We need a new midfield made up of some super quick outside players to go with Cripps, Murphy when he is available and the Geelong version of Gibbs.

And someone above made a very good observation on the setup at stoppages. The centre bounces, which provided StK with a procession, especially in the 3rd quarter, should have forced us to put a defensive mid in place to stop Denis in particular, waltzing through the corridor into the F50. Poor coaching by the midfield coach. Used to be standard procedure, to have a setup for a winning ruck and another one for a losing one.

And the umpires need to be careful they are not allowing players to routinely use them as a screen.

Midfielders anyone?

Not like TC for personal agendas to derail threads...

The last two weeks without Murphy, only Cripps and Curnow get a pass mark imo

Our ruck stocks are poor and people are demanding Phillips return just so they can bag him again

One thing that has stood out for me this past fortnight is the lack of leadership shown by Gibbs, a stark contrast from the Geelong game. As one of the more experienced mids on our list he needs to step up every game to help cover the loss of our skipper.

I Think you are right about the loss of murph, and how that puts pressure on all the other midfielders who then in turn play at a lower level. So if we had another two elite midfielders we would increase the robustness and output of the midfield immeasurably.

I reckon we are ok if Phillips is co rucking..and charlie c and murph are back.
Lets see that...and then pick ip some guns in the draft.

I can only judge the centre bounce/stoppage setups from what I saw on the TV but along with others here I believe that:

1. Kreuzer hardly made an impact on the game and Gorringe made even less
2. no apparent change to the setup was made even though it was obvious we were getting smashed in the ruck
3. Gibbs was sitting on the outside (fine) but on the wrong side of the contest (less fine)
4. Cripps regularly going 3rd man up robbing us of our best midfielder at the fall of the ball
5. playing two ruckman reduces our midfield rotations - can understand we need a relief ruckman while Casboult is injured current setup hurts us
6. unless White is playing back he also robs us of a midfield rotation

We won the centre clearances by 1. The problem was the ones we lost resulted in goals to the opposition because they won them so cleanly.

Interesting.

So when we won it we couldn't clear it with the next possession, or we chose to go backwards and start our attack from HB or F. No wonder the Saints had so many I50 entries in the first. Ridiculous stat the I50's if we choose to take it there.

I'm sure that will happen BG72....but not next game.

What do we do with Kreuzer when Philips is rucking?

I personally think he plays forward, when not ruck roving around the ground, because he has to learn to do that, and the team has to learn to make that work too...otherwise...well it doesn't look good for an ageing Ruckman. If Kreuzer is a "one role' player ie first ruck only, and gets beaten, he's no good to the midfield.

this why we must keep our early draft picks and HOPEFULLY recruit more mids with pace strength .Feel sorry for nick.g and whiley to slow. Also how many games are won because of midfield dominance ,wce didnt score a goal from 15min of the 3rd quarter till final siren.

Gibbs: 0 tackles last week

When you are second to the contest - at least you could tackle...

1/3rd on our tackle count with 60 averaging 5 a game
Most of the list doesn't average 2 with some lucky to have 1 a game.

Dont know why people keep signaling him out his bad games are better than others good games

The reason people single him out because his good can be great, but his bad can be awful and doesn't impact the game.

His Geelong match was outstanding and showed he can be dominant in the centre.

But last weekend, when we needed experience and leadership, he gave us little - 0 tackles...way down on his average of 5 per game.
