have liked to have seen an all out attack. The Swans got a chain of possessions that ended with a goal, but it could have been stopped if Weitering hammered/pressured the bloke.

Anyway, all in all, I never think of a loss as a good thing, but this one I wasn't depressed about.

If we were good enough they wouldn't matter.

Correct. That's the bigger picture. Midfield, hold your head up high.

Actually a second key forward to split the defence and take the pressure off Levi. That way he doesn't have o take the heat of the defence on his own. Also allows him to get up the ground more and take some grabs, which helps him no end, as well as taking a defender with him. We went 6 from 7 with two key forwards and hit the scoreboard, zero from 10 with one struggling to hit it.

I'd say the bigger picture is Sydney hang your head in shame. No chance against Hawthorn based on today's effort.

Despite the loss and some questionable umpiring decisions I actually quite enjoyed the game.
It's been good to see the effort and endeavour back the last two weeks.
We made Sydney work hard which to be honest I didn't expect.

Umpire... you pay a free kick if a ruckman takes possession in a ruck contest and gets tackled. you do not pay a free kick if an opposition player makes slight contact by just touching the back of the ruckmans jumper whilst he is kicking the ball. That is not a tackle. We are not playing the primary school tiggy tiggy touch. One of the worst 3 decisions of the day.
