No different to the Brisbane game, pole axed around the contest....difference being the aints wanted to go forward as quickly as possible, Brisbane just wanted to go backwards

We were a spent force coming into this week, and we did nothing to freshen things up from a personnel point of view, after clearly scrapping the bottom of the barrel in terms of managing the existing 22.

Endurance aside, pace was going to be a concern coming in and the easiest way to address that within our 22 was always going to be White. He got exposed today, and that's going to keep happening against sides with enough talent and structure to do so.

In terms of transitional/midfield play, we were too scared to take risks today because of the Saints' pressure, when the odd calculated risk would have simultaneously built trust amongst our players while wearing down their resolve.

Matty K's in the ruck when he probably needs a rest because there was no reliable next option. He should be fine after the bye, as should a host of other talls (particularly the forwards) who prior to this week stepped up their pressure efforts in lieu of midfield rotations.

All the spinning plates came crashing down today, but credit to the Saints for executing their plans. By round 15 we should have most of our list to pick from again and we can hopefully shake things up as needed with those reinforcements.

Kreuzer is no good when he shares the ruck duties, stars when he does it on his own most of the day. Been the same for a long time. Ruck/rover type ruckman that needs to stay on the ball. Hence rather one ruckman so we can bring other type of players in, like Jaksch and Silvagni, who continue to kick lots of goals in the VFL. Be nice to bring Phillips in, given his form, but not sure if it helps us overall if it hurts Krezuer's game.

Agreed with most of this but the glaring problem is that Kruez cannot jump.
Hickey absolutely smashed him at centre bounces.
Phillips can jump.
How we get around the issue of 2 rucks in the same side is for the MC to solve, but on today's game, Phillips needs to come in.

I'd like to see KJ in for Gorringe on today's effort.

Cripps was poor
Weitering was exposed for playing to loose.......hopefully he learns from that
I thought Simmo and Doc were great, and Lamb is a good footballer
Unfortunately Ed had a shocker in his 100th, but I still love him.

Yes 6/6 better than we thought but today was our worse game for the year
Reminds me of many of those Monday night games against Aints when we were favourites always started slowly and never in it
A depleted Aints side today we were listless unenthusiastic and paid the price
Need to get more forwards another marking one surely KJ or Silvagni must play
Midfield shocking and Rucks terrible how much space do you want to give Jack Stephen -how many goals did they get from centre clearances
No pressure no flow -very disappointing effort
When michington membrey weller are killing you things are bad
Need more young talent shocking games by most perhaps docherty and Simpson ok otherwise terrible
Byrne Armfield Curnow worse matches for the year
Fumbling and delivery into forward line horrendous

I think you'll find that Curnow copped a concussion that went unnoticed. Two hits in the first left him dazed

Today was the reality check we needed

This talk about finals and the media attention given to this club has been way over the top

We are still 6-8 players short and at least 2-3 years away

While our form has been good, let's keep a level head and realise we have much work in front of us

Let down game that was bound to happen
The Saints play better when the volt doesn't play
Reckon the rest comes at a good time
We do lack some leg speed but today we were smashed in the middle Spain's when they on are a vgood footy team who are umlivky not tobe higher up the ladder
Their worst is terrible but don't forget they should of beaten North and the Hawks

Was wondering if Walker was going to be managed to his 200th then "retired" like Jamison was when he reached 150 but the three goals may have bought him a bit of breathing space.

i don't mind that we lost, just wish it wasn't to a st kilda team that we're better than ... but it's the way we lost that gets to me. it was way too reminiscent of the way we lost under malthouse.

no one going when they're number was called. 11 players combined for 7 tackles. no pursuit or hunger, guys not playing for each other and guys giving up all over the ground.

did the cats game post-media mong out go to our heads?

He was trounced today. Simple as that.
his main opponent got 32 hitouts, 14 to advantage.
Now I know you think hitouts to advantage aren't a real stat but when they translate to easy inside 50's and goals you should start believing in them.

Here is the reality.

Kreuzer might be the spirit of Carlton but he is NOT a tap ruckman and when the opposition is cutting your midfield to ribbons because you're being beaten convincingly in the ruck, being good at hustling, pushing, shoving and the rest of the things he does well is not enough. Gorringe dod not fire a shot in anger in the ruck today either, whereas the forst gamer from STK had a few touches and bobbed up for a goal. Gorringe is better at being a forward but he is no ruck or relieving ruck.

Kreuzer did not take one mark today. he had two frees where he was pushed under the ball.

Phillips was BOG in the twos yesterday so he must come in but for whom? He IS a tap ruckman, albeit not the best in the comp by a long shot. Gorringe will have to go for Phillips, I imagine but that means we still have Kreuzer as th #1 ruck and that is a worry.

If we know we are going to get beaten in the hitouts most weeks, we eed to set up the midfield for a losing ruck, which means we need to set up someone goal side of say, Stephens so he doesn't just waltz through the square, across the F50 and have 14 score involvements.

We all love Kreuzer but a tap ruckman he is not. We need to re-invent him as a ruck rover or a slow midfielder and let Phillips take the bounces.
