sent this thought today under Talking Players (perhaps it should be here!)

Andrew Walker:

His performance this year suggests he is yet to regained the touch needed to be an effective forward, but I am sure he is trying hard

Recall that some seasons ago he held down centre half back okay.
Why not "really set him a task" and play him at CHB on Kennedy. Kennedy runs all day, but Walks prides himself on his fitness and should be able to run with him. Unless he is carrying a serious injury, I would be surprised if a game or two down back doesn't run him into form.

He should certainly see plenty of the ball at CHB playing West Coast.

Cheers adelaideblue

A few seasons ago I'd agree with you and worth a try but I think Walkers best footy was as a forward and father time might be catching up with him.

im not happy about wearing orange socks.

The social agenda train will kill football and carlton - as I have said its about the intention to make money with no assurances that money will flow - disguised as a social agenda

given that football by definition is brutal (and some say violent in its nature )- its inherently conflicted to the message that the orange socks purport to represent

we are the navy blues - but hey - im just a dumb member that buys a membership, has no opinion, blindly accepts our club's administration, conforms and is a consumer theatre goer :donk:

I approve.

It is no inherently in conflict - sport on a ground v. treating your partner with respect are fully aligned.

Good on the Club for working on our image, supporting awareness of a key issue and bringing itself in to the 21st century.

Next we'll be changing our jumper colour to promote some new flavour of chocolate.

Rather than socks, couldn't the players wear orange gloves?

AFL approved of course.

Our ability to get forward 50 entries is quite good but we have to find a balance to capitalise when we do. On the way to the game, I heard a stat that Carlton are only behind Hawthorn in turning opposition turnovers into forward 50 entries. A great indication of pressure and a well structured defence but we need to fix our ball use forward if centre or it will all count for very little. Other teams will be only too willing to let us win the ball behind centre if we give it back to them and they have an empty forward line to work into.

If we achieve nothing else this year, and that isn't the case, but if we do, I'm happy to have improved in something defensively.

When you're building a team, you start defensively. That's why we shouldn't move Simpson or Docherty midfield or Weitering forward.

That's also why I'm for building depth at the back and at full strength, there is some there (not much elsewhere though). And that is where Bolton starts and makes few changes due to "structure". Scores will be on the low end from here on in this year (forward line is our weakest point), but considering the fact I think Adelaide are a better side than West Coast and if we stick to the structure, there is no way we will lose by 100+ this week.

I have no drama with the wearing of orange socks since as this quote from Blueseum shows orange was our first distinguishing colour...

Quote:
Harry Chadwick was the club's first Captain, and therefore he has the distinction of being Carlton player No.1. *
He was the first in a long line of players to wear the club's colours, which in first year consisted solely of an orange cap.
In 1865 a blue band was added to the cap.
This was later changed in 1871 to a cap of dark blue.
A proposal in May 1866 to have the club colours altered to blue and white was temporarily shelved
