Jaksch clearly doesn't fit the Bolton mold ...at the moment

I really want Jaksch to get a call up. I still think he can justify the trade. He is not a ruckman or relieving ruckman though, which makes it hard to bring him in as a direct replacement for our injured ruckman or relieving ruckman.
He could've come in for Jamison and played in defense, but I've been hoping Jaksch would get settled in one position for a while now, so I'm not sure I would've liked him being thrust into a defensive role in the AFL after predominantly playing forward in the VFL.

Jones is probably keeping KJ out of the side at the moment.

Agreed. And Jones earned that right with his early VFL form. I think it's likely that Jaksch forces his way in by the back half of the season though.

Really disappointed with the Jaksch non-selection.
White picked before him is depressing enough but to see Jones & Everitt get games as well while he is languishing in the VFL is just pure Maltouse stubbornness. Very disappointing, especially when we continuously see others apply team ethos when and as they please, yet Jaksch has been named in the best for weeks. Extremely disappointed.

Named in the best when you are losing by 100 doesn't tell you much

I've been wondering the same thing.
Not looking good for him.

For some strange reason I trust our current coach and his sidekicks when they select the team. Unlike past years

He's obviously not consistently showing what the coaches are asking of him. If he was he would be selected. Nothing wrong with that.

Finally having some standards to get a senior gig and people are saying it's the coaches fault. It's up to the player to earn his spot

Let's be honest, none of us know what is being asked of KJ or the reasons for him being overlooked. It's very hard to judge the MC when we only have assumptions. So far, I'd back the MC that if he's being left out, it's justified and the right thing to do. I don't think it's a case of his papers being stamped as much as it is that they are trying to get the best out of him

Does anyone else look at that North line-up and think that, with Farren Ray and Robin nahas, in their side, they cant be that good? I know 8-0 is a pretty good indicator that they are a reasonable side.

I still don't think we'll win this, but there's something about the Roos line up that suggests they're too tall, too old and too slow. Exploit that and we might be in with a shot.

Biggest test yet for the new 'Team Defense'.

So glad the 'Weiters' is back. :thanks: :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

Probably wrong but I'm thinking Rowe will play the Casboult forward ruck role and Gotringe will be the first ruck.
Weiters Plow White to share Brown Waite Petrie. Going to heed heaps of midfield pressure to give our defenders a chance.

I understand Gorringe needs some help in the ruck, but taking out our number 1 defender for ruck duties when you're up against a three pronged forward line like North has just doesn't make sense to me. Rowe needs to play on one of their talls, otherwise they'll run riot.

Caz, can you shed some light on how Jaksch is going? You would have thought with Casboult missing he would be primed for a spot up forward this week.

I would start with Rowe down back ... Weitering up forward ... just to see how he goes. Switch them if its not working.

We are going to get smashed in the ruck so we just need whoever is around to compete ... our midfielders should rove to North.

Wouldn't be surprised if there's one or two late changes for us.

I always get the impression that Goldstein has a face that looks like it's been stung by a bee.

I know. I'm saying he can't take the defensive 50 stoppages if he's playing as a defender.

Fair enough; I reckon he can, simply because most of those stoppages are so close to goal you're not going to see leads from the key forwards.

Certainly within 40 m of goal it's not going to make that much of a difference, while it might wear down Goldstein.

Like Bolton suggested, there is room for being creative.

I don't like Rowe rucking and defending in the backline because Rowe usually mans the "gorilla" of the opposition, and imo regardless of how we are zoning in defense, if a small Carlton player tries to defend a gorilla, I would put money on the gorilla to free his hands, or maybe shrug his hips and gets a free disposal, let alone possession. These big boys need to be manned up at all times. They will always look for a mismatch if not guarded like for like.

How does someone simultaneously take a ruck contest and man a dangerous key forward?
