Thanks Wookie. I got off the plane last night and was pretty devastated to see the score. The fact there's only 3:30min of highlights is super disappointing. :(

Wookie stretched it to 3:30?

Another one was getting a lesson in taps to advantage. I know Jim says it is a made up stat but a look in the wash up at what a decent tap ruck can achieve is worth a lot. If Gorringe stays in next week, it can't be as a ruck, it has to be as a mobile tall forward, maybe relieving ruck at best. Rowe is needed in defence. So, Wood in.

Pretty sure that's Doc Sherrin.

It's a stat that we suck at.

The other Jim, not you, Jim.
If I am bagging you I usually use your full moniker.

Could be the Doc, though.

Not this Jim either. Never said it was a made up stat. I've always said I'd sacrifice a few taps for performance around the ground given usually only 25% of taps go to advantage. Often sides win the tapout count but lose the clearances. Hence my reasoning for using Casboult as a 2nd ruck rather than a genuine ruckman who doesn't do lot around the ground. Think that's been validated. How often does Sandilands dominate in the ruck only for Freo to be smacked in the clearance count. Get a good ruck though that can consistently hit to advantage though then they are really valuable.

Back to last night I think that taps to advantage percentage rose a few notches last night though and was reflected in the clearances. Goldstein smashed us thoroughly both in the ruck and around the ground. Wood would'v been better as even though he may have been beaten he would've given Goldstein alot more of a physical workout making it very hard to land his taps down the throat of his midfielders hence our clearance count would've been way better. Wed id well in the clearance count last year when Wood rucked even though he didn't always win the ruck tap count. Much better than when Warnock was in there and winning taps.

agree. not even in the ballpark of as bad.

the big problem, imo ... was too many people getting carried away at 4 wins in a row over really ordinary teams. hence the whole expectation lifted from bottom four side to possibly shoot for 8th.

we have some good players, playing committed, competitive footy in a top rate system by what could be an excellent coach for the next decade. we don't have a competitive best 22 with other top 8 tier teams, and we have zero depth at the club.

kreuzer rounds into form, and then gets dusted for a month plus. casboult provides a genuine target for our structure, then suffers an even worse fate. Cripps playing injured ... these are the kinds of things we won't overcome for another season or two at best.

we still have lots of potatoes at the club getting a game by default lack of depth, rather then talent or form or working hard.

You could almost smell the flogging we copped coming.
Puff pieces all over the media, Bolton being touted as coach of the year.
Players and club started to believe all the bullchite and gotted rolled accordingly.
Despites Norths 9 -0 start I have my doubts about them.
I could be proven wrong this week when they play the Swans.
If they touch up the Swans I will accept we were beaten by a competition power house .
But if the Swans give it to him I would say it was everyone getting ahead of themselves

Pretty sure it's your hardline views on who shouldn't survive list culls that draws that out of Cazz.

Most of the blokes who are in the 22 right now but probably aren't quite good enough to populate a top 4 team's 22, would still make for great depth in those same sides.

It wasn't a case of us getting ahead of ourselves at all. Bolton would ve made sure of that.
Has been playing down the wins every week since our first win against Freo.
The 6 days break after a very physical and highly emotional game against Port didn't help, along with the fact we were forced to go into the game against the leagues best ruckman with our best two ruck options out injured.
The Club knows where we re at. Trigg quoted in the paper last week saying we re sticking to our rebuild plan, despite the unexpected winning streak says it all.

Agree SB, plenty of puff pieces in the media last week. Don't know if they were getting ahead of themselves. I for one was delighted to read something positive about the blues for once!

Surprised about your second point, then again perhaps you come from a place of knowledge. Players and club getting ahead of themselves. Seems to be at odds with everything I see and read publicly. What have you got that suggests they were in la la land?

Whereas you could almost smell a flogging, I could definitely smell a defeat coming. Likened to an end of Summer surprise burst of weather, followed by that sweet smell of rain.

What we got was a pasting. Sure we could have done at the centre clearances ( as cripps admitted more shoulder to shoulder with their opponents).....however, we were down our three best talls when up against an undefeated team that has a dominant ruckman.

Look forward to learning more about your source of truth re the club's mis guided self belief.

We put on a taller side on the paddock than North .
North were get able they were fading in 2nd half of games.
Coming off 4 in a row with a lot of momentum and renewed confidence this game was there if they wanted it. They came out all guns blazing like they have in the 1st quarter every week.
We didn't seem prepared for it.
In saying that North could be the guns of the comp.
But I am not convinced that they are.
We are not a young side like most people think we are.
We have a group of players who have been poorly coached for the last 3 years and they are conditioned to losing. Boltons biggest task is to convince this playing group they can beat anyone at anytime.
It was old carlton on Saturday night and was disappointing

The media experts I've heard, say North played four quarter football at a high standard the first time this year.

I wouldn't call it old Carlton. We would've lost by 100+

To be honest after watching them come off after the Port game the players were emotionally drained and totally spent. They'd given it their all. It wouldn't mattered who we played on Saturday night it wasn't going to end well.

Interesting that North beat us in the '99 GF after we beat Essendon* in that famous Prelim ...... again we were totally spent
