My take as we approach mid-season:

Promote: Byrne, Sheehan
Delist (senior): Tutt, Dick, Whiley, Smith
Delist (rookie): Wood, Gallucci

Retirement options (most likely to least likely): Jamison, Walker, Armfield, Simpson
Trade options (most expendable to least expendable): White, Graham, Everitt, Casboult

Possible further delistings: Jones, Rowe, Wright

As of right now, we have too many talls, and 4 picks in the first 3 round of the draft, which might still remain the case if the supposed Marchbank/Tomlinson trade goes through. Let's say it does, which then leaves us with the following positional targets, IMO:

Inside mid
Attacking mid
Balanced mid
Ruck
Key defender

With Marchbank and Tomlinson in the door, Jamison, White and Jones immediately become expendable, while Walker is very much subject to his form in the final 12 games of this season.

The Everitt and Casboult debate is arguably a case of one or the other, with a much stronger case for trading out Everitt given his arguably lesser versatility but sharper skill set in front of goal.

Graham's case for trade is simply a matter of what we can get for him. A pick in 25-45 range would be a worthwhile deal, ditto White in the 35-60 range.

The goal should be at least 6 or 7 picks in the top 60, subject to further trade and free agency options, with a heavy focus on drafting midfielders with stoppage ability or stoppage skill sets. A future inside mid to ultimately support and compliment Cripps should be high priority.

From there, we need more attacking players from midfield who are a genuine threat to score or feed the ball to the forwards; Lamb and Wright should be seen as short term measures in this regard.

Our higher priority in terms of talls is arguably a ruck to ultimately supplant Kreuzer, but if we secure a 197+ key defender with talent to burn, that opens up long term security and likely jettisons Rowe's place on the list.

If we retain two of Walker, Rowe, Everitt and Casboult, Jones is gone. Armfield is again subject to how we choose to draft; Simpson is subject to how his body feels at the end of the season (early signs are good).

In terms of senior/rookie balance, we should be looking to go for a 40/4 split this off-season to get ahead of the pack and make genuine investments in the youngsters we pick up. That leaves two Cat A rookie slots, but also two Cat B rookie slots (limit of one Irish Cat B).

Plenty of options for us to consider, but another good off-season could really tidy up our list, at which point we'll start to hold all the cards in terms of trading and free agency as we start to build a finals-contending list.

If anyone offers anything for Graham or White, I'd be very surprised.

I'm thinking at the lower end of the pick ranges I've suggested.

Nah, don't see it at all.

In this day and age it would be a DFA to the player or nothing - they just wouldn't ne targeted by other clubs.

We can threaten to re-sign them then.

We're not trading them because they can't make the 22, it's because their wants don't suit our needs.

That doesn't mean someone overpays though

As they're best used as senior depth, the teams interested probably aren't going to have the salary cap space to overpay them.

A pick they might not be looking to use is a small price to pay.

Maybe if you could trade for rookie picks?

Graham is handy depth and White is a good jack of all trades role player but can't see a club giving up anything for either of them

Also further to this list debate.

Casboult is a forward ruck or CHF, we would be silly to let him go now we have found his right role.

Everitt very good 3rd forward, only let him go if a club was going to offer overs

I did say as low as pick 40 and 60 respectively.

Again they would pick them as delisted free agents.

Only way they would get a pick is if another club was happy to pay the rest of their existing contract

My point is we wouldn't delist Graham unless we're improving our draft stocks, and White is contracted.

Kinda like how my point about Rowe is that we wouldn't delist him unless we brought in another 6'6" type defender.

I can't see any of the 3 going at seasons end. Graham the only possibility but probably not yet.

I'd take pick 45 and 60 for them for sure.

What happens if Whitey's game has finally clicked and he improves on that effort yesterday?

Premiership HBF?

Have to always take note that Bolts is in his head. Anything can happen.

It's also amazing how guys can lift when there is belief in the team and they begin to think anything is possible
